one of the great things about bladee's discography besides the music itself is how apparent it is to see him growing as a person. from the depths of depression and drug use to slowly finding what he believes in and a love for life.
Yeah I definitely can see that as someone who has been a fan of his for a while. Also his cover art and fashion sense is next level. He has a real sense for striking visuals and fashion. I think Spiderr is my favorite of all of his art
57 yr old Drainer here. I loved Crest and Spiderr the first time I heard them - such positive / hopeful music and such interesting / intricate production. I guess now I have to get my 82 yr old mom and 92 yr old dad to watch this video so they'll understand me.
37 here, drained for years now. What I love about bladee is, that it doesn't really fit into a certain mold. You can go through good times or heartbreaks, but still can relate to his music
For some context behind the silencer shots in NOTHINGG, those are a sample from a video game called Counter-Strike. The game's been referenced in his music before, and there are probably a lot of Bladee fans that've played the game at least once. I can see how it would come off as incongruent to someone who hasn't heard the sound before, but that gunshot sample is incredibly nostalgic for me (and I'm sure a good portion of Bladee's fanbase), which completely changes the feeling I got from its use in the song. It really transcends the sound of the gunshot and rather instills a feeling of adolescence and the freedom of responsibility of a 14-year-old playing video games with friends.
its the same reason why icarus 3reestyle became my favourite song from him, the ak and awp sample work so well and nothing can beat that feeling of nostalgia
I'm a "drainer over 30." It's just like you said, the first listen it was like "what is this?" Then I started reading the lyrics and it clicked. Hotel Breakfast and Trendy are the tracks that brought me into the music. Bladee is probably going to be my top listened to artist this year on Spotify.
Im 25 from Amsterdam and ive been listening to Draingang since 2015, their fanbase becoming so big and full of kids (12 to 16yo's) is like a double edged sword. one the one hand i want them to have all the success that they get, yet the concerts become more like a children's party compared to when i saw them for the first time on their 2017 tour. i love the fact that a lot of the kids are now getting interested in theology and philosophy tho hope they will read Dante alighieri's: 'The Divine Comedy' that bladee is shouting out on DiSASTER PRELUDE lol edit: ive been calling him blade-ee since forever too so dw HAHAH
feeling "some type of way" means like being emotionally out of balance. so he opens the album basically saying "to say im feeling really emotional right now would be an understatement"
i think the gun sound on nothingg could either be a nod to bladees past works, being a sound clip from the game 'csgo' which he also used to sample in his earlier work alot but also the fact that its a silenced gun sound could be a metaphor for the old style being 'silenced' or hes moving away from that. this idea is also kinda shown in 'understatement' where he mentions ' it couldve been that other stuff but it just wasnt us' that 'other stuff' being his old style of music and this new style being more 'them'. i really hope that makes sense.

As others have pointed out, bladees music used to be edgier with major themes of drug abuse and depression. Still I think the idea of the music as being nurturing fits just as much for his older “edgier” work as for this newer sound
I can honestly say Bladees music changed my life and resonated with me in a way that nothing has before. I listen to so many different genres and artists but the things he speaks about and the way its presented is just so out of the box and at the same time passionate, and the lyrics really hit me emotionally
at 22:27 when you seemed confused about what he means by "gravity", it is a reference to "Gravity Boys" which was an older name for Drain Gang. First they were Gravity Boys, or GTB, and then Gravity Boys Shield Gang, or GTBSG, before becoming Drain Gang but they still use the terms pretty interchangeably
I love your reviews of bladee so much, when i watch other reviews they just focus on the sound and some surface meaning of the lyrics but your way of diving into specific lyrics and the whole "persona" of bladee is so interesting. 333 would be interesting to see also since it is filled with mystical themes and imagery.

Surnames with the suffix 'Berg' are very common in Sweden and its not really possible to assume someone has a jewish background etc based on that. Idk if whitearmor(or bladee for that matter) is jewish or not but just worth pointing out. Great video as always tho👍

Would actually be so sick if you studied the reasons as to why bladee’s music becomes progressively better after each listen of the same song I can see you actually care about the content you make for sure needs more exposure
It's weird because they aren't weird, and don't understand weird. People are always going to be afraid of what they don't understand. It's the ones that can conquer that fear and confront it who become the greats of the world. One thing I've come to understand in my 25 years of life, is that you will never be able to force anyone into wanting to understand something. You can beat your head against the wall over and over again, you may be able to get them to understand why you like something, but you will never get them to actually put in the effort themselves to understand. That's the person's choice themselves, and unfortunately most people don't have the balls. Congratulations if you do, you're one of the very few. I've listened to bladee since I was 16 and I've never gotten anyone I know to enjoy their music except my little brother who happens to be a little weird just like me. Drain gang as a whole are my favorite artists in the world. And I listen to A LOT of music. And Honestly if you were to ask me: No I wouldn't say that it's plain and simply nurture. Maybe when I was younger, but it's actually the opposite, it has me face things I don't want to face. that is what people are afraid of. As someone's who done psychedelics and confronted my own fears multiple times, it is a therapeutic but also just an existential exploration to ultimately understand our terrifying yet beautiful existence. That is why I listen to them. And no I'm not recommending psychedlics. I'm just stating my personal experience.
you really need to listen to eversince and perhaps the rip bladee ep as it showcases his darker sound and progression as an artist and really, a person.
@@sloandog I do drink water/go outside, but do you? You assumed I meant nobody should care about race in a hateful way, because you’ve been groomed by modern identity politics. im pretty sure that whenever bladee has a song that looks like a lovesong it's actually about his relationship to destiny and fate
at least post exeter
right i think he refers to his mental state alot and embodys it as another person, longing for the old him or a happier place

I think you should review bladee eversince it deals with some pretty dark themes depression, self harm etc it got me through some tough times
This is not a oxy, its a skittle

I’m a 30 year old bladee fan, first listened in 2014 and became a fan in 2015. I say blade-y too. It’s more fun to say

This Bladee album sounds like a palatable version of Semetary.
You seem to be under the impression that drainers aren’t also listening to chief Keef

d9 is the same as dg. the nine just looks like a g
one thing that’s interesting about drain gang is that 2 out of the 3 performers are POC
Who cares
@@yungpm you do not seem like someone who would watch this channel. go drink some water and look at nature
@@sloandog I do drink water/go outside, but do you? You assumed I meant nobody should care about race in a hateful way, because you’ve been groomed by modern identity politics. A system designed to put people into easy to break down stereotypes to dehumanize and eliminate any sort of humanity we would’ve had left. So please think before you speak every time you do, maybe you’d avoid misinterpretation more often.
@@yungpm instead of being so sure in your perspective go read some materialism and stop regurgitating right wing talking points
@@theotter6279 and what’s your argument to disprove me? “I think people should be judged for the content of their character and not the color of their skin” is a right wing talking point? okay cool I guess. But I’m not right wing. Nice try tho man.
Proffesor Skye, do you speak any other languages other than French and English?
I have an intermediate level of Spanish and I’m hoping to get better at Serbo-Croatian.

I'm uh between 45 and 55 and I was delighted by Bladee (et al.) from the first listen. My children aren't yet that bothered, though, maybe you could explain it to them instead?
(I don't really listen to words much though and almost all of this lecture is about Bladee's many texts; I may have listened at faster-than-real-time)
Adopt me 🤣

What a legend this man is, honestly hope to be this open minded and genuinely engaged with popular culture when I get into my 40’s.
