Bladee lyrics are like impressionist paintings. It blows my mind how he is able to loosely string together disparate imagery and create a world that the listener can dwell in. He is a master of Symbols

There's a movement in painting and poetry called Symbolism. Was active late 19th century France. Suits bladee's lyrics even more than impressionism; bladee himself posted a Symbolist painting before - St. George and the Dragon by Gustav Moreau.
The Symbolist painter you should check out though is Odilon Redon, most bladeesque.

@@pretty-white-lamb wow you're onto a creative thread here. Redon is definitely resonating. Identifiable subjects warped in a way where describing them reveals a surprisingly poetic description

Another thing to add is a story about King David and the Spider. A VERY abbreviated version of this story, David virtually asked Hashem (God in this story, HaShem meaning "The Name") why he created spiders, citing them as "such ugly and useless creatures". HaShem told David ‘be patient, a day will come when you will want to kiss one’. Later in the story, David had hid in a cave from King Saul, who wanted to kill him. As King Saul's men were nearing his cave, Hashem sent a spider. It spun a giant web over the entrance. When King Saul saw the unbroken web, he assumed no one had entered the cave and moved on. When David realised this, he found the spider and gave it a grateful kiss!
In this story, God was essentially teaching David that although it may not be obvious why each creature was created; everything that exists has a purpose. This is probably why Bladee named the album, especially since you were drawing connectiions to the idea of protection and Bladee's search for purpose !
    Sry this was long lol

100% you should make more vids like this, drain philosopher.
I’ve been interested in the lyrics for “Nothingg”, especially the part where Bladee says “solid star, tell me where you are.” He mentions that same idea of being solid in the lyrics for Icarus 3reestyle. Maybe has something to do with bringing the abstract concept of perfection into reality (making it solid)?
I’m also interested in the spider symbolism. Much like Bladee, spiders can be seen as misunderstood artists (intricate web weaving) that may come off as unpleasant initially but are actually quite helpful and necessary for maintaining balance in the ecosystem. Spiders also tend to be solitary like Bladee. There’s just so many layers to this…

    More connections:
    - Spiders have 8 legs, ties into idea of infinity with 8 being the same shape as the symbol infinite. Links up with the Jewish concept Ein Sof “Endless One” motif in lyrics. The album Good Luck has 8 letters in the title and has 8 tracks, connection?
    - The 8th track on the album (HAHAH) is a palindrome, much like the symbols for 8/infinite. Curiously enough (and possibly unintentional), the amount of songs is a palindrome with the length in minutes for the album (13 songs, 31 minutes)
    - Released September 30th, the last day of the 9th month. 9/30 can be seen as the sequence 9 -> 3 -> 0, ties into one of the album’s motifs of destruction/the ending of something (from Nothingg: “I can turn something into nothing at all.”) For drainers, 9 is seen as a very holy/transcendent number, like the top/crest of a mountain (Crest album has 9 tracks, seen as Bladee’s most blissful + heavenly record yet). Going from 9 to 3 (also important drain #) to 0 implies coming down from that heavenly “crest” into a possibly more profane state of mind/being…”nothing”.

The two triangles that form the star (consciousness) also stand for this . The triangle that points up in the ancient world was known as the blade and it represent the masculine(intelect , action, heart) .The triangle that points down in the ancient world symbolized the chalice and it represented the feminine (creativity , intuition, mind). In order to be a balanced individual u need both of these (to be balanced) thus the two triangles coming together creating the star .

I feel it could be an idea he has stuck with, selfless themes in his songs, “nail me to the cross.” The fact he’s stayed true to his fans and his art, “coulda been a lot of stuff but it just wasn’t us.” Seems like a charitable dude, also made me think of yeses where ecco says “drop everything off at the red cross” letting go of finite attachments

On botox lips he has the line "I am not a dreamer, I could be your teacher" and that prompted me to start doing tai chi in the mirror when listening to bladee and because it looked awkward I taught myself some more moves and eventually realized that I could now move and dance like Bladee. I've added more of my own moves since and now I make an effort to try get my other nerdy friends to dance with me when I play music because I feel like it's now my duty to teach.

great video ! aside from the spirituality stuff, i thought that the name 'spiderr' was supposed to be a metaphor for bladee now being at centrepoint of his career (the spider being bladee and his career being the web he has spun). this album is heavily self referential and self aware, to a greater extent than bladee's previous works, so the name spiderr works because it acknowledges how the album is enmeshed within its context. for example, the album repeatedly quotes old lyrics ('dreaming in a dream into dust', 'glue sure do get sticky', 'Cinderella only for one night' etc etc) and throughout, bladee seems to have a greater awareness about his fame/his journey thus far as a whole. this idea is maybe most true on drain story which literally says 'this drain story is about to reach my favourite part' and presented as a centripital video. i thought of it as a visual representation of bladee approaching the ‘eye of the storm’ of his career before the inevitable 'fall' he continually references. im prob just saying obvious shit and theres loads more to get into with the lyrics but idk, maybe other people were thinking this?

I just want to point something out about the Qabalah. It is a very interesting topic. What is really the driving force behind that interest is that it is not found in books. Qabalah is a direct form of divine revelation. To really engage in Qabalah you have to do it as an action. Some of that is bound up in the Hebrew language, but it's in all languages as well. One example from this video would be Ain or Ayn. It means something akin to "nothing" or "void". There is thought to be something called the Ayn Sof Aur or the Limitless Light beyond the Sephirot. Think something akin to space. That's one example of how words are used to that affect. I hope that helps a little. I've been into this for a while.

I'm not sure about how deep Bladee has gone into jewish kabbalism so take this with a grain of salt. But actually the "doing it for the Ain" probably shouldn't be mixed up with the Ain Soph which kinda are two different stages. If he just means the Ain/Ein, he's kinda saying that he's doing it for the Nothingness, which I think would have some interesting nihilistic connotations as well

This video is a really good way to step into the just endless Amounts of Kabbalistic teachings and Occult thoughts. He brings up Alastair Crowley religion’s thelema saying “To be the law, you must break the law” “let’s just love always love, and it’s the law” Alastair Crowley taught “love under will” “do what thou wilt” and that everyone is their own star and follows their own Will. (Destiny) through the actions they take. And you could totally go deeper and pick out the tarot references like how he says “I’m a fool for you” a magick practitioner sees themselves as the Fool card in tarot. The fool is taking a journey through the deck. Through the 4 words. And every tarot suite (cups wands swords and pentagrams ) represents their own tree of life (the Sefirot diagram) each with their own meaning. The tree being made up of 3 Trinitys. You could pick this album apart for days and just loose yourself in a rabbit whole. And you can do it for pretty much all his music lol I love it. He’s a magickian for sure

Points of interest I would like to add:
    1. There is a system which is popular in Jewish culture called Gematria which assignes a value to letter(A=1,B=2,C=3, etc..) some of the lyrics might have the same value when each letter in a word is summed up(for example: there is a famous expression in Hebrew that says "When wine enters, a secret comes out". The Hebrew word for "wine" has the same value as the Hebrew for "secret" which is 70).
    2. In the old testament, there's the idea that the Israelites are to act as mentors for spiritual and moral guidance for the entire world as suggested by Isaiah 42:6(I the LORD have called unto you in righteousness, and have taken hold of your hand, and submitted you as the people's covenant, as a light unto the nations). Perhaps there are connection between some of the lyrics and this idea.

    • @Dylan-it5vi
      @Dylan-it5vi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

there's three three's within the star of david for example. 3 in each triangle representatively. it's also worth noting the alchemical symbol for Air is an upwards pointing triangle and Water is a downwards one. Air and Water being something Bladee refences a lot

incredible vid, very fun. edit: i understand there's a lot of philosophical references in his work. i felt like it was almost just as much a breakup album. "The very thought of how you operate, I'm filled up with disgust," and, "Baby, you could kill me with a touch, flying too close to the sun," appear to be about an ex to me; that, and the dante's beatrice stuff...

@@NYYYank1 i like that idea. similar to that, i do think it's all supposed to be like a "choose your own adventure" mentality mixed with some righteous principles (we are both worthless and powerful, we should strive to be "perfect" but will never reach it, etc.). it is probably way less meta and layered than people think it is, but still has plenty to read from it.

As a Christian, the comparison Bladee makes between him and kind of a Messianic figure or at least a holy figure bothers me a bit, but I overall appreciate his search for truth and perfection and just the overall desire to become a better person - the contradictions he makes between being nothing special but also comparing himself to a holy figure to me is a reminder that he is human and really isn’t special but recognizes the beauty in putting pride to the side and trying to become the best person he can be - just a bit of my perspective as a Christian and an avid Bladee/Drain Gang fan - I feel that Bladee is getting closure to the core of his beliefs but the contradictions show he hasn’t reached the perfection he wants and is still on his spiritual journey - also perfection is just an illusion on this Earth like he said so maybe he recognizes this and just wants to throw in some flex bars for fun 😂
