  • Looking for help on ways to prevent horizontal drift without damaging the Ergotron Lx arm. I.e. I don't want to fill the pivot joint with glue and sand or something abrasive. Either a physical clamp or elastic bands are the best ideas I have now. Thanks in advance.

    How did you solve this problem in the end? Tried to insert silicone seals, rubber for example?

      I eventually got a 27QHD and it just worked better. The smaller size and slick plastic backing on the 20wsx kept sliding around my desk, while the 27QHD has small rubber grips on the back (near the base) of the screen that grip the desk, so it stays in place. I'll post a followup video.

    Just get the HUmanscale new M2.1 or M8.1, and you won't have this problem.....

    Hey what drivers are you using for your CIntiq 20wsx? I just got mine off ebay and the current drivers don't seem to support it in Windows 10 though they support the 12wx which seems odd to me since they were manufactured roughly at the same time. I'm hoping that after buying this that I don't lose driver support in a few years because I didn't want to spend 2 grand on a newer model.
    I did happen to find drivers that do work but they are older. The drivers I'm using are 6.3.15-3 and the most current cintiq drivers are 6.3.18-5 and the most current work on the 12wx.

      Vachel Shannon I am using 6.3.6-3 and they work on Windows 10. I also disabled all of the pen & windows ink settings (under Devices), which helped things immensely in Photoshop. Just turn everything to off.

      Sterling Morris Thanks! I feel like I should put the cash to saving up for a more current model after all the headache I went through with driver issues.

      Vachel Shannon I'm looking to get a 27qhd soonish, but honestly my 20wsx works just fine 98% of the time. Feel free to ask me any questions about it, since I've already done a lot of headache/work to get mine functioning with Windows 10.

    are you kidding me right? there is a screw you can tight and it will not move, read the manual :)

      @sterlingmorris2701  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My 27QHD doesn't have the same problem, I mentioned in a follow-up video. The screw you tighten only adjusts pressure just below the main pivot point. Either way, it works perfectly now! I assure you I read the manual :)

    If you have a problem still.. use teflon tape the kind for plumbing and get enough in there to cause the desired friction.. i dont have an ergotron arm but ive used that tape for other stuff that had issues with floating parts that need to be a bit more stable.. not sure how well it will work but its worth try...

    I don't know if you already got this problem solved, but what I would do is, either of two things, one, drill a hole on the arm and tap it, so that you can put a tension adjustment screw, or drill a hole through the whole thing, arm, and mount tube, and get an adjustment pin through it. You can get those at Lowes, or similar hardware stores. Or, I believe that there is a gasket that goes on that arm on the top, if you can find a thicker gasket that would give you more friction, just don't go too thick, because it would be hard to get it in, but the thicker you get it the stiffer it will be.

    • @sterlingmorris2701
      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about doing the hole +adjustment pin thing, but once I moved this to the center of my desk and mounted the much larger/heavier Cintiq 27qhd all of the problems went away somehow. I'm not sure if it was the angle or the mass of the larger screen, but it now moves or stays pretty much where I want it. When I'm standing and drawing it wobbles a little, but I only do this for a couple hours at a time to take a break from sitting, and only when I'm working on a looser aspect of an illustration so 100% accuracy doesn't matter. Thanks for the reply!

      Nice to hear, I just got mine, but I bought two to install in one poll. I am getting the Dell Canvas, and I got the Asus Rog Swift as my gaming monitor. You know that height adjustment ring that you tighten with the two little L wrenches? I bought extra ones to put on top of the arm to give it extra support. My Rog Swift monitor is also on the light side, so I had to weigh it down with a heavy piece of metal. You can't see it though because I tied it down to the arm right at the back of the monitor. Without the metal, my monitor would shoot right upwards. lol

      I landed on your video searching for a different issue with my Ergotron arms. In case you didn't solve this already, Ergotron makes a rotational stop ring for exactly what you're trying solve. It works perfectly. www.ergotron.com/zh-hk/products/product-details/97-774#/

    Hi. I'm just wondering, I just got the Ergotron Lx for my desk today. Did you try to adjust the friction on the arms with the small allen key?

    • @sterlingmorris2701
      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jamie Balfour - The Ergotron LX has little screws to adjust the friction at both joints, you are correct. If you'll notice in this video I have an LX HD Sit-Stand arm and a regular LX arm. The LX HD Sit-Stand arm (in the foreground here holding the Cintiq) has no way to adjust the amount of friction at the main pole, which to me seems like a mistake.
      I'll make an update to this video showing my current setup that is working much better. I now have a Cintiq 27QHD, which is much heavier/larger and seems to no longer suffer from the drifting problem. I also have the arm centered in front of me so the amount of angular momentum has been reduced to almost zero. Having the arm off to the left was a bad idea for a screen I wanted to draw on.
      My comment wouldn't post under your reply for some reason.

    When installing the cintiq, do you need VGI and hdmi input to connect to the computer. or does it need to only have a VGI output only for the cintiq to connect to the computer for it to work.
    I'm a little confused if you'll need a specific output on the computer for the current plugins that come with the cintiq to use in order for it to work.

    • @sterlingmorris2701
      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a Cintiq 20wsx, which can use DVI-I, DVI-D, or VGA connection. I don't recommend the VGA as the screen doesn't work as well if I remember correctly. Do you have one of these models? If not it would be hard to find one, it's a fairly old model. I also have the 27QHD now, which has even more driver issues with the Displayports on my GTX 1070 nvidia card.

    • @RetroFan2.0
      @RetroFan2.0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the computer plug in connection progress is what I have more questions about since the computer I have now is a dell 19.5 all in one touch and there is only HDMI & USB output slots & It's kinda confusing if I'm gonna need a double ended input of an HDMI/USB & VGI Adapter for the cintiq to work.

    • @sterlingmorris2701
      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the Cintiq you have is a 20WSX you will need a DVI - HDMI adapter, there is already a USB connection from the Cintiq. I'm not sure if a DVI - HDMI adapter even exists, let me know if you find one. If you have a newer Cintiq (22HD or 27QHD) they already come with an HDMI cable option so you should have no trouble hooking it up to your computer. The 27QHD will only work at its full/max resolution through a displayport cable, however.

    Hi ! This is really useful presentation , is it possible to fix the position/angle when you are working on top ?

    • @sterlingmorris2701
      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vincent Chan if you read the other comments the problem was solved when I moved the arm to the back center of my desk and mounted the much larger/heavier Cintiq 27qhd. The little pads on the back/bottom of the 27qhd provide friction so it will actually catch the desk. The 20wsx (shown here) is smooth plastic all around the back so it just glides off the desk and desk edge.

      Since this has a few people asking I'll make a follow-up video with my current setup and the 27qhd.

      Hi Sterling , Thanks a lot your answer . I am using the Cintiq 22hd one , Do you think the arm which is workable on this model as well ?

    • @sterlingmorris2701
      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vincent Chan i think it will work, since the 22hd is lighter than the 27qhd you may only need the regular ergotron arm thats only 150 instead of the $250 sit stand HD arm. I would get the taller pole and extension arm if you go with the smaller Ergo Lx arm.

    Hi Sterling,
    I've just got a cintiq 20wsx for my pc with gtx 1070.
    The problem is the screen is extremely dim and dark I can barely see anything.
    I've tried plugging it to my friend's Mac pro and it works find with nice brightness.
    It just doesn't seem to brighten up for my windows 10 computer. I've tried auto adjust on the menu, it adjusted and there was some good brightness and then it went back to dark again.
    I also tried various drivers including the legacy one that you mentioned in the comment but it's still dark. It's so frustrating.
    Please let me know if you have any solution for this.
    Thank you.

      Liem Nguyen Animation Does your PC have a VGA or DVI out on the motherboard? I would try the following : different GPU drivers
      Different GPU altogether (maybe the 1070 is bad)
      Try different monitors with the 1070
      What kind of adapter are you using from your 1070? Instead of auto brightness can you manually turn the lamp/brightness up on the 20wsx using the buttons on the back of the screen?

    • @LiemNguyenAnimation
      @LiemNguyenAnimation 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried another graphics card. It's still pretty dark. Other monitors work fine on the 1070.
      I'm currently using DVI-I to VGA adapter and plugged it into a VGA to HDMI adapter. I'm waiting for my DVI-I to DVI-D adapter to be shipped.
      I tried the GTX 750 and the GTX 660 with the same driver as the 1070. It looks a lot sharper but the screen was still as dark.
      My mate's Mac Pro seems to work fine when plugged in and I used his GTX 660 for testing on my PC too.
      For the manual brightness. It was at 50 and I've tried cranking it up still doesn't work and it actually look worse.
      Can you let me know what GPU driver are you using? I can try downloading it.

      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Liem Nguyen Animation i believe the "brightness" in the 20wsx menu (activated through the buttons on the top/back) only adjusts lamp, brightness, so it should look best at 100. Are you adjusting the brightness somewhere else? I'll see what drivers I'm using, but they're fairly current.

    • @sterlingmorris2701
      @sterlingmorris2701  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      VGA could also be your problem, my 20wsx always seemed to look best when switched over to DVI mode and using the DVI connection. There is a physical button on the 20wsx you can slide over. I'll make a video of my setup when I get the chance.

      Thanks man. I just got a tip from reddit. Tried holding up and down button amd pressed enter. New option in the menu popped up and I managed to reset the brightness. :)

    Have you had any issues with pressure sensitivity? I purchased a 20wsx and everything works fine except in all my programs theres no pressure sensitivity. And usually my programs automatically adjust to a tablet. I don't know if its a problem with whatever driver im using or if its a certain setting? Im sorry to bother you with this and may even figure it out before you reply, just can't find any info online and very few people use the 20wsx. : (

      BowsN'Bears a friend is borrowing my 20wsx right now and said the last Windows 10 update (mid-April) caused it to stop working, her pc wont recognize it. There was another windows update released last week that fixed my 27qhd issues with windows ink, maybe this fixed the problem with the 20wsx as well. I'll let you know if we get the 20wsx working again - not a bother at all!
