    "Pass me the salt."
    "I want a divorce."
My favorite 2 sentence exchange in any movie.

    • @jerodast
      @jerodast 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

My favorite "I want a divorce" line is from _Dead Like Me_ when the husband goes "maybe we should split up" and the wife goes on a long "oh FINALLY it comes out, well fine I'm going to take you for everything I can" rant, then the husband goes "...I was talking about searching for the dog that got out." "Oh."
But this one's good too :)

This movie was actually way better than I thought it would be. Made me really hate Ray...When he turned heel, he was a huge heel. "Naw." Nick Offerman was great as well.

The thing I like about this movie is that its a villain that starts from bottom. He worked his hustle to get his way and even though its sad situation its far more entertaining to watch his rise. Vs most movies the villain is always on top and rarely the underdog.

I can't believe the brothers went for the handshake deal. Their second biggest mistake. The first was them going into business with Ray in the first place.

How do you know they would have been nearly as successful without him?
Thye were paid very well based on the value of the company at the time.

I don’t know if they would have been successful without him or not. But it seems a partnership with Ray came with as many pitfalls as advantages.

It was a different time. A man’s word and a firm handshake were taken more seriously in those days.

Think about is this way: each brother walked away with the equivalent of close to $10M in today's money. No way they would have generated that much cash just from one or a handful of regional restaurants had they continued their business model until their retirement. Also, irl Dick McDonald used some of his cash to purchase stock in McDonald's right when it went public. He became a very rich man as a result of this business deal. Mac sadly died just 10 years after the events of this movie due to his health issues, but he likely would have ended up the same. No way this would have happened on this scale just from their restaurant.

Ray was loyal to people that were loyal to him, and savage to people who weren’t.

Great movie, I think it makes Ray look a little bit more of a "bad guy" than he actually was. He was definitely ambitious and driven, for sure. Ray took a lot of risks and was in serious danger of failure several times. The fact that Dick and Mac just weren't interested in the personal responsibility of handling aggressive expansion was totally their call. They were close enough to retirement age that they just didn't want to do it. They asked for a million bucks a piece to be bought out. That was a lot back then. Kroc didn't have the money at the time, he had to borrow it. but they got the money they asked for. Sure they should have been smarter on insisting in writing for a percentage, but that's on them. If they already thought Kroc was an iffy bs-artist, they shouldn't have trusted a handshake deal on anything.

This is great movie. Really enjoyable watch. It covers basically what happened, some facts omited or move around , but basically the truth. One thing i love about this McDonald's is largest real estate company in the world.

Sawing buildings in half is a thing. I saw a two story house that the new owners purchased and they literally cut it in half (after moving all the stuff out), put it on 2 18 wheelers, and moved it just like that to its new location. All that was left is the foundation and eventually a gas station built in that spot.

I think ive watched this 3 times. Everyone should watch it to ensure they understand the depth of the hustle that Kroc commanded. He screwed them so hard it hurt people who aren't a McDonald Brother.

That moment when Bruce Wayne beats Ron Swanson at capitalism. Guess Ron needs to go to the woods and trying eating burgers instead of selling them 🤣

The best and worst of capitalism. One thing I noticed out of place was the size of the soft drinks. They started much smaller. I recall small sizes being just 6oz or 8oz in the 70’s, it would look so tiny today.

Its a terrific example of why capitalism is great and how America does it better than anyone else: the only things that separated Ray Kroc and the McDonald brothers from millions or even billions of dollars were a desirable product and hard work. Not political connections, not government bestowments, just hard work and they went from nothing to unbridled wealth and worldwide fame.

If you like Michael Keaton, you gotta watch Batsh*t Valley in the series Documentary Now. It mocks the documentary “Wild Wild Country” which is also very good and a true story. Watch both!

It is a great movie. You kinda root for both sides, which is a hard trick to pull off, especially when you're talking about a corporation like McDonald's. Have you seen Steve Jobs, the 2015 movie. Feel like you need some Sorkin in your life.

despite how one views mcdonalds brand and history the film to some degree paints a picture to general ppl on how these businesses work. contracts, lands, productivity, management and so on a person should know and understand if be an owner and keep the business going and/or branch out. you cant 100% happy go lucky/to the heart mentality on running a business like the brothers. do that long enough then someone all have to do is poach like a vulture, stare how you do things, find a weakness, go in and take what you made. them trusting him too early, them agreeing to contract early, them not taking initiative early is their downfall. so becomes one of those you can but also cant pity them with how they think on this.
also movie paints a picture wth america is and the terms "land of oppurtunity" cause ppl dont realize the following: the word opportunity applies to those wanting to seek freedom/make living BUT also applies to those restraining freedom and taking money. even in the land of the free you need to always watch your back and carefully who to trust, ALWAYS.
