- Russia's President Vladimir Putin has been re-inaugurated for an unprecedented fifth term in office. He's leading the Kremlin for 24 years already. After the invasion of the Ukraine, Putin has become a leader who has become increasingly isolated in the western world. Consequently, the US and most EU countries boycotted the ceremony.
Catherine Belton, Moscow correspondent for Washington Post and author of the highly acclaimed book called "Putin's People" analyzes what the world can expect from the next six years of his presidency.

It may only be a third of the total population, however, better or worse, the west holds the bulk of the world's wealth. Counties like China and India don't pay the same premiums for Russian resources that the west did.

@@theChiral And their point is he's a dictator, and like so many dictators before him there is a period of instability after they die because it's a massive power grab that can easily lead to a lot of in-fighting. So mortality is significant in his case. In order to preserve his 'legacy' he must begin to groom the next in line, or what he's accomplished as far as extending Russian influence could become undone. Biden could pass away and his VP would assume power, not to mention the entire presidential cabinet still exists, and would maintain order until the next election.

Thank goodness that people don't live forever. There where many dictators who's only defeat came from age. Tge question will be if his successor will ever be as powerful as Putin is. Putin is making sure that everyone is beneath him. Hard for someone else to gain influence to take his place someday.
