Just a quick thought on documentaries, there are a couple of really good ones on BM for reactors. I'd like to also recommend another absolutely amazing female Japanese band, Gacharic Spin, try Mind Set and Kachi-Kachi Yama (Official Live Video) @Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall, Tokyo and the Wagakki band Senbonzakura live, A mix of weston rock and traditional Japanese instruments, both these bands are proper next level.
Great suggestions. The maids will always be #1 for me, but GC has some stuff (like the ones you suggested!) that will also blow your mind. I'll add another fave Japanese band too, nothing like the others but great and that is Glim Spanky.
BAND-MAID gives me all of the classic, hard rock sound that I grew up listening to in the 1960's and 1970's but without the egos and attitudes. They bring pure joy.
I've seen Band-Maid at a festival. When you see 3 generic metal bands in a row and then they come out, everything about them stands out. Their look, their sound, their energy, and their joy. It's such a breath of fresh air. Their audacious stated goal has always been World Domination even when they were a bar band. They have albums called World Domination and Conqueror. Miku has said (in English) during live shows that they want to dominate our hearts with their music. It's working.
DOMINATION live was the 22nd song of the this 23 song set and begins with a segue that is the dying away of the last note of the previous song PLAY. At 3:34 - MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. At 4:13 - MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond! At 4:58 - Akane the drummer hitting two separate beats on her double kick pedals while simultaneously continuing the song melody on her snare, toms and cymbal. At 6:57 - a brief glimpse of Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern - pure class. THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond.
The feeling of nostalgia and déjà vu happens a lot when you listen to Band Maid. They have resurrected the best of the classic rock and blues DNA and use it to make rock song monsters! You aren’t wrong about the sincere love they have for one another. When you watch the documentaries and see some backstage footage you’ll realize they are 5 sweet Japanese women who just happen to be international rock stars. You must make attending a Band Maid okiyuji (serving/concert) a goal in your life. It’s more than a music performance. It’s an experience.
Watch 'Freedom' Official Live and see even more smiles from them. They are more than just musicians playing together. And that's also a big part of why we love them so much. 🔥🤘🏻
@@GaryHolloway-810 I know they already had something with sunglasses on their last US tour, but damn, take my money, I would be willing to pay quite a lot for an official Band-Maid x @RayBanFilms . 💰😇 And I'm sure they'd look good on the ladies too. 😎
@@phaeron I'm lucky enough to own a banana yellow pair of those sunglasses with the Maid bow. Incidentally i realised a pair of 1960's vintage tortoiseshell Ray ban's would look ultra stylish so i've already started on a picture. If you feel that Inter-connectivity from a video, wait until you see them live. Their banter between show segments is unparalleled. Not just a band, they're a sisterhood.
Thanks again有難う💛。 One of seven wonders of Band-Maid is Akane's hearty smiling throughout her powerful, high-speed and precise drumming that must require strenuous physical strength and enduring rhythm keeping😄
"She's so cool!" Kanami's master plan as a teenager was exactly that. She wanted to learn guitar to look cool. (She had previously learned to play piano from a very young age) man did it work!
Great reaction and yes Akane's smile is always there. The only time you dont see it is when its the last song of a tour and she's crying that its over.
Great reaction and yes, they they have said in interviews that they spend most of their free time together. Also, most of their songs contain a hidden virus that breaks down any resistance to their maid outfits. When you watch the documentaries, be sure to watch them in the order they are on the channel - Saiki, Kanami, Akane, MISA, Miku
A fun fact about all the guitarists gathering around the drummer, Akane, is they are doing Hengao. Hengao is the Japanese game of making funny faces at someone to amuse or distract them. The reason they did this was because the song before this "Play", Akane made a gesture with her drumstick and did something that made Saiki, the lead singer, laugh and forget one of her lyric lines. So the rest of them decided to get even for her and make those funny faces. It didn't work (never does). Akane never missed a beat, and just made a kissy face at them and kept on drumming. That's one of the things I love about the Maids. They have so much fun on stage with each other that their joy and energy is transmitted to the audience. I have been to two of their live concerts and enjoyed them immensely. If you are fortunate enough to attend one of them you will come away thoroughly impressed with their talent, professionalism, and cohesiveness.
You're likely having a Hello flashback to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". That visual dissonance between cute maid outfits and kick butt music is exactly what Miku had in mind when she started the project. And they are very close friends, that connection is genuine. The Ohrenje YT Channel has a series of bio documentaries on the band members that also covers how the band formed.
You are correct, these ladies have a special relationship with each other. Kanami is in love with Saiki, no joke!😂 Seriously tho, 10+ years together, all original members. Their chemistry and personalities (lack of ego) are a big part of their charm and why they've lasted so long. Check out "Endless Story" live from Yokohama, to see what their relationship to us means to them!🫶👊🤘
I was truly blessed to come to Tokyo in May and see the "Day of Maid" show. Although I have seen them in the states, there is no comparison to seeing them performing at home. Was supposed to come back earlier this month for The Warning special show but been battling a health issue and it just wasn't possible. Heart broken to miss their collab.
In the Yokohama Arena documentary Kanami says something like, "I don't know what the future is for Band-Maid but I know we'll always be friends." (I can plug the BD in and get the exact translation.) Thanks for the reaction!
Always enjoy your reactions, Johnny! Not only are the Maids best friends with each other, but also with their fans.I agree that the Ohrenje docs will be time consuming, but I think you will find that they will be well worth it!
I've watched you go down the Babymetal rabbithole, and it appears you've gone down another one! Best rock band in the planet, po! I suggest another side of Band Maid, "Daydreaming" OMV, next!🤘
Some thoughts as I watched your reaction. Firstly, I never consciously thought of this but the crowd shouting in the beginning quiets immediately when Saike begins to sing. No left overs, that we can hear of course. Oh that Japanese focus and precision. 😊 Secondly if you are going to watch the Ohrenje documentaries I suggest you go in order of them joining the band. Miku, with the initial idea of course, then Kanami, Akane, Misa and finally Saike. It just gives a good flow. There are some early interviews with the band as a whole where you see their individual identities. You used the word infectious and you couldn’t have picked a better word. They are infectious and boy, what a great infection to have. 👍🤟 Their stage movements and interactions with each other are so organic. I see other bands and it’s obvious that it is choreographed sometimes but I’ve never felt that with BM. I love how Kanami goes over to Miku for her solo part. It’s almost as if Kanami knows that Miku’s solo is not as flashy so goes over to help bring the attention on Miku.
"I've heard it somewhere" The Maids steal a lot from other bands, but modify things as they go to make it new. Thus you have the phenomenon where you'll be listening to a Band-Maid song where you swear you've heard it before, when in fact, you haven't. They're simultaneously familiar and new at the same time. Part of what makes the band great. The "connection" is real, yes. If you want to be sure, watch their recent video for their song Bestie.
