    HANS-ULRICH RUDEL
He was the most decorated German pilot of the war and the only recipient of the Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds, Rudel was credited with the destruction of 519 tanks, one battleship, one cruiser, 70 landing craft and 150 artillery emplacements. He claimed nine aerial victories and the destruction of more than 800 vehicles. He flew 2,530 ground-attack missions exclusively on the Eastern Front, usually flying the Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka" dive bomber.
Rudel surrendered to US forces in 1945 and emigrated to Argentina.
    KUBAN BRIDGEHEAD
The Kuban Bridgehead (German: Kuban-Brückenkopf), also known as the "Goth's head position" (Gotenkopfstellung), was a German military position on the Taman Peninsula, Russia, between the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. Existing from January to October 1943, the bridgehead formed after the Germans were pushed out of the Caucasus. The heavily fortified position was intended as a staging area for the Wehrmacht which was to be used to renew attacks towards the oil wells of the Caucasus. Axis positions in the bridgehead were repeatedly subjected to large Soviet offensives, but none ever comprehensively broke the Axis defensive lines. The bridgehead was abandoned when the Red Army breached the Panther-Wotan line, forcing an evacuation of the German forces across the Kerch Strait to Crimea.
Case Blue (Fall Blau), launched 28 June 1942, saw Army Group South divided into two Army Groups, Army Group A and Army Group B, the former participating in the Battle of the Caucasus. Throughout the operation the German situation, especially that of Army Group B centered on Stalingrad, began to deteriorate. As Army Group B began collapsing in the North, Army Group A quickly found itself at risk of being flanked. It was forced to abandon its task of securing the oilfields of the Caspian, and began withdrawing down the Terek River toward the Taman Peninsula.
Following the encirclement of the 6th Army at Stalingrad, Army Group A withdrew towards the Black Sea and Crimea. The 17th Army, commanded by Richard Ruoff and Erwin Jaenecke, constructed a defensive position across the Kuban River delta in the Taman Peninsula, which was completed in January 1943. The main, first defense line started by Novorossiysk and ran roughly northwards all the way across the peninsula. Consisting of 5 defense lines, the total depth of the defense area was up to 60 km. German forces, moving from positions along the Terek River, fully occupied the new defensive network in February 1943 while under constant attack by the Red Army. The bridgehead, originally intended to provide a staging area for future attempts to gain control of the Caspian oil fields, was re-tasked on 3 September 1943, as the German situation on the Eastern Front continued to deteriorate. The Kuban Bridgehead then served to evacuate German forces as the withdrawal of Army Group South to the Dnieper Line had become inevitable.

Nice one Frederick! That 37mm Gun Camera footage at the end just goes to show how much of a devestating Weapons platform it was for its time When Paired with the Stuka Dive Bomber and a Pilot of Rudell's Calibre!

Yes it lost its luster as a diver bomber due to its slow speed & non-retractable landing gear late in the war. However it was a robust plane & a good platform as a ground attack airplane with those devastating twin 37mm cannons. It was a precursor to the A-10 similar to the better purpose built ground attack plane made by the Soviets, the IL-2.
Our pilots had limited sorties & rotations. German pilots did not which is why they have insane stats like number of missions/sorties & kills that will never be beat. Rudel was said to have done damage in the billions😦 If you ever hear a summary of his exploits it is staggering. He once had to escape like 50km through hostile lines while wounded. He lost part of his right leg I believe but after a couple of months of rest & rehabilitation he was back to flying combat missions. That dude was a beast.

3:29..OH MAN?!....No way?....Im pretty certain that home on that hill is a structure that still stands today as a guest-house on, or near, the road that connects Ramsau (Ramsau being 6-7 kms NW of Berchtesgaden ) & the wonderful Alpine lake known as the 'Hinterzee' (HIGHLY recommend a visit y'allz if even in the area, or one can take a leisurely stroll/hike along the excellent, not too tough to do, 6km hike betwixt Ramsau & the Hinterzee. The trail Mostly/largely flat-ish.;)

Panorama episode 4 for 1945. Who saw these films ? By January 1945 the Russkies were across the Oder, US/UK in the Ruhr and daily bombing raids resulting in chaos and dysfunctional cities .
I thought all theatres were closed to the public in late 1944.
So obviously these films were rarely seen by the cold and hungry population.
So interesting that these films are preserved and survived post war censorship by DDR / West

El Stuka, era lento y debía de ir acompañado de dos cazas para protegerlo.
Para el frente oriental, era válido, contra Inglaterra un estorbo.

Pretty wild that each 3.7cm kannonen only carried a magazine capacity of 12 total rounds per gun, but seeing it only took 1, or maybe two, accurate strikes on any tanks roof-plate or rear engine decking & "BeDeBeBaDOOM-Thats ALL Folks!!!!"...Ha!
-Too think the Germanic WW2 'BIGGER !BOOM!-Boner' koncept they'd tried to use the even larger 5cm/50mm PAK 38/MK214 on the jet-powered ME 262 Schwalbe? -Im quite certain even Adolf Galland, C.O of ME262 Jagdverband/JG 54 gave that idea a raised eyebrow, only Spock could envy, deftly followed by a vigorous side to side shaking of the head, straight into a frustrated face palm only a red-faced General Heinze Guderian could appreciate after his own order during late-July/Aug to move south to shore up/envelop Gen. Vlasovs forces in & around Kiev?...(BIG 'Oopsie' as to OP Typhoon in Oct & Heinze KNEW IT..:)
-As the detonation of those same 5cm guns employed as the FLAK-41 AA role dazzled the gunners themselves with the immense muzzle flash generated, imagine onna those 6 feet out directly in front of youre line of sight/cockpit?!...;)
-Thank goodness Hans Ulrich Rudel had Dr. Gadermann as his rear gunner, as that man & his deftly applied medical actions saved Rudels life after the Soviet AA strike that mangled his lower leg, only to be right back in the pilots seat bearing a rather 4-5 short recovery period of healing time afterwards!?.....
Its simply hard to fathom Hans Ulrich Rudel flew well over 2500+ individual combat sorties on the Eastern Front alone?!....400 of those in the FW-190, the rest in the JU87 Stuka...
~Meaning the guy was in the pilots seat nearly EVERY SINGLE DAY, ALL DAY LONG for the duration of WW2?!...Only time he'd get a 'Break' was after being injured, or on the flight line getting re-fuel's n' re-armed for the next trip ^up.....
Way 'ta go M45, you DO what you DO extremely WELL my friend!..
    ~Wishing you n' youres a wonderful summer!...;)
