What good advice from such an expert and a born teacher. What she says is applicable even to beginnings, this idea of not being too much into yourself, trying to communicate. It’s so easy to forget, when learning at the lower levels, that you are also trying to express something and have an effect. What she says applies to any activity in public.
Hey Nicky, thanks so much for the fantastic video series. Excellent tips and advice! I have been studying the instrument for 14 years with a former second director of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. Your videos are always a huge help and very valuable. If you still haven’t heard of anyone ever getting a sore muscle behind the elbow, you have now 😆 When I do much arm vibrato it starts to hurt and stays sore. In a way, it’s good because it makes me develop my wrist vibrato more 😂
I MEANT TO TELL YOU, I PRACTICED TCHIKOVSKYS PETER AND THE WOLF THIS A.M.FRI. 18, AUG.2023 WITH THE PIERRE GUILLAUME ROSIN AND EVA PIRAZZI STRINGS. ITS A GOOD COMBO.GOOD NIGHT NIKKI.😅😅😅😅
Thank you for a really helpful video. Violin shake is problem when I'm using a wireless swan neck microphone when I'm busking. This is partly solved by not having the microphone too near the violin and also ensuring that the microphone foam cover is snug around the microphone. Recording myself on my android phone makes me aware of how my violin sounds under my ear compared with how it is heard by an audience. Video recording myself shows me where the tension is in my body. (usually shoulder wrist and arm). Underlying all my problems is poor posture and a bow grip with the fingers too close together and pinky either not bent or not resting in the bow. I also have a tendancy to stoop which affects control of my bow. I've just replaced my strings and what a difference to the sound of my violin. Old strings seem to need more bow pressure which creates tension in my upper body and affects the sound of the violin under my ear and how it us heard by my audience. Replacing strings makes a big difference when they become 'tired' and dull. My new strings 'sing' beautifully. I'm now using Thomastik Vision Solo Titanium. (previously used Thomastik Vision Solo). Also, when I apply rosin to the bow I brush the bow hair with a small clothes brush which stops the hair getting clogged with rosin and sounding scratchy and rough) I bow shake when nervous, which I've discovered is caused by unconsciously raising my shoulder and poor posture.
This is about contact with the string. Relax and place the bow on the strings as if your friend lays his arm on your shoulder - the bow will not shake. I am not Nicola, but from Natasha - her teacher.
@@manomana5999 Thank you! I hope Nicola would not mind that I said this on her channel - of course she would advise much much better, but if she is busy . I had shaking bow sometimes, Natasha dealt with it fast. Nicola is Natasha's best pupil!
Thank you so much for making this video, extremely helpful! 😍 Would you be able to give us some tips in regards to dynamics and phrasing at some point? ❤️ (Also, I need to know how you style your hair! Lol! 😂 It's gorgeous!)
Hi Nicola I play thomastik dominant light guage (weich) strings but i really want to talk about shaking the violin during vibrato. I used to shake the violin terribly while doing vibrato and a friend of mine said " you are gripping the neck" He was right. i loosened my left hand on the neck. Problem solved
Hi Nicola. In Saint Saens Introduction and Rondo Capricioso, which part of the bow should be used to play the 16th note section right after the opening lyrical section? I'm using the lower half and can get the 2 on-the-string notes and 2 off-the-string notes at a slow speed. However, when I try to play faster, I can't get the two slurred notes to stay on the string right after the two off-the-string notes. I would much appreciate your help. Thanks.
Hi Nicola... I just love it the way you play... so soulful... and wow your gorgeous... Beautiful as God made you and beautiful violin player.... your my aspiration along with Maxim Venegrov...
How many hours a day should I practice violin in general and, vibrato in particular to,make good progress quickly if in starting to learn in my 30s? Thanks very much.
You have protected your neck with a cloth, between you and your violin who made it for you ?, and i am having some different issues in the same area, is it possible to get this same item.?
Hi Nicola, I was just wondering if you have any tips for keeping a relaxed right/ bow arm while playing? I find that if I am playing a long piece my arm tends to tense up but if it's a short piece it is okay and I can relax it. 😊
Please give me some advice on how I can release tension in playing this fast Presto? th-cam.com/video/05_k7hUzFH4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MeIAKWyEhJOCJsoF My left hand feels pain fatigue and exhausted.
I can't understand why so many people watch the video but just a few of them give 👍. It's the way we recognize the hard work done.

Good one "
Be careful not to give yourself chill blains from using warm water. I find hand warmers are very effective to warm up my cold hands.
When you coming to south Florida to play. And do you practice every day.
