I’d like to take Ashihara karate but there are no schools near me. Quick question, how would you deal with a head height hook or indeed a body hook using sabaki?
you can email me at info@ashiharakarate.org or WhatsApp +27 82 369 6904 then we can chat For a right face hook we would step to the inside doing a L Jodan Uchi uke - we have that block in our Beginners Kata 1 - no bearing in mind that you are not in the blindside position, you would have to counter faster because of being vulnerable. assuming the opponent's R foot is in front - so left block, R jodan face punch, R hand grab neck, L hand that blocked kept hold of the striking hand, R inside thigh kick which should drop the opponent somewhat and into a R knee kick - from there you can either perform a back throw or a forward rolling throw. Should the R hook have been a reverse one with the R leg behind - the block would still be the same, but after blocking that hand, it would be easier to move behind the opponent or to take out his front leg with a cutting kick after having punched him, etc. With the body hook again depending on what hand it is - but generally one would be on the inside of the attack where Sabaki generally gets us to move to the outside. In our Shoshin Kata 2 - its the only kata we have that you actually move to the inside and you have to react to that. Hope this makes sense, but chat to me on the other means and perhaps I can shoot some clips to upload, actually have been remiss in not uploading some more.
@@ashiharakaicho : really appreciate you taking the time to answer. I already train in karate, I have ordered Ashihara’s book and have subbed to your channel where I’ve learned the basic concept. It’s because of that that I was puzzled about hooks but your explanation has cleared that up thank you. Osu.
@@jujitusuka my pleasure - as mentioned, feel free to mail me with any other questions. We have a FB group - facebook.com/groups/sabakikarate/# where you could also raise questions, etc. Many different styles are on the group so it can give diverse responses.
thank you for your kind reply - I know that I am useless, that is why I have over 100 clips of myself and students on my channel - I have no fear in receiving critique so that I can improve my meagre skills which after 40+ years still needs lots of polishing and training. But at least I put myself out there - maybe you can do likewise and then others can see or judge themselves, or is it better to hide. My motto is "Have Dogi, Willing to Travel" and that is what I've done these past 30 years or so having taught and trained in at least 35% of the world. So keep at it and maybe your kuchi waza will improve ... so sorry too lazy to see what it is in Chinese ...
@@ashiharakaicho Same style of karate but Hideyuki Ashihara looked like he could actually fight some people in street in real fight but Hussain Narker doesn't look at this point like he could really fight any tough ruffians in street. The difference lies in individual not style yet Hussain Narker might be more dangerous with a small knife in his hands as his body is soft but smooth whereas Ashihara was tough.
@@ashiharakaicho Also Hussain body is looking stiff and not physically fit somehow either he doesn't exercise with same intensity that he might have done earlier but his fitness is aweful for a black belt of his level in a full contact karate with hard contact fighting like kyokushin. Look at Joko Ninomiya his body ho he has still maintained it that difference in fitness will create difference in actual application of the fighting knowledge.
@@jhonsaxon876 thank you for taking the time to watch our video clips - I am sure it must have been learning some. Your comments is umm cool. Have we met, then perhaps you would have seen some of the scars I have from surviving on our streets. Now I am too scared to want to fight because beat the baddie up today and he comes back tomorrow to shoot you - the last time I physically had an encounter was over 20 years ago and then there was not so many guns in circulation with the bad guys, now its a different story. I love it when I read such comments and the person that does the mouth warrior bit does not have any video's of himself to be viewed. I trust that your body is hard? As I mentioned to another person, I have no fear in putting myself or students on video and in the public domain. Excellent techniques, I wish there was an Ashihara dojo in my town.
Thanks. Where are you based? Send me an email to Info@ashiharakarate.org

@@jujitusuka getting Kancho's books is a rarity at times. We have a new technique book due later this year - see www.karatebook.info
@@ashiharakaicho : will the book be available internationally? Specifically in the U.K. I’ve been to the link and had a look, it looks really good.
Awful and shame
