In the UK, the issue some people, some MPs and the press were consumed with was whether a former footballer should be able to tweet his political opinion using his personal Twitter while being a sports presenter on the BBC (which was within their guidelines)! First world problems. And quite embarrassing.

I actually have a dearly beloved brother in Malawi. He lives in Blantyre. I hadn’t heard from him from 3/12-3/15. That was an abnormally long time. My sister called to see if he was ok and that’s when she told me of the storm. I prayed for him. Praise God he was ok and his home was untouched, but everything around him was destroyed completely. He had to dig children out from under collapsed houses with his bare hands. He didn’t sleep for 3 days trying to rescue people. If it touches your heart at all please help them if you can, many lost everything. 🙏💔

Oh my goodness, Cyclone Freddy is the longest recorded storm in history now. The path of that storm took a truly horrendous path once it got trapped, bouncing between the eastern shore of the continent and the western shore of Madagascar. This was similar to what happened during Hurricane Ivan once it made landfall over Texas and just kept doing clockwise curly queues over land for half a week, dumping millions of cubic yards worth of rain over Houston and the surrounding areas. Both of these are symptoms of climactic conditions exacerbating across the planet when global temperatures provide storms with more fuel through warmer waters that they develop and travel over.

I've just been listening to Jeffery Sachs and he spoke of climate change and the coming catastrophe. Malawi and many other countries are seeing the effects of that catastrophe which has already begun. Why should the poorer world suffer first from the environmentally ignorant sins of the richer world? Malawi's terrible situation will be all our terrible situations if we do not tackle the causes of climate change.

We have contributed, maybe not as much as what people think. Do your own research. There is very little unbiased research happening, because this is not so profitable. Climate change has been happening for millions of years, but cutting down forrests without replenishing and poluting our rivers and seas, also won't help. We need to adapt.

      @Always Have Strength & Joy,
Thanks for the prayers! However, my people, South Africans are alright - we were not affected by this cyclone. We are watching from a distance like you and keeping abreast of the numbers (thanks to these news channels).
The cyclone affected our neighboring countries Malawi & Mozambique (and Madagascar).
I know it’s confusing because they are interviewing a South African individual and they keep referring to these countries as Southern Africa. Africa is divided into 4 parts like most continents - South, North, West & East. So these countries are on the Southern part of Africa - thus they are called Southern Africa. It’s not the same as South Africa. South Africa is also part of Southern Africa. I hope that makes sense. The Lord will change that name (South Africa) - similar to Canaan that became Israel as we are about to enter into our promised land soon. Take care. May God bless you.

Here's a fun fact. In 2015 Malawi had the 5th highest rate of deforestation. Ten years before it was number two. Today it is number 12. WHY? The rate has dropped because there's not that much left to deforest. THEY HAVE CUT DOWN THE TREES IN THEIR NATIONAL RESERVES AND NATIONAL PARKS. SAY IT AGAIN...THEY'RE RATE HAS IMPROVED...NOT BECAUSE THEY'VE LEARNED BUT BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN SO SUCCESSFUL CUTTING EVERYTHING DOWN THERES LITTLE LEFT.
The UN has attempted to help stop this by creating new fuel sources for them. They won't use them. They've been given the resources to replant trees. They have a plan the will restore 4.3 million hectares of forest. Where the money actual going.
Thea area is subsistence farmers...why? For decades, natural flood events have washed away soil. The continued deforestation has made soil restoration nearly impossible. This will impede reforestation efforts.
He gave you the answer...they couldn't get people to listen. He explicitly says that. People in the communities shown build with packed earth. These homes are susceptible to flood damage...,there is no way around it.
    😮
In 2015, Africa Digest wrote a lengthy piece regard the jeopardy the nation was placing itself in by continued deforestation. You should read it.
The severity of the impacts from storms have worsened because of their ignorance and incompetence and the complete lack of understanding what landform change means and how it destroys communities.
These effects are the fault of the population which believes its still 1850.

One of longest lived no were near the strongest. These storms will occur in the region climate change or not. If this had hit some were like Australia the death toll would be minimal. They died because of poverty. It would not be hard to build community shelters for all the coastal areas. Blame politicians not climate change. But hey never let a good crisis go to waste.

You're right! Things like this are often caused by removing the vegetation trees etc from the land, dams and other manmade nature destroying "advancement"tactics!
Such as how dams stop the silt and nutrients from making their way to the oceans where they would have been the basis a massive food chains of which we are a major beneficiary! An Australian Institute by the name of the Mulloon Institute has been reviving water tables, springs, creeks, streams and farmland that had become desolate lifeless expanses into flourishing habitats and profitable farms! These tactics could be used to bring life back to dying or even dead rivers such as the Euphrates River and the Rio Grande once flourishing water sources no more though! Act now or we have all had it! That's if Biden doesn't get us all killed before then!

Why most of these who died were from Malawi yet it’s a landlocked country, yet Mozambique on the coast didn’t experience a disaster of such a magnitude

There we go again with the UN and the world community.
It's not that there isn't enough money but everyone has their own problems.
God will help the ones that help themselves.
Africa has to fix its own problems.
Africa has the tools - use them.

My heart goes out to these poor people. I know the talking heads and scientists are calling all of these disasters that’s happening all around the world now the result of “climate change” and/or “global warming”. Be that as it may, these are all signs of the end time… the “beginning of sorrows” spoken about in Matthew 24 of the Bible. To those who have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, I urge you… please do so quickly! God’s grace is still being extended right now and ‘whosoever will may come’ to Him and receive forgiveness of their sins and the promise of life eternal. Without His saving Grace, there is NO hope! … neither here or hereafter. May God show you His great love and mercy, I pray. - Rita
