I really enjoyed seeing the writer-side of Ann Elder come out in these episodes. She gave thoughtful and interesting answers that were not necessarily predictable. Its not something the show had a lot of going forward.
With 100* episodes completed, here's a running total of head-to-head match stats: I think I was most surprised at how few wins there really were: Overall, there were 35 successful matches out of 116 attempts, or a 30.17% success rate. Richard (barely) tops the list of most wins at 6, but despite the common mythology, he actually has the lowest success rate of the 9 top-matching celebs at 27.3% (he's also below the overall success rate). I'll be interested to see how the numbers evolve going forward, but for now, here are the stats: Richard - 6 wins (22 attempts, giving him a success rate of 27.3%) Betty White - 5 (12 tries, 41.7%) Bert Convey - 4 (12 tries, 33.3%) Brett - 4 (11 tries, 36.4%) Charles - 2 (3 tries, 66.7%) Ann Elder 2 out of 3 tries (66.7%) Stu Gilliam 2 out of 5 tries (40%) Jack Klugman 2 out of 5 tries (40%). Jo Ann Pflug 2 out of 7 tries (28.6%).. 6 other celebs have achieved one head-to-head match (in alphabetical order): Jack Carter 1 out of 2 Carolyn Jones 1 out of 1 Michael Landon 1 out of 2 Loretta Switt 1 out of 2 Richard Thomas 1 out of 2 Bobby Van 1 out of 2 Here are all the other celebs who have been chosen so far without matching (in alphabetical order): Morey Amsterdam - chosen 1 time Lucie Arnaz - chosen 1 time Kay Ballard - chosen 1 time Bob Barker - chosen 2 times Joyce Bulifant - chosen 1 time Bill Cullen - chosen 1 time Stephanie Edwards - chosen 2 times Nanette Fabray - chosen 2 times Fannie Flagg - chosen 1 time Arlene Francis - chosen 1 time Dick Gautier - chosen 1 time Ruta Lee - chosen 1 time Robert Q. Lewis - chosen 1 time Mary Ann Mobley - chosen 4 times Jaye P. Morgan - chosen 1 time Nipsey Russell - chosen 3 times McLean Stevenson - chosen 1 time It's interesting to note that Richard has the most total successful matches, and has been chosen the most, but he's also appeared on every single episode, which no other celeb has done. A bit of trivia regarding the regulars: Charles got his first match in episode 37 (his second try), and matched again in episode 38. Brett's first match came in episode 55 (her fifth try). Richard's first match came in episode 58 (his ninth try). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 100, excluding the lost/missing episodes 31, 32, 33.
I was just watching the new Match Game and it still doesn’t compare to the original one. The contestants on with Gene Rayburn were more demure This new one the contestants are sometimes a wee bit overbearing and the cast are vulgar Gene Rayburns group were suggestive but far from vulgar Plus the contestants were all so beautifully dressed I think this new Match Game should take a leaf out of The old Match Game a classy wonderful show So glad it’s back and can watch it on GSN
Watched for a few minutes when it first came out a few years ago and that was it. Unfunny, liberal pos host with equally unfunny, liberal, anti-American liberal absolute TRASH for what they call "celebrities". Yeah, right. All the remakes are that disgusting, especially the new supermarket sweep. All anti-white racist, liberal, immoral TRASH!
Couldn't agree more, and demure is a spot-on description, people generally seemed more respectful back then/in the good old days (not "back in the day" thanks). Best thing about the show was the naughty and suggestive humour, delivered by naturally funny people, who knew how to banter without being coarse (coarse can be as funny as f*** too of course), and who didn't have to live with the constant burden of tossers like us spouting off in self-righteous judgement over every word they said. My therapist recommended that I take a couple of Match Games intravenously every day to keep myself on the right side of sane.
Kind of slow again this week but Brett won the week giving away 6,000 in a head to head and audience match matches for the regulars. Richard had 11 matches for the week for the regulars. Ann gave away 5,250 dollars in head to head and audience match matches with 9 matches, also Robert had 9 matches for the semi regulars. Morey gave away 500 dollars and Joyce gave away 250 dollars in audience match matches..
Richard Dawson LOL "GUARD!" "You hamburger..." "Get back!" "My place?" "The judge..." "I swear on my life!! Now that's not fair! We are in a delicatessen!!"
Christmas tree was the answer I thought of, it was a great answer. She deserved more matches than that. How could any contestant ever think to say, "The janitor's brother" (Morey's answer)?? Morey seemed to deliberately give un-matchable answers. He was an awful panelist imo.
Canned fruit and vegetables were still popular... somehow... Del Monte had the most beautiful 4 color process, with 3 special colors labels. The inks used in the printing were brighter in color than the dingy looking products inside the cans...
Depending on who you asked they had one cocktail, except Richard for sure, at the dinner break to loosen them up a little but they were already a walking party sober.. Gene has said on the show he didn't drink because of a rotten liver but I don't know.. ;0) One staffer said they didn't serve cocktails at the dinner/lunch breaks at all..So who knows..
Seems like some tension on the set on this one; initially, the audience is very quiet, and the slight rivalry I noticed in the preceding episodes between Dawson and Amsterdam (on the former's part) seems even more apparent during the wedding vs bridal moment. Unrelatedly, all these lipstick-stained teeth in the Seventies. Yuck.
9:49 Morey tries to warn Gene about being so forward with the contestant. Little did Morey know that was just the beginning of several years of Gene being sexually aggressive towards the good looking women on this show.
Never get tired of the match game..My favorite😅😅😅
Really enjoyed Robert Q Lewis on the show! I've seen him on What's My Line & he's a very good game player!!! ❤️

16:07-16:17Richard took out Joyce's wooden thing out from her answer panel! XD
On this date in 1990, It's Garry Shandling's Show TV Series episode The Wedding Show as Charles Nelson Reilly aired.

Always liked Joyce B's voice. "I said tinkle!" 😊
I really thought with the word TRAIN staring them in the face, one of them would say Steam Engine, for the big money.
I thought that too.
maybe that's why i also thought of "engine".
why no soul train
100 episodes into the series and have yet to see two male contestants compete against each other.
If not his last TV appearance, this was likely one of them as this was the only week Robert Q. Lewis appeared on this version of Match Game.
Parakeet?! Wooden leg?!
In the same question with the coffin 😂😂 what in the world?
Ann is still probably coming off the Aqua Net high from that hive!!
I was just watching the new Match Game and it still doesn’t compare to the original one. I hope the New Match Game will be fixed a lot, otherwise I wish it was cancelled.
The host on the new MG is horrible.

Everything these days is vulgar. Don’t watch tv anymore.
Who else knew right off, when they announced Ian McPherson, that he was Scottish?
I knew he was a drunk. Not that there's anything wrong with that
Hoot Mon, Hoot Mon!
Man....Barbara is adorable.

Max had a weird sense of humor. He insisted on keeping his life insurance policy in his coffin
Now we have our first Scotsman as a contestant. Och-aye! 🏴
Good luck to "The Thistle" in next month's RWC2023
ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) Glued.. nailed! ouch! Robert, Brett, Morey and Joyce beat Richard! ;0) Peas! ;0) stark! beans! ;0) Wife! wooden leg?
Soap opera is on at 1...
secret storm... then young and restless...
Last week without Charles not as a regular coming up..
"Betty Cooker's Crockbook" BWAAHAAHAA!!!
for the Mickey mouse question I'd have said club
charay rogers i can’t believe they didn’t say club
My answer was "petting zoo" - no idea if they had those back in 1973, but oh well.
Richard Dawson LOL "GUARD!" "You hamburger..." "Get back!" "My place?" "The judge..." "I swear on my life!! Now that's not fair! We are in a delicatessen!!"
Panelists:
1. Robert Q. Lewis
2. Brett Somers
3. Morey Amsterdam
4. Joyce Bulifant
5. Richard Dawson
6. Ann Elder
I thought the Green Giant's _Giblets_ turned Blue...
Niblets. Giblets are the things you get with a turkey or a chicken.
I used to love those commercials as a toddler.
With the voice of Herschel Bernardi:
"HO, HO, HO!"
Where is Barbara today? What a beauty.
@mark shaw ur so funny.....not
She wears diapers and has gray pubes.
'His butt turned blue' was better than anything the panel came up with!
I don't know, Brett's "stalk" had me rolling! (I know she meant "wee-wee" by that.)
My immediate thought was "vegetables". I guess I'm boring.
I thought the stalk was a clever euphemism for a certain part of the male anatomy that you normally couldn't mention.
@@Echognomics101 Haha!
Morey is hilarious.
Christmas tree was the answer I thought of, it was a great answer. She deserved more matches than that. How could any contestant ever think to say, "The janitor's brother" (Morey's answer)?? Morey seemed to deliberately give un-matchable answers. He was an awful panelist imo.
Well he has matched about 20 times so far this season.. ;0)
COAT RACK
Gimme some Barbara! What a cutie...
Scorchio 😊
NIBBLETS !!!! 😂😂🤪
PEAS, GREEN BEANS, BRUSSELS SPROUTS
Right? Weren't those a thing in '73?
Canned fruit and vegetables were still popular... somehow...
Del Monte had the most beautiful 4 color process, with 3 special colors labels.
The inks used in the printing were brighter in color than the dingy looking products inside the cans...
Today I have been mostly eating spuds
Hi Barbara
The bottle blonde contestant looks like the Joker’s wife in that green and white striped outfit!!!
GIIIRRRRRRLLLLLL. 🙅🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Ahhhhhhaaaahhhhaa...yepJokers wife!
Sexy, mature woman. Seventies clothes.
Riddler's
Kermit's
The contestant, Beverly is stunningly beautiful. Classical Hollywood beauty!! ❤️❤️❤️
Morley is funny but Weird 😄
Dorothy Coker Morey.
get ready to align with the stars....would have been better
Funny, nobody picked black face?
Good-bye Barbara.
boy I think they slurped the mixed drinks and martinis during breaks on this show
Depending on who you asked they had one cocktail, except Richard for sure, at the dinner break to loosen them up a little but they were already a walking party sober.. Gene has said on the show he didn't drink because of a rotten liver but I don't know.. ;0) One staffer said they didn't serve cocktails at the dinner/lunch breaks at all..So who knows..
Ann Elder is gorgeous. What happened to women nowadays? They are crass and classless and undignified.
Why is Joyce even on the show?
You should have waited until the later episodes, otherwise, yes.
Wow..Beverly's white as a ghost! Just about blinds me on her close-ups!!
Jessica Bailey and she looks so sad
She has a stunningly beautiful face. Geezuz, why are women so impulsively catty!!
Sad to see the gorgeous Barbara lose.
The reason Richard Dawson wasn't married .... Lol. Anyways, I was married to a narcissist ... once.
match Game show episode 101
Think LIME...
Yuck.
Stellar Jay While Richard can be sarcastic, Morey can be caustic.
Richard laughed at Morey’s opening joke...
Really sick of hearing Somers talk down Jack Klugman.
You should hear the way he talks about her... But it was their schtick.
Beverly was f*cking HOT!!!
7th grade questions on this show
I didn't realize how weird gene was
9:49 Morey tries to warn Gene about being so forward with the contestant. Little did Morey know that was just the beginning of several years of Gene being sexually aggressive towards the good looking women on this show.
Morey’s jokes took forever
