    This video sold me on it. I can't wait to use it in my new songs. I love the features and the fact it has a vst accompaniment is wonderful.
    Great demo, this was well done and showed the best parts of it.

    I can't wait to get mine, i really enjoyed microfreak back then (before it having granular, sampling, etc), but it was always a bit tricky to go back and forth from MF to ableton and vice versa.
    Now we have a bigger boy, with built in effects, bigger matrix, and this VST

    More Reasons to Love The MiniFreak:
    1. Macros - modulate up to four things with macros controlled from the sliders
    2. Polyphonic effects - kinda hidden away but having an independent FX for each voice is dope (see th-cam.com/video/Wr6NzMJEBUg/w-d-xo.html)
    3. The Mod Matrix is the most flexible Ive ever seen on a synth (also on the Microfreak, MatrixBrute and PolyBrute)

    Nice video and I do like the look and sound of this synth. Could hear a slight difference in the vst version, particularly on the 2nd example, just a bit harsher, think it’s probably emphasising the higher frequencies a bit more which I guess could be down to the analog vs digital filter. Nothing you’d notice in a mix though.

    Btw, whats the name of the song of the riff you play on minute 1-1:10?

    Great review thanks, been thinking about getting this one for a while, Minifreak hardware seems to sound as good as the vst that comes with it, yet only has 6 voices while the vst has up to 12..

  • @wavesequencer
    @wavesequencer ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have it - it's a joy to use (except not a fan of the feel of the knobs), but wish they just made a full-size version with double the number of voices and a mod matrix pad like the Polybrute. Difference between the hardware and software - the hardware is more immediately fun to tweak, but notes cut out more easily vs the software version due to limited polyphony.. they did a great job emulating the filter otherwise. Really great they released the software plugin for hardware owners - great for workflow.

    I own the minifreak v and personally I found the presets to be very underwhelming. They mostly sound very primitive and barebone. Glad you found them to your taste 👍

    • @PatrickBreenMusic
      @PatrickBreenMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment, my friend! It's very funny you say that, because I'm working on an updated review to MiniFreak and I have a somewhat similar criticism. I do still think the presets are really cool, and there's a handful that I still use. My issue is there's 250+ presets and a lot of them aren't super useful for a lot of the music I personally make (pop, electronic, hip hop, funk etc.) Most of the sounds I use are presets I made, and I love those haha. Stay tuned for the updated video! Definitely going to feature your comment! Thanks again!

      @@PatrickBreenMusic I would love some showcase of your presets. I was hyped for minifreak as many reviews showed it as something with unique capabilities but when I went through the presets I wasn't impressed. I'm eager for a showcase of minifreak's unique sonic abilities and how they make minifreak stand out from the other synths out there.

    • @PatrickBreenMusic
      @PatrickBreenMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can definitely get some great classic synth sounds out of minifreak.
      However, I wouldn't say that Minifreak can mimic a prophet (a synth that is more than 5x the price of minifreak, that has a lot more controls, full size keys, etc.) Hope that helps!

    How come I never see a video of someone playing a killer lead on a synth? They are all too much fiddling with the knobs and not enough jamming on the keys. Are synths used for leads or are leads more a midi thing now? Do I just not understand synths? I want a synth I can jam on with an awesome pitch range but it's difficult to find a video of anyone really jamming out on a synth.

    • @AthenaEryma
      @AthenaEryma 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think a lot of synthesists these days are more interested complex timbres with relatively simple melodies, with the melodic part handled mostly by arpeggiators or sequencers freeing the operator to focus on adjusting timbre (“knob twiddling”). It kind of makes sense that synthesists would prioritize that part, as most instruments can’t meaningfully adjust their timbre during a performance which means you’re sort of forced to focus on melodic/harmonic content.
