      With the 3 and 4 blade do you notice more drag if you chop power and decend?

      @randybarnhill3098 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey Tucker
      It has been scientifically proven that three bladed props are the most efficient propellers to use. Even more so than four bladed props. Blade radius or circumference doesn't matter, neither does pitch or AOA. It just seems to be one of those strange aerodynamic anomalies.
      Your climb rate numbers are clear evidence of this.

    • @TuckerGott
      @TuckerGott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@randybarnhill3098 Interesting! Do you have any links to this research? I would think that pitch and diameter would have an influence but the 3 blade definitely feels most efficient.

      @@NathanBiskop It's really cool, I flew a lot in tandem already! There was one time where my instructor gave me the controls and told me to land on the beach! I have no words to explain how awesome that was!
      My advice for you is to find a good instructor, search for feedback on that instructor/school, good training is really really important.
      I friend of a friend got injured very bad because of bad training, he was taking the trike license and did his first flight with only 2 days of training!! this is crazy (and illegal in my country), my instructor usually takes like ~1month (depending on how fast you learn) before he allows you to fly solo on a trike.
      On takeoff, he was not able to control the wing and crashed, luckily he survived.
      When searching for an instructor, try to find advice from people in your area, usually, pilots know which schools are good.
      When you start your training, don't rush things, first, you will need to master ground control with and without the engine, when you feel confident enough with ground handling your instructor will see that and you will start to train takeoffs and landings.
      This is a safe sport but training is very important for the safety
      Also never forget to do the pre-flight checklist, some instructors (even good ones) don't enforce this enough.
      Honorable mention
      Never fly a wing without mastering ground handling first, even if you consider yourself an expert, because all wings behave differently

    LOL, Tucker ; ). I had to chuckle @ "If you're a reasonable pilot", cuz some of us have little choice but to fly in rocky, sandy, rough places (in the desert), where chipped, cracked, sand-blasted, and pitted props is a constant issue. I've begun to fly with "PPT" (paint protection tape) on my blades. For cars it's apparently great, that's not the same as a prop blade-tip spinning at near the speed of sound. We'll see how well it works over time.

    @billandrews 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The advantage of multi-blade props are increased mass and increased wing area.
    Increased mass means the blade is smoother, its grater mass lessens vibration because it absorbs more vibration.
    Increased wing area means more lift. Props are wings arranged vertically to produce horizontal lift and push you or pull you over the earth's surface rather than above the earth's surface like an airplane's wings.
    They work the same way though. More wing area means more lift, and so for props it means more thrust.
    The great thing about more thrust is you can run the engine at a slower rpm and still get the same thrust, saving fuel, and producing less engine vibration, AND lower engine temperatures.
    Those flying air-cooled 2-strokes rather than 4-stroke water-cooled engines don't think much about engine temperature, but the 4-stroke engines operate at a much lower temperature, which equals longer engine life, fewer repairs and rebuilds, plus MORE power.
    2-stroke engines that are run at the same power as 4-strokes burn themselves out quickly.
    If you look at general aviation, the only airplanes that fly with two blade props today, are the low-power civilian airplanes.
    The fastest, airplanes all have 4 or 5 blade props. The greater surface area of multi-blade props is needed to get the thrust needed to hit the greater speeds, as increasing the length of the blade causes cavitation at the blade tips, which slows you down.
    There is a limit to how long a prop-blade can be, so increasing the number of shorter prop-blades is the only solution to the need for greater thrust with a prop propelled airplane.

One of the airports & the seaplane base are on the New York sectional chart. At approximately the 5:00 minute mark the airport not on the sectional is just on the other side of the tree line to your left. At approximately the 16:00 minute mark the plane you see below is making a low approach to the airport that is on the sectional. Just thought I'd point this out so you & your friends are aware that there could be potential traffic taking off, landing or making a low approach at any one of these airports or seaplane base.

    The most likely reason for the additional vibration is because your body blocks the air flow to both blades at the same time every 1/2 revolution. On the 3 blade only one blade at a time is being blocked from the air flow, and the pulses (vibrations) come both lighter, and much more frequently. In perfectly clean air the two blade should be more efficient with very little difference in vibration.

    Commercial wind turbine engineers agree... the 3 blade design is the most practical for many reasons. The 2 blade designs moved the blades to quickly causing degradation, 4 blade is to expensive because each blade moves independently from each other they all require pitch motor assembly's etc..

    Those large hour glass towers at the power plant are for condensing steam that is used in the turbines so the water can be reused. They are primarily used on larger power plants (smaller power plants use other methods to condense steam). They are commonly associated with nuclear plants because nuclear plants need to be large to be economically viable.

    Wherever you get the shirts at, don't change it. I've been wearing the fly or die for a while and it's still soft. Great video. Keep it up.

    Tucker is right, I'm so use to people calling the cops or complaining about us that I don't really know how to react when someone acts nice around me. Any of you getting into this sport better get use to the constant complaints and cops being called on you.

    What would happen if you snagged the chase cam? Does it have a breakaway line?

    Tucker, That foot drag is awesome, but it looks like it could be potentially dangerous. If for some reason you biffed, you could lose your feet to the prop. (at least, it looks like your feet are pretty much that far back..) I know I saw a recount of someone who sliced the back of his heel from having a weird long stride on launch.

    Great video the three blade sounds good in flight. Question what is the weight and height limit on these things I’m 7 foot and 295 lb. I flew a paraplane a couple times and that was cool. This seems a whole other level.

      Weight is sort of irrelevant as there are tandem setups that can carry over 500 lbs. Most importantly, you need a big wing and secondarily, you need a big motor. Physical fitness is more important if your goal is to foot launch. 😊

    Less weight of the props means the engine works easier which has two more advantages. 1, less ware and tear on the engine and 2, better fuel efficiency. All arou, you get great advantages.

    where the heck is the talk about the giveaway?! I am EXCITED! if you just have a wing though, can you just kite it? like I haven't got the money to buy the kit or the training yet, but could I just kite for a while?

    I would like to see a video about the different props and their effect on climb rate at high altitude. I live at high altitude and this would interest me.

      If price is a big concern, check out the Akaso brand on Amazon. It's the brand I use to record when I ski. They have a lot of the same features as the name brands for less money. Don't go too cheap though or you start to give up important features like image stabilization. The first camera I got was like $20 and it worked fine when there wasn't a lot of movement, but got really shaky when I was skiing

    That three blade sounds like the motor is revving faster,so how is that affecting fuel consumption?I'm still surprised at that four blade format and would still be interested in seeing it reconfigured as a cruciform like those old WW1 bombers.You never know,it might work better that way............................

    • @TuckerGott
      @TuckerGott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the three blade revs any faster, it just sounds like it because of the frequency. Fuel consumption isn't noticeably different but I would suspect it is slightly better with the 3 blade.

    Two more cons for 3 blade vs 2 blade: Doesn’t fit in the hatchback or other compact places as well and it may stress motor bearings a little more. But, definitely seems smoother and more thrust.
