I have been to Turkey many times due to my job. I was in Kocaeli. The city after Istanbul. I spent the best months of my life here. I fell in love with the country. People are very good. They love children very much. They are very affectionate towards animals. If you can be friends with Turks, you will be like family. They are very friendly. They talk a lot :) They live everything very intensely. A very emotional nation. I stayed in Turkey many times and finally I said I am Turkish 😄 Now my biggest dream is to settle in Turkey when I retire 🥲

What a lovely comment thank you for your kind words about us ❤ yes we are a very emotional nation and we live everything intensely lol. The reason for this is our long history and our past, we had no choice but to be this way. When I visited Holland I was shocked to see how people are distant and very individual. I mean they were nice but still I couldn't find the depth in the relationships. That's when I realized I needed to go back to my own country :) Kocaeli is a nice city, if you love nature, trees and water I recommend you to visit Sakarya, a city near Istanbul and next to Kocaeli. Most Istanbulers visit Sakarya for vacation. Sapanca has nice hotels in nature.

@@ananassucre5657 istanbul people are more individual than the small city people of Turkey but when it comes to European people and Turkish people there is a difference. They are not the same, not at all. In Istanbul, you can ask locals anything, you can ask for help either for an address or for some change to buy something. They are more open than Holland for example.

about the cats; it's really not about the religion or something like that. it's just they are a living being and we all know they need our help to live, to get feed and take care of their babies. they live in streets and we know they need food, water and most importantly love. so like any other living being that we would have take care of, we take care of the cats and the dogs and the others. 😊

I've been living in Turkey for over 23 years and It's my country. I'm from Sudan. I love the country, the people, and everything about it. Many friends around the world from Europe to Arabia and Africa wonder why I chose to live here and I honestly tell them about many things but you know you have to experience Turkey...Many people may have negative stuff about Turkey from the news and false history books and those might be some of the reasons people do not believe that it (Turkey) is heaven on Earth. I'm glad you loved many things about Turkey. Wish you and your beloved family peace and prosperity. Thanks for the video.

That peanut part at the end is actually a quite normal thing. We say "göz hakkı" which may be tranlated as "share of the eye". It means if you eat something in front of someone you need to share it because they saw what you eat and they might want to eat that. It is even considered as rude by some people if you don't offer what you eat.

@@YuliyaOkunkova There is this Turkish custom of offering food to girls and women in case they might be pregnant. As you know pregnant girls and women might get hungry a lot during their pregnancy. This type of hunger is called "aşermek" in Turkish. The lady at the pharmacy offered you her peanuts in case you might be pregnant and hungry. Usually people don't ask the girls or women if they might be pregnant, they almost always offer food to all the adult girls and women in case that might be the case

Just a small comment. You qualified the dogs and cats "homeless". We see them as residents of the city. They roam the streets, shops, restaurants, mosques, and houses free. In a way they have many homes and many owners.

@@kellysam2076 Nobody in Turkey hates Shiism. First of all, Türkiye is a secular country. Turks are not like Arabs. Therefore, there is no such debate in Turkey as you think. I'm 50 and I've almost never even heard of this type of thing being talked about. Nobody cares who is Shia and who is Sunni. Tap on the cream cheese if you want. Everyone will pay their own bill. These discussions are the debates of the Arab world, and therefore they have never found peace, and they have not been able to get rid of being the toy of imperialism.
Also, religion is the religion of Allah. He named it Islam, not Shiism or Sunnism. Why are you messing with this kind of stuff? Shiite, Sunni, hypocritical, who killed whom... brother, are you crazy? I have been reading only the Qur'an for 10 years without interruption. At first I tried to understand what Allah said and his religion, then I started looking at what people wrote. There, Allah says "take care of yourself first/save yourself". Instead of obsessing over the events of 1400 years ago, you live today, brother. Drop these stories. Try to be human. Or you'll be lost. As a Turk, he said from me.

Beautiful kid, beautiful face, beautiful or strong animal, flower, tree, mount, sky, sea etc.. This word is an expression of praise to the creator of beauty.. 🙂I don't know where you heard it, but what you said about dogs and cats were made up by someone. 🙂It is rewarding to be kind to all living things created by God as a requirement of being human. I was in Istanbul for over a week this past December and here's my take on the Uber situation - uber has failed to keep its rates updated based on the CRAZY inflation in turkey. I was shocked to see the Uber rates so low when i wanted a ride, but there was barely any driver. This happened many times. Taxi drivers have just abandoned Uber because of this. And for once, i understand them. That's not to say that a taxi driver wont try to rip you off, that's possible too.

And now compare it with Germany....They call the Police when you are in the near and holding a camera in front of them. The economy is not the best in turkey but the people are happy and always friendly as you can see. I am a turkish guy living in Germany and they don´t like us. I never understand this rassism. Why? We are all the same....HUMANS! By the way, thank you so much for this fantastic tour around istanbul

Thank you for this very positive video about Turkish people, but I have a small objection. Love for cats has not much do with religion for majority of the Turkish people, even if some people would claim that. In fact the cats are more abundant and well cared in the secular neighborhoods where people are less religious (such as Kadikoy, Nişantaşı, Harbiye, Cihangir districts in Istanbul). On the contrary I observe tourists coming from more religious Arabic and Middle Eastern countries seem to dislike cats and they do not even mind showing it...

I agree with you on this point. If it had anything to do with Islam, then you would see animals being treated well in Muslim countries and yet they're usually treated pretty terribly. It's a cultural thing that extends back to the ottoman era.

We also fell in love with this city because We came here in Istanbul last year in October 2022 for a tour and on our way back we were sad because we didn't want going back. :). Istanbul is so beautiful city, a lot of Historical places, delicious food, beautiful weather, transport system is very good, traveling in ferry, and people of Istanbul is very cooperative and friendly. It is the most beautiful city in the world (in my opinion). we were stated near Sultanahmed, amazing city. Wish to be there again :)
All the best Yuliya Okunkova. Thank You.

What a beautiful city, and I love the way they collectively care for the animals. It's interesting to see the mix of Europe and the Islamic world as well, I wasn't sure how it would be to spend time there as a non-Muslim. A friend worked in Qatar as a journalist for several years, and found it very difficult to be out and about as a non-Muslim, and especially as a woman, but Turkey seems like it has a different feeling.

Türkiye is a secular country that cannot be compared to Qatar. So you don't have to worry.

@Ruby I had thought that the president made it an Islamic Republic a few years ago? Maybe just Western media or social media being fearmongering like they do.

In Turkey its different. Türkiye is a modern Country. It doesnt seem like arabis countries. Because Turkish Republic's founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk made this country secular.

İstanbul had been the centre of commerce for centuries and ships from all over the world visited İstanbul.Cats traveled within those ships left the ships in İstanbul, so cats all over the world live in İstanbul now. Those cats are not homeless because they are wild cats with survival ability.

Hi as a Turkish, I want to point out one thing. We don't believe cats will go to heaven and tell God everything you did for them. In islam all creatures should be respected and treated with kindness because all animals and even plants will talk in the day of judgement. If you are good to them, you commit a good deed and if you treated them bad, you will live the same thing in hell. (The same things also applies to humans of course). We especially love cats because in islam they are considered clean animals since they clean themselves and don't poop everywhere like dogs. Regardless you can see stray dogs are treated well too. We like cats, dogs, birds all animals. (Of course there are bad people in Turkey too but then again they are everywhere around the world. Majority of the people here are kind towards animals is what I'm trying to say). Taking care of stray animals is a tradition dating back to the Ottoman Empire. Ottomans even had a hospital for storks who get injured during migration. So yeah, feeding stray cats and dogs are a part of our culture since the Ottomans.

yuliya did you know you genetically probably tatar/crimean turk cuz of your eyes shape almond and your hair colour and faceial shape. I am a genetic researcher who studies the reflection of genetics on physical traits. I can definitely say that you are phenotypically similar to the Turkics. Maybe that's why you loved and felt belonging to turkiye. :) if so let us know or i suggest you do some research on it
