Those timelines for mastering Japanese are a bit extraterrestrial. On average the US foreign service says it takes 2,200 hrs. If you studied 40 hrs a week x 50 weeks youd still barely scrape that. Plus your brain would be fried. And theres absolutely no way you would be able to enjoy and learn the deeper meanings of words or how they fit into culture. Some may be quicker than others or some may take longer but it is a journey. Where the math really shines is how anyone can learn 3 words a day. Thats a thousand words per year! In 5 years thats 5,000 words. If you double it and learn 6 words per day, thats 10,000 words in 5 years. Absolute Mastery.
