Back in the 90's I worked at an AIDS hospice. And when several of the patients had passed away over different times, they asked for this song to be played at their funerals. Though I am a big nerd who loves The Highlander movies, because of my past work this song has a deeper meaning. And tied to the faces of many men who died for no reason.
This song was written by Brian May to the movie The Highlander and it's about the immortality of the hero. Pls, check out the official video of another great song from the same movie written by Freddie called Princes Of The Universe.
Funny thing, when asked during an interview with Freddie, “how’s it feel to have the greatest voice in rock music?” Freddie replied, “I don’t know, ask Steve Perry.”
From the movie, “Highlander” this song describes the impossible relationship between an immortal and a mortal. The album “A Kind of Magic” isn’t an actual soundtrack but many of the tracks were written for the Highlander movie.
I’m a nurse too I graduated in 1994 and Baltimore where I worked was plagued w HIV so Freddie’s story hits home for me. Freddie passed when I was 19 and a sophomore in college
This was written by Brian May as part of the movie Highlander and released in an album in 1986. Quite prophetic I think considering Freddie's diagnosis of AIDS a couple of years later that proved to be terminal. I find the song exactly as you described it..... like the end of a movie with a very sad ending. There will only ever be one Freddie Mercury.I Thank you for enjoying, reacting, and commenting.
g@trendydelquendy Brian May wrote the song. Freddie was diagnosed in 1987 according to his partner and the song was released in 1986 before the other members of Queen knew of his diagnosis according to things written on the subject.
Freddie was officially diagnosed with in 1986 but was showing symptoms as early as 1982. If you look at Freddie you can tell from his face he def has aids
Great reaction. I’ve watched all your Queen reactions. I think you will love “Now I’m here” live in Wembley 1986. Roger Taylor said it was the hardest performance for him as far as the drumming that he had to do. You will also appreciate “Under Pressure” also live in Wembley. Keep them coming. 😁👍🏾
It’s hard to listen to this without crying. It’s a very emotional song. It’s heartbreaking to know that just a few months after Freddie died, a new treatment would come out that would help AIDS sufferers live longer. How I wish he could have lived longer to get the treatment. I’ve lost friends to AIDS. It’s horrible. Rest in eternal peace Freddie Mercury 😢
I love your reactions to Queen! My husband, kids, and I took the Queen tour in London in 1995. We will never forget that vacation~ Freddie and Queen are the best!
I adore Freddie and he was the most amazing singer/performer. Brian said in their documentary that they were so fortunate to have him. I'm not quoting this exactly but he said something like they were fortunate to have him like lightning striking and they were lucky because they were fortunate to have it strike twice. Him saying that they had they incomparable Freddie Mercury. Then when they thought they were retired and finished touring their keyboard player Spike Edney, who has been with them since the early 80s calls and says I think I found your new front man. He doesn't sound like Freddie. When he performs the songs he makes them fit his voice but he's there to pay respect to Freddie. When Brian plays his solos he steps out of the spotlight to make sure all attention is on the others. I am only bringing him up now because when he sang Who Wants to Live Forever at the Isle of Wight with Queen, I cried it was so beautiful. Two perfect versions of the song. Both incredibly beautiful. I suggest you watch it to see why he is touring right now in Japan with Queen. I saw them in November when they toured the US and it was one of the best concerts I have been to in my 50 years of going to hundreds of shows.
As a video, this is an example of Queen's studio work, as this was a music video. It's always worthwhile to listen to both the studio and live versions of all their music.
Brian wrote this beautiful song for the Queen sound track for the movie Highlander. This song is very good performed at live shows, too. Thank you for a great reaction.
The Highlander music on the (It's a Kind of Magic Album) is terrific. It is a great soundtrack! It was about a guy who was immortal....and lost friends, family and lovers through time...til he got "the Prize"....you should see it!
The live performances were great too! Great reaction. Notice John Deacon on the upright double bass and Roger on the timpani (I think that’s the type of drum from what I see and hear). So talented! And this song is incredibly sad 😔 why live forever if all those you love are mortal and will pass. Watch the Top of the Pops performance of Las Palabras de Amor for another Freddie in a tux performance. Very underrated song
Such an awesome song, written for the soundtrack of Highlander. It is EPIC! Unfortunately the version you used to react cuts off... It ends with a single drum, and Brian May saying, "Who lives forever anyway....." You should check out some other tracks from this album , namely One Vision, Gimme the Prize, and Princes of the Universe! All awesome songs!
Amen brother I'm a 70 year old woman from the south and I remember. Oh God I remember his concert. His voice in the group could bring you to tears or make you laugh but his voice can make you feel like you were flying. 💔💔💔💔😢😢🌠🌠🌠 R.I.P. Freddie Mercury the world lost another great voice of heavenly sound. !!!!!!!!
I was a teen when Queen was blowing the minds of the world, I play them so much my children & grandchildren love them also, I cry every time I hear this song, such a sad loss
The band knew that Freddie was dying when this song was written and video made. Can you imagine knowing that this might be your last chance to make every song, every note count? I swear he put his very soul into this song.
Hi, I know you have seen the live aid concert, truly spectacular performance by the band, something that is often missed is that Freddie and Brian came back out to perform one song, it’s so beautiful and so important for the day we all got together to support. If you just enter Freddie and Brian at live aid you will find it and I’m sure you will be blown away. It’s great for us older folks who have been brought up with Queen to see how they are touching the hearts and ears of the next generation. Regards.
Written by Brian May for the movie soundtrack for Highlander. Brian on keyboards and lead guitar and split lead vocals with Freddie. Roger on backing vocals and drums and John Deacon on backing vocals and the upright bass.
You should react to “The Miracle”, “I Want To Break Free”, “The Show Must Go On”, “Under Pressure - Live At Wembley” and the original “Under Pressure” with David Bowie. Bowie is another rabbit hole you should go down.
Queen is my favorite band of all time. Saw them in St Louis MO back in 1978. I was 16. Still the best concert ever! Freddie keeps the audience so involved. Finding TH-camrs like yourself seeing and hearing them for the first time? It warms my heart. As long as we pass the music on, Queen will never die. You can't really call them just a rock & roll band, their music is so varied. I'll be sticking around to watch your trip down this rabbit hole. ✌❤😁 What song would I recommend? You gotta hear Fat Bottomed Girls!
Watching some one young going through the same music I did at the same age and just loving every single note of it and the artistry, keep it going, these songs and artists are forever.
When my son my only child passed at 25 years old in 2012 I thought for sure I would die from a broken heart. But only God knows so it’s in his hands but I’m so ready when Hr says it’s time because I know I will see my boy again 💙
you should listen to Queen & Alan Lambert at the isle of wight festival 2016.. Most beautiful and tragic song and Alan Lambert sings it fantastically. Queen made approx 16 albums so you have to catch up so Enjoy!
Thanks, Justice.. that's Brian on keys and starting vocals.. (he wrote it for the movie "Highlander").. then check out when FREDDIE comes in.. they also have performed this live!.. hope you get around to it... appreciate your reaction..
Hymns aside, this song is a big favourite at funerals in the UK - together with "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Monty Python's Life of Brian. I have given instructions that both of them should be played as my ashes are scattered over the Indian Ocean. 😁
Freddie had a 4 -octave vocal range. The guitarist Brian May has his PhD in Astrophysics. Skip down to the part about the soundtrack to this film. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlander_(film)
“Who Wants to Live Forever” was composed by Queen guitarist Brian May and sung on the album version as a duet between himself and Freddie. Synths parts are played on a Yamaha DX-7 by Brian, and the orchestra was arranged and conducted by Michael Kamen. John Deacon, Queen bass player did not participate in the original recording (but the video features him playing a white double bass), and Roger Taylor, Queen drummer played some drum-machine parts and contributed backing vocals. The percussion was taken over by the orchestra as well as bass (double bass in this case). It serves as somewhat of a “love theme” of the film "Highlander", as it adds to the sub-plot of the movie (in the film, Freddie sings the first verse as well, unlike the album version, which has May singing the first verse). The members of Queen wrote some of the musical scores for the movie. The 1986 film "Highlander" is the story of an immortal Scottish swordsman who must confront the last of his immortal opponents, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize", the spiritual ability to know everything.
I discovered Queen and Freddie Mercury about 15 years ago, so as long as I’ve been a super fan Freddie’s been deceased. There’s something ominous about hearing the man sing about dying when he himself died far too young. As much as I’ve made Freddie Mercury a part of my life, I still listen daily & watch reaction videos and I still get goosebumps during certain moments. Fred gave an interview with a reporter named David Wigg and David asked him how he wanted to be remembered after his death. This was a few years before he started showing AIDS symptoms. He said he didn’t want to be remembered as boring, but then he said “who cares? I don’t!”
I do have to say, if you haven't watched "Highlander" (1986), then you should, if only to get context. Oh, and Freddie had a four octave range, which is insane.
You shoulds go watch and react to the movie Highlander. Queen did the soundtrack and this song is from a scene where the Highlander, who is immortal, sees his mortal wife grow old and die. When love must die...
you NEEDDDDDD to listen to their live version of this at Budapest 1986 freddie sounds EXACTLYYY like the live version PLEAAASSSEEE (your also fine asl please gimme a chance🙌🙌🙌🙌)

And Gimme the Prize from the soundtrack.
Brain May song 😂
Without a doubt, Freddie had the best male rock voice ever
Funny thing, when asked during an interview with Freddie, “how’s it feel to have the greatest voice in rock music?” Freddie replied, “I don’t know, ask Steve Perry.”
Everyone has that one song that makes them cry. This is the one, for me.
Have a listen to monster James blunt
@@gp4103 I’ve not heard that one, but I’ll look it up
Brian May wrote this for the movie 'Highlander' and it's about the immortality of the hero.
this song was made for the Highlander movie and they did the whole soundtrack, I think it was 12 songs, all very good
Freddie’s high notes. Wow. Chills evertime
Жаль что в живую так не пел.
From the movie, “Highlander” this song describes the impossible relationship between an immortal and a mortal. The album “A Kind of Magic” isn’t an actual soundtrack but many of the tracks were written for the Highlander movie.
This song always brings me to tears as a nurse..No one wants to live forever. ❤
Me too. Such a powerful, emotional song. And Freddie’s voice!
But we do all love you nurses x the real super heroes
I’m a nurse too I graduated in 1994 and Baltimore where I worked was plagued w HIV so Freddie’s story hits home for me. Freddie passed when I was 19 and a sophomore in college
Check out the wonderful movie, Highlander 1986. So much Queen music in it , including this masterpiece.
This was written by Brian May as part of the movie Highlander and released in an album in 1986.

I find the song exactly as you described it.....
like the end of a movie with a very sad ending.

Ah no. I assumed it was about his condition. Maybe it was AIDS, maybe he already knew.

Fantastic reaction ❤😊Freddie was a master showman, each and every performance was filled with heart and soul. RIP Freddie❤
This is one of my favorites. I love the whole Highlander soundtrack, but something about this song just kicks me in the chest, every time!
That's the most powerful beautiful song I've ever heard!
God bless you queen and god bless you freddie we miss you!

You're in The Queen Party now, that is all that matters hun

WOW Love your reaction! There will never be another Freddy Mercury! ❤❤❤

Love "Las Palabras de Amor" - gorgeous!

React to this song performed live at Wembley 1986...Live at Rio 1982.
Ttheir live performances are the BEST!!!!
Queen music is still relevant today ❤️
Such an awesome song, written for the soundtrack of Highlander. It is EPIC! Unfortunately the version you used to react cuts off...

QUEEN WAS CONSIDERED AS THE BEST BAND OF 20TH CENTURY. WELL DESERVED. THIS SONG WAS PART OF "HIGHLANDER'S SOUNDTRACK. AMAZING.
Queen… The BEST!!
Freddie is the GOAT, the best frontman of any band, ever.
Incomparable. No one will ever come close to his magnificence.

The band knew that Freddie was dying when this song was written and video made. Can you imagine knowing that this might be your last chance to make every song, every note count? I swear he put his very soul into this song.
My God, I MISS FREDDIE!!!!!! And thank God, I lived at that time.

I love the younger generation discovering and appreciating the beauty that was Freddie and Queen.
The singer in Silhouette, who sang the first few versus is Brian May he is amaing singer as well as guitarist.
The lead guitarist Brian May wrote this and started out singing. He was great.
Written by Brian May for the movie soundtrack for Highlander. Brian on keyboards and lead guitar and split lead vocals with Freddie. Roger on backing vocals and drums and John Deacon on backing vocals and the upright bass.
The best part of a great film❤️💃🌹
Wass the best...He is the best for ever

You need to listen to the album version. Also, Brian sang beautifully in this song.

This song always sends chills through me. I've told my daughter, this song is to be played at my funeral.
This is one of three songs they did for highlander 1986 movie awesome
Watching some one young going through the same music I did at the same age and just loving every single note of it and the artistry, keep it going, these songs and artists are forever.
Freddy Murcuy was a classic trained opera singer.

Freddie had a 4 -octave vocal range.

You MUST watch Rio 1985 ‘Love of my life’. Just remember their native language is Portuguese 👍👂👀🙌
Another group who were masters at combining their music with an orchestra is ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).
I do have to say, if you haven't watched "Highlander" (1986), then you should, if only to get context.
Oh, and Freddie had a four octave range, which is insane.
Written for film Hilaner.
