In High School I chose an elective whereby for the school year all I had to do was to be in a special ed class. The teacher said just to be myself and observe and participate if I wanted to. He wanted his special ed students to observe me and my behavior as a regular mainstream student so that I can be a role model. It was a learning experience and I made a friend. I was not really sure why he was a special ed student because i never asked or judged but he did tell me he saw his dad committing suicide by using gun. Overtime i introduced him to my other friends, school activities, etc. We lost contact when I started college. My experience in that class was very positive. I learned that people can achieve things eventhough they have physical or mental challenges.
These kids are precious! Some of the comments on here are really making me mad! Don't call them that! They deserve to be treated the same as anybody else! They are smart in their own way! I love that they use adaptive tools like that folding board for their Work-Based Learning classes! I think everybody should learn about special needs kids because it teaches them empathy for other people! And it teaches appropriate behavior for the students! Plus it gives the kids a time to socialize and not feel trapped in the classroom! I also like the way that they have physical education in the morning so that they will be calm during the day! Blanco Pineda Aspergers is a form of high functioning autism. However with aspergers unlike most people with high functioning autism people with aspergers usually don’t have learning disabilities and usually develop things like speech normally.
Yes, I believe it is. Some schools like my old school provides ILS (independent living skills) and career exploration which both can vary in and out of a school.
TheAGcollector101 I’m a Gen Ed student who works with students with special needs in gym class, and I can wholeheartedly say I only regret not helping in classes sooner. All of the students are amazing and it’s really fun to get them motivated to move around and work on their coordination. A couple of the students I’ve been advised to stay away from because they tend to get physical when they’re disregulated, but when they’re feeling better I try to get a little more involved with them. I haven’t gotten far yet, but it’s all about the baby steps and not forcing yourself onto the student. Rather, this class is about them, not you, and the whole reason I joined the class was for them. I always feel elated when they’re happy or excited and when they make big strides in their physical development.
Both Special Ed and General Ed teachers deserve to be recognized equally. I've talked with both kinds of'em, and it actually takes a lot of training to do what she does. Becoming a teacher is not as hard as becoming a doctor or an astronaut, but it's not as easy as most people think.

I graduated 7 years ago and I have all the bad memory about this program to teachers don't even give us support after we graduate only keep me behind and just give me worksheets I didn't do anything they just put us there so we can stay away from the regular kids
same here although I found elementary special ed to be tougher than the high school special ed, I never really liked it a whole lot because it was too quiet for me and I preferred the bigger classes because they were a lot more fun to be in and the kids in the larger classes were interactive with me which was cool, the kids in the smaller classes were more quieter I did like them although I just found I couldn't really interact with them on the same level a whole lot but the kids in the small class were very nice I just found it boring because the classes only having 4-6 students in it that's all.
Same I still went to Special ed classes from Pre school to middle school to high school now I'm age 31 I had bunch issues back than it sucks I'm losing Speech again I graduated in may 31 2009 I do miss my old friends from Special ed classes there one guy had Crush on me not sure why but he really liked me 😊 it happen back in Antlers middle school Special ed
This is a great video I really like how the students in the class get to learn life skills at school, it's nice they get to learn a lot so that way it'll help them be ready once they graduate and they will be successful.
My teachers don’t really help me. I have autism, and it’s really hard for me in classes. When I rode the bus to school, the high schoolers in the back called me a discusting -lut. That personally hurt me a lot. But, now that I am older, and have a better understanding of the world,and I have the best people in the world to help me learn better : D.

Thank you for what you do each day to educate and show these students love. I know it's not easy, special educators you are appreciated and have a special place in my heart, so much so that I am in the middle of obtaining my Special Education degree. Both of my brothers were in special education. It means so much to the families of these students that they are getting an education at their level but equally important that they are spending their day at school with people who genuinely care about them and their well-being.
the way this class was designed it's the way it should be in all special ed life skills I was in special ed myself as a child I was pushed through the education system therefore I was behind on my education I do blame the education system how is designing God bless the teachers that do care about the students God knows there's teachers out there that do not care at all

I didn't have anything against the other students it's just I loved being in a big classes with lots of kids and having conversations and all the kids in the regular class in 2 of the schools I was at were extremely nice and tolerant and they were awesome they liked me and didn't treat me any differently. With the smaller classes I just found I couldn't really interact the same way with the students as I could with the ones in the larger classes but I did like the students in the small classes they were nice as well it's just the very small classes were too quiet for me and I like being around a lot of people.

when I started getting older I hated the words special ed, but Iv made some real good people in there and we always had each others backs cause we all struggled and been looked down at and belittled so that is something I loved about it .Had some really bad teachers that belittled then ones u never for get
I am a sped teacher and I love it! I co-teach with my Gen Ed partner and we have a lot of AU kids who are mainstreamed in our class. In general, they try harder and have a better work ethic than most. It’s a great feeling when ever they are upset and I can make them feel better. My younger brother is AU so I grew up with it and learned a lot of strategies along the way. It’s amazing what these kids can do when given the chance and have to meet high expectations. We have some kids who are at the top of the class ahead of their Gen Ed peers. Every kid is a puzzle when they show up, and figuring them out is a slow and arduous process - but once you build that relationship and see growth - it is the greatest feeling on earth. Then when you learn they talk about you at home with their parents and they thank you for genuinely caring about their child it reminds you why you do what you do. It is hard though when they outgrow you and move on to another grade. Toughest job you will ever love!
It's good to see how people can teach the disabeld. I never been a special ed school, and I shouldn't be..basically I can have 3-5 panic attacks a day, and if would be ín a special ed school I light reach 6-7 panic attacks a day.
special education exists to benefit the student in a way that will enable them to succeed in academics. However, I think if you send a child to places like Kumon or sylvan, then it may enable them to branch out in education. These places can help them transition into the general education classroom which is the ultimate goal. School can become difficult.
These kids are lucky because growing up as a special need person the other kids were not as welcomeing into regular high school as they are today it wasn't until I was leaving high school is when the public schools were really started to get main stream with people with disabilities I turned out with emotional reck and It wasn't until my mom died that I knew I had to better myself
I was diagnosed with Autism. We are pushing into academic classes. The worst class that we think still is bad today. It's homeroom. We go to skill building websites that helps us, (I think they should just be extra credit). They put them in for a grade. We are forced to put noise-cancelling headphones, or headphones. If we talk. Which is 5 demerits we'll be sent to lunch detention. If we talk when being spoke to it's 1 week of detention, (25 demerits). This is a very strict program, don't ever go to Nyboces. This is where I go.
Well, after three long years I've moved from that program. A lot of my fellow classmates I still have added on social media agree with me that they were often manipulative and twisted words that are common means in that program, if it isn't too much to ask for are you around in NY?..
This is what I did all day every day 24 seven and I didn’t do anything in high school this is what I was doing to be honest I am now paying the price and finding a job that I like it’s very hard I had to quit so many jobs because of my learning problem and because of my ADHD

I was a special eder. I was alsp, THE absolute precise opposite, of a Valedictorian. I was THAT dense back then; and I'm in rumination about those years now. I seem to have gotten THAT; educationally screwed back then, and I feel awful about what seems to be my lack of discipline back then; now!
in my industry if we are aware of a plan that a special ed instructor wants to do in the community we try to include it in our plan for the day. I actually had met a nice family with a child on the spectrum at work. For some reason the kid came running to me and I tried to help redirect the kid back to their family.
i'm planning on going to school for social work to work with people with disabilities mainly autism and ds because i have friends with it and i've volunteered with them, i've learned that it takes patience and love working with people with disabilities. this one time i was playing kickball with the ec class at my school and i saw this kid with down syndrome who looked upset about something so i went over and talked to him because sometimes when i'm upset i like to talk to someone about it.
The class I never try in is math so I was put into a sorta sped or lower iq math class so I’m sitting there with my proven iq of 138 with some kids who are 60-90 iq and I’m sitting there bored as hell because I’m just flying through. It really shows you how much they are struggling compared to people of higher or average iq’s

I was in Special Education classes. It was a nightmare for me. It made me miserable and less active around my friends. Idk why my mom put me in those types of classes. The kids here aren’t my type… sorry if I sound rude but it’s the truth… it’s like I’m being friends with and teached by animals instead of humans….
There’s so many things to try: 1st - ask the child what they need to focus better, alternate seating (stand up, exercise ball, wobble seat, clipboard on the floor, movement/exercise breaks, providing fidgets, noise canceling/white noise headphones. And sometimes, kids constantly fidget. In my 2nd year teaching, my dad visited my classroom. At the end of the day he commented on one of my 2nd grades, saying he was very fidgeting/active. I honestly wasn’t even aware of his level of activity as he was a good student (on task, participating, accurate work completion). It’s really only when the fidgeting interferes with attention and work completion that it’s a concern. As far as worksheets, it depends on the age and content of the worksheets. Drill and practice activities are necessary, but should be limited to short periods of time.
severe/profound it's a life skills classroom. They learn skills needed for life, and social skills and they are supposed to learn math, English, etc but at their level they are functioning at which may be kinder or 1st grade example level and try to help them get up to a higher grade level if they can.Good question.
Special Ed should be set up in a diverse way at every school. In other words, Special Ed teachers should always meet full qualification so that none are better qualified than any others are, but school administrators almost never grow up and therefore generally just want Special Ed teachers to have at least the bare minimum requirements in order to teach Special Ed, and there shouldn’t be a bare minimum with Special Ed whatsoever!
Guys i was in them type of classes all because i almost died when my mom was giving birth to me an was very sick as a new born n i had to stay in hospital for like a half a month so like 3 weeks n it made me slow not stupid n plz dont call me that

I got cursed as a special eder, as of 1980. There were very usually 2 others in that class. At most ever; a total of 5 to 6. Math was my all time worst subject. But sorta not any more; as I watch math with the "Study Pug". Im a special eder survivor; as there are some mainstreamers and honors students, who aren't.
It depends on who teaches them. I am basically an intern in a high-school class of mixed disabilities, so we have deaf kids, autistic kids, Asperger's kids, down syndrome kids, and others. They're all very very sweet, and some are higher functioning than others and just need us to teach them slowly. Others struggle to learn things that you and I deem simple, like tying shoelaces. So really each case is individual, and we treat them mostly the same but based on what they personally understand and how their disability affects them.

@@Momoeditsgacha I agree with you, in my high school I was in special ed as well and we had kids with sever to minor autism, physical and intellectual disabilities and my school was also for students with behavioral problems too. Every so often in my classes during my high school we'd have a few behavioral students act up and there was a behavioral program at my school called the contact program and the behavior kids would get sent to the contact room, in that room there were 2 couches, a huge table with chair and one or two computers and if students did go in there they'd have to be doing there work or someone would be sitting on the couch have a behavioral staff make sure they're reading if they had a reading assignment or making sure they stay on task. Kids with autism would be in there too and do work as week there would be some kids who'd need to be in there to sit on the couch and calm down too but the behavior staff would keep an eye on them too.
@@Eurodance90schick No, some of these kids do not understand because they do not have the mental compacity to do so. There are some students with severe mental disability they could never live by themselves and they would always need special assistance throughout their lives, but there are some kids that are higher functioning. Some students with special needs get placed in the mainstream classes believe it or not.

They are both the same thing Plasma Skull. This is a life skills classroom, to my knowledge the lowest level of education we have as far as academics. Does not mean that anyone is dumb, they just learn different at a slower pace. Be happy if you are in special education because if not you may not pass school. This way, one way or another you will pass and if you get really good grades and do well on the government test then you will get a regular diploma. No worries.
At my daughter's school, all of the kids in Special Ed have behavioral problems, so they have trouble focusing in classes... That's why they're in Special Ed. My daughter's Special Ed is nothing like this school.

I hate how children with high functioning autism often arent put in any special needs classes at ALL. School is overly stressful for me and I get so confused over the littlest things. I am always on the verge of crying, but Im still put in normal classes because I'm high functioning. It's unfair- I still need care and I'm not the same as the others. It's degrading to me and makes me feel like someone whos just faking or being dramatic.

i was too, i was still borrowed into general ed classes, im currently a freshman and not in special education anymore. My parents figured I did not need the accommodations or support and i actually barely got any. I didn't feel like other kids when i was still put in 2 teacher classes, i just kinda felt out of place. eventually i got reevaluated and got out of special ed. Although i did hated me being in special ed I did not hate anyone else who was in it. And I don't understand why people hate kids who are in it too.

High doubts these kids will ever go to regular college. That is why these kids are in this class. It is not a regular special education class but instead a life skill class. This guy will not get fired. These kids have been taught for many years to learn how to do math and can not remember their facts so they are being taught how to use a calculator so that when they go buy groceries or pay bills they can add up the amount they will have to pay. The kids that know their facts are taught differently.
humankind invented calculators for a reason--so we wouldn't have to memorize math. This next concept is probably a little hard for you to grasp, but not everybody goes to college either. Unlike what your parents probably taught you, people can live happy and fulfilling lives without even graduating highschool--or knowing math

same here although I found elementary special ed to be tougher than the high school special ed, I never really liked it a whole lot because it was too quiet for me and I preferred the bigger classes because they were a lot more fun to be in and the kids in the larger classes were interactive with me which was cool, the kids in the smaller classes were more quieter I did like them although I just found I couldn't really interact with them on the same level a whole lot but the kids in the small class were very nice I just found it boring because the classes only having 4-6 students in it that's all.

This is a great video I really like how the students in the class get to learn life skills at school, it's nice they get to learn a lot so that way it'll help them be ready once they graduate and they will be successful.
My teachers don’t really help me. I have autism, and it’s really hard for me in classes. When I rode the bus to school, the high schoolers in the back called me a discusting -lut. That personally hurt me a lot. But, now that I am older, and have a better understanding of the world,and I have the best people in the world to help me learn better : D.

Thank you for what you do each day to educate and show these students love. I know it's not easy, special educators you are appreciated and have a special place in my heart, so much so that I am in the middle of obtaining my Special Education degree. Both of my brothers were in special education. It means so much to the families of these students that they are getting an education at their level but equally important that they are spending their day at school with people who genuinely care about them and their well-being.

I didn't have anything against the other students it's just I loved being in a big classes with lots of kids and having conversations and all the kids in the regular class in 2 of the schools I was at were extremely nice and tolerant and they were awesome they liked me and didn't treat me any differently. With the smaller classes I just found I couldn't really interact the same way with the students as I could with the ones in the larger classes but I did like the students in the small classes they were nice as well it's just the very small classes were too quiet for me and I like being around a lot of people.
These kids are doing fine they are enjoying life to the fullest right now.

I am a sped teacher and I love it! I co-teach with my Gen Ed partner and we have a lot of AU kids who are mainstreamed in our class. In general, they try harder and have a better work ethic than most. It’s a great feeling when ever they are upset and I can make them feel better. My younger brother is AU so I grew up with it and learned a lot of strategies along the way. It’s amazing what these kids can do when given the chance and have to meet high expectations. We have some kids who are at the top of the class ahead of their Gen Ed peers. Every kid is a puzzle when they show up, and figuring them out is a slow and arduous process - but once you build that relationship and see growth - it is the greatest feeling on earth. Then when you learn they talk about you at home with their parents and they thank you for genuinely caring about their child it reminds you why you do what you do. It is hard though when they outgrow you and move on to another grade. Toughest job you will ever love!

It's good to see how people can teach the disabeld. I never been a special ed school, and I shouldn't be..basically I can have 3-5 panic attacks a day, and if would be ín a special ed school I light reach 6-7 panic attacks a day.
special education exists to benefit the student in a way that will enable them to succeed in academics. However, I think if you send a child to places like Kumon or sylvan, then it may enable them to branch out in education. These places can help them transition into the general education classroom which is the ultimate goal. School can become difficult.
These kids are lucky because growing up as a special need person the other kids were not as welcomeing into regular high school as they are today it wasn't until I was leaving high school is when the public schools were really started to get main stream with people with disabilities I turned out with emotional reck and It wasn't until my mom died that I knew I had to better myself
I was diagnosed with Autism. We are pushing into academic classes. The worst class that we think still is bad today. It's homeroom. We go to skill building websites that helps us, (I think they should just be extra credit). They put them in for a grade. We are forced to put noise-cancelling headphones, or headphones. If we talk. Which is 5 demerits we'll be sent to lunch detention. If we talk when being spoke to it's 1 week of detention, (25 demerits). This is a very strict program, don't ever go to Nyboces. This is where I go.

Well, after three long years I've moved from that program. A lot of my fellow classmates I still have added on social media agree with me that they were often manipulative and twisted words that are common means in that program, if it isn't too much to ask for are you around in NY?..

in my industry if we are aware of a plan that a special ed instructor wants to do in the community we try to include it in our plan for the day. I actually had met a nice family with a child on the spectrum at work. For some reason the kid came running to me and I tried to help redirect the kid back to their family.
i'm planning on going to school for social work to work with people with disabilities mainly autism and ds because i have friends with it and i've volunteered with them, i've learned that it takes patience and love working with people with disabilities. this one time i was playing kickball with the ec class at my school and i saw this kid with down syndrome who looked upset about something so i went over and talked to him because sometimes when i'm upset i like to talk to someone about it.

The class I never try in is math so I was put into a sorta sped or lower iq math class so I’m sitting there with my proven iq of 138 with some kids who are 60-90 iq and I’m sitting there bored as hell because I’m just flying through. It really shows you how much they are struggling compared to people of higher or average iq’s

How do you help a child consistently fidgets in his seat what are the most worksheets work you work on?
There’s so many things to try: 1st - ask the child what they need to focus better, alternate seating (stand up, exercise ball, wobble seat, clipboard on the floor, movement/exercise breaks, providing fidgets, noise canceling/white noise headphones.
And sometimes, kids constantly fidget. In my 2nd year teaching, my dad visited my classroom. At the end of the day he commented on one of my 2nd grades, saying he was very fidgeting/active. I honestly wasn’t even aware of his level of activity as he was a good student (on task, participating, accurate work completion). It’s really only when the fidgeting interferes with attention and work completion that it’s a concern.
As far as worksheets, it depends on the age and content of the worksheets. Drill and practice activities are necessary, but should be limited to short periods of time.

severe/profound it's a life skills classroom. They learn skills needed for life, and social skills and they are supposed to learn math, English, etc but at their level they are functioning at which may be kinder or 1st grade example level and try to help them get up to a higher grade level if they can.Good question.
Profound because they are 14-18 years old and have to be reminded of the days of the week at the 1:00 minute mark.
Some are moderate but cant speak because of autism or languages disabilities I would say moderate to severe about 6-8 yrs old I

Special Ed should be set up in a diverse way at every school. In other words, Special Ed teachers should always meet full qualification so that none are better qualified than any others are, but school administrators almost never grow up and therefore generally just want Special Ed teachers to have at least the bare minimum requirements in order to teach Special Ed, and there shouldn’t be a bare minimum with Special Ed whatsoever!

Special Educations makes me feel uncomfortable when I'm being placed in and i know that I have high functioning anxiety plus i'm a minor which I want to learn everything in advanced levels carefully so I just dont feel like being in special education and my goal is to join them in Regular Classrooms and make some new allies and make the best behaviour in my life and special education is unlearning and i felt disgusted but i dont sit grumpily though , i worked hard and educate and yeah

I got cursed as a special eder, as of 1980. There were very usually 2 others in that class. At most ever; a total of 5 to 6. Math was my all time worst subject. But sorta not any more; as I watch math with the "Study Pug". Im a special eder survivor; as there are some mainstreamers and honors students, who aren't.

It depends on who teaches them. I am basically an intern in a high-school class of mixed disabilities, so we have deaf kids, autistic kids, Asperger's kids, down syndrome kids, and others. They're all very very sweet, and some are higher functioning than others and just need us to teach them slowly. Others struggle to learn things that you and I deem simple, like tying shoelaces. So really each case is individual, and we treat them mostly the same but based on what they personally understand and how their disability affects them.

@@Momoeditsgacha I agree with you, in my high school I was in special ed as well and we had kids with sever to minor autism, physical and intellectual disabilities and my school was also for students with behavioral problems too. Every so often in my classes during my high school we'd have a few behavioral students act up and there was a behavioral program at my school called the contact program and the behavior kids would get sent to the contact room, in that room there were 2 couches, a huge table with chair and one or two computers and if students did go in there they'd have to be doing there work or someone would be sitting on the couch have a behavioral staff make sure they're reading if they had a reading assignment or making sure they stay on task. Kids with autism would be in there too and do work as week there would be some kids who'd need to be in there to sit on the couch and calm down too but the behavior staff would keep an eye on them too.
@@Eurodance90schick No, some of these kids do not understand because they do not have the mental compacity to do so. There are some students with severe mental disability they could never live by themselves and they would always need special assistance throughout their lives, but there are some kids that are higher functioning. Some students with special needs get placed in the mainstream classes believe it or not.

How do I know if I am in special ed or just a alternative ed program. The kids in my program act a lot better than this and act like typical trouble making teens
They are both the same thing Plasma Skull. This is a life skills classroom, to my knowledge the lowest level of education we have as far as academics. Does not mean that anyone is dumb, they just learn different at a slower pace. Be happy if you are in special education because if not you may not pass school. This way, one way or another you will pass and if you get really good grades and do well on the government test then you will get a regular diploma. No worries.
At my daughter's school, all of the kids in Special Ed have behavioral problems, so they have trouble focusing in classes... That's why they're in Special Ed. My daughter's Special Ed is nothing like this school.
We act like teenagers. My class is 6-8th graders. When we make a simple mistake. We get a working lunch and consequences.

I hate how children with high functioning autism often arent put in any special needs classes at ALL. School is overly stressful for me and I get so confused over the littlest things. I am always on the verge of crying, but Im still put in normal classes because I'm high functioning. It's unfair- I still need care and I'm not the same as the others. i was too, i was still borrowed into general ed classes, im currently a freshman and not in special education anymore. My parents figured I did not need the accommodations or support and i actually barely got any. I didn't feel like other kids when i was still put in 2 teacher classes, i just kinda felt out of place. eventually i got reevaluated and got out of special ed. Although i did hated me being in special ed I did not hate anyone else who was in it. And I don't understand why people hate kids who are in it too.

High doubts these kids will ever go to regular college. That is why these kids are in this class. It is not a regular special education class but instead a life skill class. This guy will not get fired. These kids have been taught for many years to learn how to do math and can not remember their facts so they are being taught how to use a calculator so that when they go buy groceries or pay bills they can add up the amount they will have to pay. The kids that know their facts are taught differently.
humankind invented calculators for a reason--so we wouldn't have to memorize math. This next concept is probably a little hard for you to grasp, but not everybody goes to college either. Unlike what your parents probably taught you, people can live happy and fulfilling lives without even graduating highschool--or knowing math
