This was my dads favorite game ever! Also the music in this game is what makes this game so awesome, it gets so intense when you hear the music getting hardcore!
After like 7 tries I finally passed this mission... On easy, but still, better than nothing :D During my playthrough: I built myself a base layout where death hands did not harm me, because Harkonnen shot them in empty space. Lost a construction yard nevertheless, but I'm unsure how, since there was no sign of enemies nearby. Enemy ornis were attacking my windtraps and barracks, so no big deal there. I achieved dominance in the middle thanks to a base with turrets. I captured Harkonnen and Emperor palace. Sardaukars are always fun to have, because for troops they are insanely powerful. They are of course vulnerable to siege tanks, but very fun. And I hated devastators through the entire playthrough.... Because three devastators mixed in a group of enemies managed to bring me some steady losses.
You can Assign the units. Select a unit, press Ctrl +1 and then every time you de-select, just press the number 1 to instantly re-select the assigned unit.
Just looking at that beautiful UI and gorgeous, coherent colorscheme of graphics makes me want to play this fucking game. Is this the most beautiful strategy game ever created?
@@radim22 HELL NO, out of all the CNC games this one looks the most pleasing. If you compare this to something like Tiberian Sun, its UI looks like an undercooked prototype mess (while I do enjoy the game overall more than Dune). Red Alert 2 improved a bit but there still is not that much soul in it, generic metallic panels with bright colors. Let us not even talk about the earlier games. Dune 2000's interface looks like an enigmatic machine from 1800s with gold and leather coatings that have been worn to shit by constant sand particle bombardment. Combining that with the gorgeous sprite work and unit icons, which are made using 3D but still manage to look like paintings, makes choosing the winner easy. There are not many colors used in this game, mostly dominated by the brown and yellow tones of the terrain. You can fuck this up but they did not, instead the outcome is like a painting where it is easy for your eye to pick up the important things while not getting overwhelmed by a visual diarrhea of colors. Dune 2000 is the Mona Lisa of games, just squint your eyes while looking at it, you could almost think it is a screenshot from Dune 2000.

@@meanmole3212Well a lot of people complain about graphics. For me what I found most captivating was the music and the gameplay. If the graphics was better, it wouldn't have changed the fun of playing. I think same goes for porn. You don't need HD. But it's refreshing to see someone actually liking the graphics, unlike many others.
Last time I did this mission, the mercenaries turned on me ! I suppose that just after they told they were neutral, one of my units accidentally touched them in a mellee. The funny thing is that while the mercenaries stop firing at the other factions no matter what... other factions do fire at them ! :P So, Atreides and allies quickly dismantle their base. I never noticed this before.
I just can't play so recklessly as you do) because I can't bring myself to sacrifice any unit! Everyone must survive! If any mess breaks loose I have to reload and replay, organising my units into batteries and retreating anyone who gets low on health. I take bases very slowly destroying first harvesters, then drawing out all defences by attacking turrets and retreating, and then take out turrets, and then slowly creep into the base) It takes 2+ hours usually for any mission 9) But I still enjoy watching you play and you fast paced style
This mission was very annoying. Don’t plan on putting myself through the hours again lol but if I do I would capture the Harokkonen palace and use the rocket to weaken their construction yard and a ton of tanks to get rid of it. Also spent to much time helping to defend the mercenaries. Honestly they don’t contribute too much. I applaud you for beating this in under an hour 👏. Also was trying way too hard with Saboteurs only for them to get ran over by tanks 😂
Ordos are very weak, but damn they have mercenaries.they can find the bases of the enemies.i won that mission by deffending the mercenaries base and making big army.the house ordos might be weak but when they have an army on their side they have big chance to win
Hmmm, had to decide which group to engage first and got confused a bit I guess. Can't do perfect run for 46 minutes and I chose game I played with fastest time. Also, when you run over those, they damage the tanks.
I had completed whole missions when I was 15. Now I am 30, I downloaded dune 2k last friday. I was failing at mission 8 and I found your videos. I handled it by your way and also did mission 9. now I am checking how similar to my play, has just finished. I don't understand how you control the units after deselect them. this is my main problem, I am loosing their control when I deselect a large group of units. making frame with mouse is not efficient enough.
Anyone else have trouble with the mercenaries randomly giving up? Iv had them leave after a single unit was killed and sometimes they have stayed even after losing a ton of units. Is it a random amount that they will leave by?
I always build like 3 or 4 refineries and like 10 harvesters in total, few carryalls then I just build various tanks, quads and trikes, starport orders all the way, and I just put like 5 or 6 turrets to every undefended side of my base, each defense line supported with like 2 siege tanks and 3 missile tanks. I do not use concrete, with much money I constantly repair windtraps and all other buildings and I have enough for replacements ;)

Yeah I have 4 arms - 2 for mouse and 2 for keyboard....well, seriously you should see koreans playing sc/wc, their keyboards and group spamming. And btw for ctrl+# I don't need a second hand ^^

IF you don ‘ t want mercenaries to turned on you capture there Refinery

You can group them with CTRL+ *number*, for example ctrl+1 for main army, ctrl+2 for base defence squad and so on.
0:54 you 're out of any nubishness charts. You could crush all the soldiers with tanks.

I don't know why but I still prefer look of the PC-DOS Dune 2.
Anyone else have trouble with the mercenaries randomly giving up? Iv had them leave after a single unit was killed and sometimes they have stayed even after losing a ton of units.

Ricki Cowin those bitches aint loyal
I Love this game, i have play this so many times :)
Excuse me in this question is silly... but does this game have anything to do with Dark Reign? It looks a lot alike!
I grew up with command and conquer red alert
Dune 2: Building of a Dynasty :)
This is badass. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Unit lost! My best sentence :)
@Reinc01 those are good for multiplayer, not singleplayer
why do you click and declick on mcv at starport before each orders?
Ordos: what is a friend?
Yeah, but Westwood forgot that in multiplayer there is no mercenary to help :D
how do you make a unit to enter a Guard mode without dragging your cursor to the guarding button ?
How did you record this?
I always get half screen when i put record to full screen....
@Reinc01 They are effective, but only if you play Harkonnen. Westwood did poor job for Ordos, Deviators are useless and saboteurs easily killed.

I tried to play this mission again recently and I did it in about 30 min with the use of only 3 turrets very effectively.
radim22 My dva si vlastně můžem psát česky :D
-Let me just sniff a bit of spice
-no, you know you become weird
-pleatty pleaahse?
-hmh ok
-ahhh yess... uhm... uh
-oh not again...
-MUST DESTROY HASSANS ELITE GUARD
your building will take damage from the environment, i.e., it will have less hp than a building built on concrete
