I catch a lot of bass with these especially in the spring I taunt them when they are bedding with it works wonders caught more bass than I could count one day during spring about 4 years back even caught the same fish twice it was really getting the bass attention and pissing then off

Truth brother! Beautiful jig Michael 👍 The link was awesome too, love that muddler jig, caught my biggest pike on a similar jig. All your ties and tips are tops. I have a set of parralel jaw pliers that I pinch the sides of round jig heads (works best on the softer lead alloys) to flatten and roughens the sides. Makes super gluing those doll eyes with the moving pupils easier. They rattle a little and if a large size eye is used they help keep the jig from rolling on it's side if you let it rest on the bottom. But my favorite jig heads are those tapered wedge shaped called walleye heads. "Do It" makes molds for that style as well as many more styles. (you could spend a lifetime experimenting!) I think they swim nicely for a latteral rod sweep retrieve I like to use. Thanks again Michael, you are a true fisherman!
Thanks a freaking lot for your kind words, Joe. And for the great tip on using the pliers for flattening the heads slightly. The ones I use in this video haven't any lead in the alloy - so they are pretty hard to shape without heat. But it sure would be useful on a softer material. And you are right... so many jigheads... and so little time ;0) I have finished shooting 5 additional jigtying sbs, that will be sprinkled out on the channel in the coming months between the flies and other fishy stuff - all of them with underwater swimming action clips. Trout tears them up, i use a nice little size a 1/24 oz. or a 1/32oz. sometime i do catch about 25---35 trout a day. Other times i catch nice size crappies with them as well
Couple things I'd do differently... Don't put the flash low like that to start, makes it more difficult to tip your jig with plastic or pork if you decide to do so later. Also, use thin super glue to seal your thread wraps. It penetrates so much better than uv glue. Then use uv as a finish for the wraps.
Very Nice color, tried following the layering of the different colors. Real quick does it much matter which goes top middle of shank and left or right of shank or bottom of shank? I love this color

Michael, do you have suggestions for vices. I mainly am tying Bucktail jigs so 360 rotation and parallel is a must. Not looking to break the bank, just functional. All I care about is 360, ability to lock at all degrees. Any suggestions?
Hi C S. I am not the best person to give advice on that i guess, since I have only used two vises for all of my life. One being a Danish produced vise, that is long out of production. The other, and the vise I use for everything today, is my Regal. It is perfect for what I do - all kinds of jig- and fly tying. But it is not really a rotary vise. Thanks. Well, it depends on the condition. When sea bass are hunting, as you already know, they aren't picky about the size of the lure. I fished from float tubes and kayak and used 1/2 oz and 5/8 oz heads, both on a 2/0 hook. If you fish from the beach, you might need a heavier head, say 1 oz. So it boils down to: how long casts do you need to make?

Nice video. What Vice are you using? I'm looking up reviews now to try to find one but am finding a lot of negative reviews on the ones I am seeing saying they dont hold up.
Thanks Rosario, The vice I use on this video is a cheap no name product. Kind of a Regal rip-off I guess. My other vice is an old out of production danish vise. Both works great for my need.To be honest though I haven't got experience with many of the brands that are currently available, so I really can't give you solid advice on that. Hi Peter, if your thread seems perfectly good, I guess it might be your bobbin (thread holder) that has some sharp edges. You can smooth out the mouth area of the tube by pulling a piece of wool yarn with some toothpaste on through the bobbin. Hope that solves the problem. All the best, Michael :0)

I've read in quite a few places that Duco Cement works best, and does chemically bond to metal. Haven't tried it yet myself though, as I ordered a lot of jig heads with eyes painted on recently.

Hi Mikelp. I use Loon UV Resin on this jig. It holds up ok, but if i bang the jighead into concrete structures like bridges, jetties a eye might work loose. If that happens i just glue another one in place or remove the eye on the other side. The eyes aren't rock solid fastened, but they make do. All the best, Michael :0)

Nice video. What Vice are you using? I'm looking up reviews now to try to find one but am finding a lot of negative reviews on the ones I am seeing saying they dont hold up.
Thanks Rosario, The vice I use on this video is a cheap no name product. Kind of a Regal rip-off I guess. My other vice is an old out of production danish vise. Both works great for my need.To be honest though I haven't got experience with many of the brands that are currently available, so I really can't give you solid advice on that. Thank you for the tutorial. I went today to buy the uv resin and uv light and the guy at the store told me not to use it on jig heads, as it would separate from metal. Is this true to your knowledge or after using the jig?
He told me to use 30 minute epoxy instead.

@@mojondro Hi Victor. It's a great tip, and it works fine on lead heads. But the head I'm using in this video is a lead free jig head - and it is so hard, that i can't make a scratch in it. All the best. Michael :0)
Why does my thread keep breaking after couple turns? First timer here.
Hi Peter, if your thread seems perfectly good, I guess it might be your bobbin (thread holder) that has some sharp edges. You can smooth out the mouth area of the tube by pulling a piece of wool yarn with some toothpaste on through the bobbin. Hope that solves the problem. All the best, Michael :0)

I've read in quite a few places that Duco Cement works best, and does chemically bond to metal. Haven't tried it yet myself though, as I ordered a lot of jig heads with eyes painted on recently.
Cool info. Might give it a try. Problem with some of the super glues are though... that they can discolor the eyes :0)

A guy around here used to make ONEIDA LAKE SANDPIKE JIGS but he's long gone. The guys that make them now around here aren't as talented or something. .
