    Maybe try rice fish in the greenhouse. I get water snakes that eat my outside fish.

  • @Multiderek2012

    I’m curious if the white clouds in the greenhouse were housed with plants? I’ve kept white clouds in a shaded 30 gallon container pond during the summer for many years. They usually do quite well even with Midwest summer heat. This year I had loses which I’m assuming was caused by overgrown water mint and hot water temps dropping oxygen levels during the night.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they were kept with plants. I’m thinking now that I may have been over feeding. Now that they are indoors and more visible in an aquarium, I’m seeing how much they actually eat compared to the volume I was feeding.

    Great stuff ..i have been following your journey for a good 2 y now
    I have a question ..my planted tank can go on for months with zero nitrite ..i just worry sometimes if i should still replanish with waterchanges
    I see you also got some great root systems in your tanks ,dose that meen you skip waterchanges in general?
    Basically im curious if "old water " still has a decent amount of O² for the fish ,makes me wonder if we can get away with zero water changes .

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personally I am pretty relaxed about my water changes as long as the parameters are stable. When setting up a tank, I try to design it to be self sufficient as possible. Having lots of plants and fewer fish are 2 big factors. I still do water changes of 10-20% every month or few months depending on the tank. although a few tanks go for several months without it. Old water in a healthy system is quite stable, but old water in an unhealthy setup will not be good for the fish. It's a very controversial issue for a lot of people.

      @an-dreekosps9061 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@plantlifeproject it is a totally controversial topic ! Thanks for the feedback..i think as long as my Nitrates and Nitrite are low and zero ill make small waterchanges 10- 15% just like you said also considering my substrate is gravel and not "earth " i think that plays a role also

    What’s the top cover made out of? I have monstera adansonii mint and peace lily jet diamond, in mine and I need to run higher light for 10-12 hours and it’s giving me some nasty black beard algae. I’ve tried to keep floating plants, but they end up dying off, I have maybe higher flow than they can help. Maybe that will help drown some of the light.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Top cover made from double walled polycarbonate panel, 10-12 hours of light for riparian plants, floating plants can help provide shade for underwater plants. What floaters are you struggling with? I have found in my tanks that water spangles (salvinia minima) and duck weed can handle constant current movement but frogbit doesn’t. Is black beard algae causing real problems like growing on underwater plants or is it just not what you want it to look like? This algae is not a problem unless growing on plants, and if so, they need fertilizer. Otherwise it’s not a big deal. Often, people just don’t like the way it looks but it can offer a texture that fish enjoy foraging through looking for bits of food.

      @@plantlifeprojectI apologize I did not proof read any of that.
      I’ve used water lettuce and red root floater. I was thinking about trying frog bit. I figured the BBA was low flow, I’ve directed the stock outflow from the Fluval to ripple the water surface more.
      The BBA is growing on the plants, I actually like the look of it on decor.
      It’s growing on my Anubias, crypts and Java fern along with decor, along with my intake sponge and a few other pieces. It’s NOT growing on my Ludwigia ovalis or repens.
      I also did notice I believe staghorn or hair algae on my jungle Val which is in a dead zone flow wise.
      Thanks

    Every time I watch your videos I see something I really NEED. lol Your plants are looking really fantastic. I just used the last of my Aquarium co-op root tabs, they seem to do a good job. I got some Seachem Flourish root tabs this time, because the 40 count pack was more affordable. I'm sure they will be okay. I do like the co-ops products, though.

      Oh I forgot to say, if you want a little fish that can take the heat and the cold the rosy minnow is a great option. They are interesting little fish, even if they are treated like throw away fish by the fish stores.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for that, I’ve been wanting to try them out but wasn’t sure how long they would actually live coming from Petco. Every time I see them in the crazy overcrowded tanks they don’t look long for this world. Unless you have another source ?

    • @MandyJane123700
      @MandyJane123700 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@plantlifeproject Near where I live there's a Pet Supermarket, which is like Petco. I got 10 from there and 4 of them died by the next day. Then I got 20 of them from a smaller pet supply store, and some of them died, but I ended up with at least 20 healthy fish and they already made babies. I think you can order them from decent fish breeders, but I always feel worried about ordering fish. I don't know which ones are good! One store they were 50 cents, and the other they were 20 cents. I don't like when fish die, but at least they were not expensive (and would have died no matter who bought them).

    Father fish would tell you to add 1/2 inch of new washed sand slowly over the mum in that tank with the extra mum.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you referring to the neon tetra tank? I’m considering it. Especially since the roots are so thick and now growing upward. Over time I would have to keep doing that, I’m all for a deep substrate, but unlike Father Fish, I don’t really want a substrate taking up half the tank. But perhaps it’s inevitable!

    • @jonisolis9645
      @jonisolis9645 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I guess at some point you would have to redo the tank because of the amount of roots and sand is getting to be too much.@@plantlifeproject

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonisolis9645 this amount of plants would definitely be more ideal in a larger tank. My 75g is laden with riparian plants and there is plenty of room for the roots in the water and substrate. I’ll just have to upgrade from the 29g to a bigger tank….just the excuse I was looking for 😅

    The goal would be to figure out how bba is able to grow in such an obviously balanced tank...!!🫢
    Is your filter cleaned regularly? If not, clogged filters can lead to bba.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don't worry about the presence of algae in this tank unless it is trying to cover everything and smother plants. Despite popular opinion, I like some bba on rocks, some roots, etc., and don't think it's mere presence is a sign of poor water quality, or whatever. Healthy aquatic habitats have a variety of life in them and that includes some level of various algaes. It gives a more natural feel, I think and I knock it back only if/when it is excessive.

    • @rara5212
      @rara5212 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@plantlifeproject thanks for your answer. Just would like to figure out, what causes bba. As you said it occures in healthy and less stable tanks! Yet I haven't found a scientific cause in decades...!🤔

    • @plantlifeproject
