I bet that chest that glitched had the items in it that it later wouldn’t let you level, so the game is probably coded to say “player has received x of this item so don’t give them anymore” instead of “players item is at x level so keep giving them more”

I've definitely seen that bug before. It's a BZ bug, and it's super annoying. I think the first chest that didn't give you anything triggered it.
