I'm not so much afraid how much money would change me if I got it, but how much it will change everyone else around me if I did get it. I can't stand people who hang off of winners, be it "Friends" or even "Family". If I could afford to I would help, but even me personally, I can't imagine a close friend of family member winning money and somehow feeling I had some entitlement to it.

People always pull the "these people are just stupid, if I won I would invest and save" ... you're lying to yourself! You start buying the big stuff, the dream house, the dream car ... then comes the nicer clothes, the better tech and the cosmetic surgery ... all the while eating out at the nicest restaurants, getting wasted on the priciest wines and whiskies. Not to mention all the friends and long lost family members wanting a hand out.
Soon adds up and them millions soon deplete.

There is one that happened in Brasil, this guy didn't even have his lags (amputee). He started giving his money away in parties and other encounters with "new friends". Then he meet this hairstyler who he got in love and they both married. She and his bodyguard (which she convinced him he needed it) planned the assassination, soo she could keep the money, they did it, they killed him, but they was soo stupid that the left a number of proofs behind, the police had no trouble to get them and convict the double. Since the lottery winner had no family whatsoever, all the money has been directed to the government the biggest of all thievers.

This is why smart investors never put all their money in the same place. My grandfather was a smart investor. He had a rule of thumb, never put more than 5% in any one investment. That way if something goes south, you only lose 5%. He invested in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, commodities including metals. He invested in real estate and held notes for several businesses. He had a lot of other kinds of investments as well. Even if the economy completely collapsed he would have done OK. A smart investor does this and also seeks the advice of numerous people and not just believe in the words of one person.

    • @largol33t1
      @largol33t1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I learned a crapload from watching over a DOZEN videos about reckless lottery winners
      - Gee, don't take a mortgage on a mansion! That's the recurring theme that keeps popping up in all those videos I saw: Moron wins lottery and mortgages a ginormous mansion. Then goes on a spending spree. Money runs out and lottery fool loses mansion.
Solution (and I'm sure nobody who wins the lottery will ever do any of what I learned!) BUY a decent size home in full but golly, don't buy a megamansion with 2 pools and a 5 car garage! The maintenance and electrical bills would still run you broke even if you didn't go on a shopping spree!
Pay the house in FULL and try to pay the insurance and property taxes a year in advance so you have a roof over your head. I am amazed how many are homeless because they couldn't pay a 4-digit mortgage on their megamansion...
      - Don't build up a gang of homies/groupies. They will drain your wallet so quickly your head will spin. That's why MC Hammer went broke. He had a massive gang of groupies and it cost him over $10k a month to keep them! $10k a month is easily almost a quarter million bucks a year.
      - Why oh, why do you need three or sometimes SEVEN supercars? You're just you: you can't drive all of them at the same time. Not one but several lottery winners bought a Bugatti Veyron. Did you know the tires on those are so customized and special that they have to be replaced every 2-3 years at a whopping $9,000 per tire?? Yes, Nine thousand dollars each! And the $50 15-minute oil change on your old car? Fuggedaboutit. A Veyron oil change is an eye watering $20,000. Why? Bugatti forces you to flush ALL the fluids from the car with every oil change or your warranty is void. And the worst part: any labor that requires even a little bit of engine disassembly will always always set you back a minimum of $10k! If I won $10 million, I would not buy anything made by Bugatti, Lamborghini or McLaren. The maintenance costs sound absolutely ridiculous. Oh, and don't forget your sky-high insurance and the fuel bill...
      - Charity is NOT bad but some of them just give and give and soon find they blew their entire first yearly payout. If you like to help others, that's fine but at least keep a ledger to track what you have and every penny you donate. I would buy bread and soup for my town's local food pantry in bulk every Xmas if I won a huge lottery payout but forget about churches. They just want your money.
      - Get a freaking accountant you can trust. I see it again and again: half the people mentioned in all the videos have never been taught a thing about how to manage money.
      - Don't cheat on your spouse just because you're rich. I've seen particularly nasty judges take away ALL the lottery winnings and give it to the spouse that was cheated on!
      - Don't do drugs. Yes, people will just go "I know, I ain't touching cocaine, blah, blah, blah." Still, I'm amazed how many start snorting up coke like it's candy or even get into drug dealing! I don't get it.
      - And last but not least, gee, you are ALREADY rich! Why the hell do you have to hit Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, etc?? You will LOSE your money for sure. Lost count of how many lottery winners went broke when they just had to go on a month long vacation in Vegas or Atlantic City. Just blows my mind.
One guy did something similar: he went broke because he splurged on clothing and cars. One ridiculous thing he did was buy TWENTY pairs of super customized Jordan sneakers. What the heck does one need 20 of the exact same shoe for?? You only have two feet!

  • @airman6937

Hey guys pro tip if you win the lottery. Only use the money on bills and such which need to be payed, and then put it all in the bank and live off the interest. The interest will be enough to have fun with and be happy. Then once you retire mostly off normal work that's when you can start spending the rest of the money if you want to

Very low intelligence. My mom spent 5 grand for a 1 week stay at a hotel while she was homeless and my dad got 15k when she died and spent 9 of it on a car for my little sister and he was homeless living in the break room of the walmart he worked at with permission. Btw my sister was homeless too. She lived in a truck with no transmission. To this day he swears he made the right decision of a car over a house. My sister says she wished he gave her the other 6k for gas. XP

I would keep working though, but for myself. If you won say $60,000,000 you'd be a lot better off spending time learning how to properly manage it and invest it, than working 9-5 for say $50k/year.

Nothing at all. The problem is a lot of people are not smart about how they spend their winnings. A neighbor of mine won 3 million and after paying taxes and they took the lump sum they ended up getting about a million. He had a house worth $150k that he owed a mortgage on. He was driving a 20 year old car and according to the paper about $5k in debts. He could have paid off is mortgage, bought a new car, paid his debts and then still have enough for a few nice things and the rest could have gone into an income fund. Instead he blew threw the whole amount in under a year. never paid off his house and since he quit his job and could not get it back he no longer could afford to pay the mortgage so he lost his house. Last I heard he works for McDonald's. Also owes over a hundred grand in debts now. Some people are just plain stupid with money.

How hard is it to just live a simple life where u don't have to work anymore? Love your parents, love your family, and enjoy not slaving away at a job, instead live a low expense sustainable lifestyle where u can enjoy the simpler things.
I honestly believe to have a happy and fulfilling you need love for your community, freedom, and creating something.

Most people bitching out the son don't realize the mother probably would've blown through it all without investing it

You can't bring it with you, so you might as well be broke before you pop your clogs. Live a good life and bring a few along for the journey as well. Then at least you've got a good story to tell and you've had a great time.

In fairness to the 2nd one, she was real elderly and might not have been to think. Besides, that's her own son. He shouldn't have robbed his own mother.

2nd person had poor planning. When her elderly mother passes away the money still belongs to him through inheritance. However he chose the path of fraud and land himself in a broken family and a lawsuit, and probably has to pay back a huge sum of what he could have gotten entirely.
