I was at Brandon regional down the road from Tampa, I needed help and instead I was held against my will, in unacceptable conditions, there was another patient that kept walking into my room, disturbing me, then another patient shit all over my bathroom, like a poop grenade went off, never got cleaned for day and a half, had to have an outside source call in to get it fixed. The doc? Absolute shit head that literally never listened to any of my actual issues and blamed something entirely different. Gave me ptsd, luckily for me I had vacation to use or ide probably have been fired as well. These places are for human life, they are for profit, and it’s disgusting and unacceptable

I’m sorry…I had a similar experience as as yours years ago when my narcissistic mother called the cops on me to have me arrested and committed, all for telling her in an argument that she should’ve aborted me. The cops read my journals in the psych-ward intake area as I helplessly watched. I was yelled at by a female doctor to strip naked because I left my underwear on. I had to walk the hallways with my butt hanging out of the H gown for all to see. The bathroom had a huge gap between to door and frame so anyone standing there or walking by would see you going to the bathroom. I was accused of wanting to become a prostitute. I was given no food for my one night and one day stay. I was only released after a psychiatrist lectured me to stop giving my mom (abusive narc) such a hard time and being terrible to her. I had some suicidal ideation that I did not talk about with anyone (still do), but was really wanting to die even more after that horrible experience. It must be mind blowing how many other people share this experience.

Illinois nurse here. I am disgusted with how our Healthcare system and insurance companies function. They 100% do not care for your wellbeing. They care about the bottom line. That is why we never have enough staff. Don't let them lead you to believe there is a shortage of nurses! Many years of continued understaffing by management is causing nurses to avoid working at certain jobs. Nursing homes are some of the worst offenders. Not to mention the cost passed down to the consumer! My recent 6 hour ED visit consisting of an abdominal CT, CBC, CMP, Urinalysis, a 1000ml bag of 0.9 normal saline and a 1x dose of IV push morphine cost over 17,000$! Thankfully I'm insured! I have had the same thing happen to me. I was at Largo Medical Center - Indian Rocks campus, and a local doctor from Largo manipulated the wording of the conditions of my release under the Baker Act. I apparently was not ready to leave according to him. The local drug addicts and homeless, some of whom actually needed help, were booted in less than 36 hours. I on the other hand having insurance at the time, was kept for a full 5 days. The actual crazy in that unit was making me crazy. After I was discharged, the bill from the hospital to my insurance said I had a private room. There was nothing private about having some stranger stare at you from a bed 6 feet away from you. Making his body see saw from high to low, trying to make perfect numbers in a person that never has perfect numbers. They kept her for 30 days which is how long Medicaid would pay. She was 12. (I found out a few years ago that she started having sex at 11 and I still don’t know with whom). So I guess that was her issues and what I needed help getting thru to her about. But they were all about the money. Also, I found out just a couple of years ago that she had no idea why she was there. I feel like such an awful mother but all I wanted was help for her. I will never trust anyone like that again. Honestly if I had no insurance at the time, they would have kept me overnight and let me go. Once they take you to the "other" facility, you are locked in and nobody listens to anything you have to say. Two years ago I was wrongfully admitted to North Tampa Behavioral Hospital. The ER I visited misdiagnosed me with schizophrenia (which I never even met the criteria for) and I ended up being admitted there. I was actually experiencing something neurological and had two seizures before being admitted, as well as struggling to fall asleep at all for multiple days. When I had my third seizure at the behavioral hospital, the staff all accused me of faking it, despite convulsing, briefly losing consciousness, and even having a nosebleed afterward. They then used my seizure as an excuse to keep me for 7 more days. I needed neurological treatment, not behavioral treatment, but they would not let me leave and I felt like I was gonna die there. After they finally let me go I gradually recovered on my own without even taking the Olanzapine they prescribed me. Needless to say, I left way more traumatized than I was going in. It also left my family with a big financial burden and we're still struggling financially because of the effect this had.

Employees are trained in how to document just enough improvement for the insurance to believe the treatment is helpful, but not so much that they will say the patient is ready for discharge. I was inpatient because I had a breakdown after witnessing horrible DV and having to intervene- after I had left a similar situation 5 months prior. I was diagnosed as Bipolar. I was discharged about 7 days later. I asked for a neuropsychological evaluation to be conducted. I don't have Bipolar Disorder. I have CPTSD from experiencing Domestic violence. Truth is- MediCaid will only ever pay out on a primary diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia. Their justification is because these conditions require medication management. Imagine NOT truly having either Disorder, being gaslit into believing you do, and finding out later through higher level evaluation- that you don't, and that medications were never necessary, and were causing more harm than good.

My father was kept in a facility when he was found in a different state lost with dementia. He was there for 21 days, the limit on his insurance policy. As soon as that limit was up, they could not get rid of him fast enough. They would not release him to us until the 21 days had elapsed. It’s all bout the money.

The statement from the hospital must have been written by a politician or a cop.

There was a high school in Hancock NY that did the same thing. It was shut down after a federal investigation.

They did the same to a Family friend 6 yrs ago West Michigan. Pine Rest Christian hospital. She was only losing her hkmr,on the street. Not even suicidal. Just asking for housing help. They held her 18 days! Turned her out on the street, average cost I learned for18 days?About $25000. That $25000 then could have rented her a safe apartment for probably 2 to 3 yrs plus. She wasn't then nor now suicidal. Just worried to be Homeless at age 60!!🤬🤬

As a person with who had a family member go through this, I totally agree.
I had gotten a lawyer who acknowledged this to be true.
Justin Drach was the lawyers name.
