I hate to tell you this but Darksiders 1 is a Zelda ocarina of time clone, not a god of war clone.
Not to mention God of war is a devil may cry clone. So the entire argument is a mute point.

As a big Sonic fan, I actually always find it fun to see opinions people have on the games, be it from Sonic fans or non-Sonic fans, positive or negative, as long as it isn’t just blind bashing or positivity, and you definitely made some really good points about Unleashed that don’t just sound like you’re hating it for the sake of hating it. You gave it a shot, pointed out what you liked, and basically pointed out all the complaints I have with the game too, despite me loving it, so that’s great, and I’m very much hoping the Sonic fans that don’t understand what ‘opinion’ means don’t get all angry in the comments. Another thing I'd argue separates The DMCs from the GoWs is the way combat plays a role. In God of War types, its about racking up the combo hits, mashing buttons like a maniac and dealing with great hordes of enemies while being an unstoppable force. Combos in these games are also very, dial-a-combo style in that they follow a pattern starting with light attacks and alternating between heavy attacks and so on and so forth.
DMC style games require more from the player during combat. Combos can be canceled into other moves and dodges and the games want the player to be more creative and expressive with combat. It's that freedom of expression and expectation of creativity that truly separates the DMCs from GoWs.
Not saying one is better than the other, but I definitely prefer the DMC style of combat.

GOW and DMC have completely different combat systems. GOW combat is based on Onimusha and Ninja Gaiden, where you mix light and heavy attacks to make combos and have an easier dodge, whereas DMC is more about timing your attacks to make different combos and using firearms to control space.
DMC's combat system is more complex, but the camera angles and control scheme is trash compared to GOW. DMC is harder than GOW because it has a worse camera and erratic direction-based attacks. It feels more like a 2D fighter in 3D spaces. GOW combos are absurdly easy but there's no denying it has a better gameplay design overall, and that helps the player a lot.

Yeah, that happened to me too in Unleashed, the whole shock wave knocking you off the building. Best way to avoid that is to simply get away from it as it's preparing to jump instead of just continuing to whale on it. Then just jump over the incoming shockwave, get back in and continue attacking.
You technically can block the jump but not without enough shield meter as it'll just eat through the shield if that's the case. You'll also probably still get hit by his jumping while doing aerial combos, further solidifying that the best tactic against that move is just to simply back off.
Yes, Sonic Unleashed is one of my favorite games of all time and no, I don't intend to criticize how you play or feel about the game. I just wanted to point it out. I absolute love Chip for the reasons you say you hate him for as a character so I just disagree in that regard and that's great! Since you asked for the Tiamat Boss you actually can just melee her after the bombs are gone, her stun state is triggered by damage in general you don't have to use the crossblade, it's safe but slow whereas stick and moving with melee is risky but fast.
Silitha actually doesn't have that much health it's just she has a lot of poorly communicated phase transitions that make it seem like she has more health than she really does. Roughly one combo not even a full one will progress one phase and once that damage quota is met she seems to become immune until you hookshot her again, which is why she seems to have a lot of health but really doesn't. I've consistently been able to kill her quickly with only a small handful of basic attacks on multiple playthroughs but landing the more damaging stuff doesn't make the fight go any faster. Also for as intimidating as her attacks are you actually have more time than it appears to dodge so long as you don't succumb to deer in headlights syndrome and or dodge in the wrong direction, I.E. don't dodge directly backwards for her lunging attack dodge to the side. Think of her as less fo a boss and more of a timing/pattern puzzle, that simple change in mentality takes her from very hard to cakewalk.
I know you probably won't replay the game but you asked if you were doing anything wrong so I figured I'd at least try to answer that to the best of my ability, since I've played through the game multiple times.

I'm a DMC and GOW fan and feel the need to correct an error in their comparison. It is DMC that's based on precision. GOW is for when you want to relax your brain and slay stress free. I'm surprised the GOW creator got inspired by DMC because, while both action, they are night and day. It's like saying that Spartacus was inspired by the Matrix, but maybe it inspired him to create his own action legend...and that's awesome.

I like this series. I'm an old 50something gamer. Every decade or so, a game shapes all the other games to come after. The 80s were Space Invaders/Galaxian and Pac-Man clones. The 90s were Final Fight/Street fighter clones. God of War was that game.
I played Dante's Inferno once. I remember enjoying it at the time, but it was missing that something that made me want to play it again. Some of it was that an hour into it, my first thought was "this is just Baby God of War"... and GOW still was releasing sequels regularly. And I liked GOW more.

Good on you for making a video about a franchise you’re proud of. It takes a lot of time and effort to make these and a strong passion. There are going to be those that disagree however, and I unfortunately disagree with most, if not the whole premise of the video. Especially when the claim is that if a game takes inspiration from God of War and replicates certain aspects, then its deemed a knock off, but if God of War does the same, it took inspiration from its predecessors. I don’t have anything against the God of War, but thats a pretty arrogant claim. As one who designs and builds games in hopes to release one in the future, there’s already a huge feeling for the need to be original and not copy something existing. It gets to the point where you question if you actually came up with an interesting original idea or if you just missed something obscure and later, the masses will start calling your creation a clone or a knock off. Frankly, its incredibly insulting to those who put the effort in to making something fun, its discouraging to those of us who are trying to take steps to one day make something that could be great like God of War, and, unless the distinction between two titles was so blurred that it would border plagiarism, I would be more flattered that someone took inspiration from a game I made rather than brush it off as a simple knock off. Like I said, I know making videos takes a lot of time and effort, but try not to brush off the efforts of those putting in arguably more time and more effort themselves. Unless I grossly misinterpreted the intention of your video, then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

    • @TBP
      @TBP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Okay, so I'm going to try and level with you. I understand that it must be frustrating as a game developer to constantly have your work be compared to that of other people's. But with all due respect, I think you've fallen at the first hurdle here in that you're taking this video way too seriously. It was never supposed to be a serious assessment on a game's worthiness to exist based around its inspirations. The fact is, this is just a video meant to highlight how God of War inspired the industry for a time, because I think it's interesting to see how games that take heavy inspiration from a popular title are able to separate themselves. But more than anything, this video is just supposed to be light entertainment. To your claim about arrogance, I'll just say this, inspiration is a spectrum. You see, I'm using knockoff as a find and replace for the phrase "heavily inspired" because knockoff is a much snappier way to put it. It admittedly makes some things get lost in translation, but that's the price you pay for being succinct. I think it's fairly self-evident what quantifies being inspired, and what quantifies being heavily inspired. God of war and Devil May Cry play similarly, but they feel much different. God of War didn't "do the same thing" as Devil May cry. Contrarily, Dante's Inferno plays the same and has many identical elements to god of war including the HUD. But in keeping with the theme about not taking this too seriously, I said multiple times in the video, who cares as long as it's good? Basically, I understand where you're coming from, and I respect your point, but I think you've grabbed the wrong end of the wrong stick here, and I think you need to take a step back and really question if any of this even matters. Because really, it's all just entertainment.

Games are so interesting like this. Devil May Cry was a big genre defining game that got a lot of its own knockoffs, but it also led to unique games that simply took inspiration while creating something unique, like God of War, and then GoW in turn got it's own set of knock-offs, that in some sense, can still be traced back to DMC. It's a weird sort of pipeline. Also it's funny to me that Castlevania had a DMC game (Lament of Innocence) and a GoW game.

There's no block, counter, two input combos, omnidirectional dodge or air juggle in DMC1, but you can do all of that in Ninja Gaiden. Only combat mechanic GOW took from DMC was the High Time attack and that's all, everything else is completely different

Castlevania has a long history of 3D games dating back to the Nintendo 64. In fact, one of my favorites, lament of Innocence, was in production and released before the first God of war. God of war took a lot of liberties with that game's combat system. And Lords of shadows combat system is way deeper than any God of war game. And people always tend to forget about devil May cry being years ahead of any god of war game. God of war was not the first one to do in over the top action game and it's quite annoying that every third person action game gets compared to it. It's a fantastic IP but it's the Duke nukem of third person action games. Kratos is comically over the top.

I have news for you, DMC is a Onimusha knock off, and if you play Onimusha and Ninja Gaiden Black you'll see that those two games were the base for GOW combat mechanics not DMC. Also the first ever character action was Strider and that game was also an inspiration for DMC. Overall hack and slash is a really old genre that started in 2D action games and evolved to 3D action-adventure. But no, DMC didn't invent the wheel

@@elapidpython4378Ninja Gaiden from 2004 is the same as Ninja Gaiden Black bruh. It came a year before and it has the exact same control scheme as God of War 1. DMC1 has no air juggles, parrys, counters, blocking, grabs, magic, finishers, and all of those combat mechanics come from Onimusha and Ninja Gaiden. DMC 1 and 2 are 60% shooting even the final boss in DMC1 is a bullet hell. DMC invented "shooter slashers" but 3D hack and slash dates from Soul Reaver, Nightmare Creatures, Onimusha and Dynasty Warriors 2. And before 3D hack and slash existed we had 2D hack and slash, Strider's DNA is present in every single hack and slash game to date, from GOW, to MGR to DMC, to NG etc.
But even then the first 3D hack and slash would be Soul Reaver which inspired Onimusha. Do a little research dude, Kamiya himself admitted he took inspirations both from Strider and Onimusha, he even said that the High Time attack was a copy of the uppercut slash in Onimusha, they only added shooting to an already existing formula

Breaking Bad and Family Guy have the same age rating. But Family Guy's sense of humor is crude and appeals mostly to people under the recommended age rating. The same applies for gratuitous violence and nudity, of which Dante's Inferno has an abundance of.
