@ When boq talks about the truth saying "oh youre not handicap anymore BYE" - and *spoilers* nessa steals the book outta elphabas hands and curses him to not have a heart....
@@jaredboudreaux4311 Spoilers technically she tried to use the spell book (idk how to spell it) to make Boq fall in love with her (to make him "lose his heart" to her), but since she couldn't read it she accidentally made Boq literally lose his heart, and Elphaba to save Boq turned him into the Tin Woodman
I like the subtle hints, because we all know the truth. And during "Dancing Through Life," I feel like Elphaba was trying to tell her "girl open your eyes and BFFR"...but Nessa shut her down asking for a fun night. Then, at the Ozdust, Nessa puts it together that Boq only asked her out of pity...you see it in her face. However, with the way that Nessa (as much as she loves her sister) has not been supportive of Elphaba up until now, I imagine that she is going to spin it against her sister one way or another.
Don't know why I just don't like her. Boq only asked her to the dance, after that she cling to him with talks about a relationship and feelings. lol. She also wouldn't stand up for her sister at the dance, when Elphaba was in that school going through all that bullying just to protect her.
Yeah, good point! She did nothing to help her sister even when her sister stood up for her. I thought she was more the true wicked witch, resembling her father personality wise. He was mean and I didn't like him at all.
Nessa literally told Elphaba to STFU when her sister tried to warn her. That's A. B, I actually think the movie having scenes explaining what's going on would have been detrimental to the movie. People need to stop with this addiction to having things spelled out all the time. The whole point of a visual medium is to pay attention to the VISUALS.
Yes!! She started to warn Nessa and is met with an immediate “don’t you dare say a word against the person who’s been tormenting you since you got here and turned the whole school against you.” I would have stopped trying then too 😅
It is not Elphaba's business or responsibility to tell Nessa about Boq. It is Boq's responsibility to be honest even if that honesty is hurtful short term. The longer term effects of Boq's dishonesty (and arguably that they influence Nessa's choices, tho she didn't have to choose wickedness out of hurt) are evident in the second act/sequel.
Nah. Nessa is her sister. If my sister knew something like that and didn't tell me, I'd be pissed. Real love means being honest with people even if it hurts them. If you have information that could hurt them if not shared and you say nothing, you are complicit with the person committing the harm. Should Boq have been the one to tell her? Yes, but he clearly wasn't going to. Not telling Nessa made it worse for her later. Would Nessa have believed Elphaba? Probably not, but what Nessa did with that information would have been up to her.
No I'd say most people would think that family should come first. That as her sister it's Elphaba's duty and responsibility to tell her sister something, even if it will hurt her, rather than her being hurt later on and the hurt being compounded, by the knowledge that her sister knew and didn't tell her.
Everyone knew he didn't love her so the scene wasn't needed. Also, she kinda had it coming after throwing herself at someone the minute they paid her a second glance and how she didn't stand up for her sister ever during all of the bullying.
Adding the scene would not have changed my perception of any of the characters. From he top of the movie you knew that Boq was a simp for Glinda and never had real feelings for Nessarose. Nessarose is fake as hell for how she acted at the school dance when Elphaba was dancing alone. Also at the train station I think Nessarose got a since that Boq did not like her when she saw the way he was looking and drooling over Glinda.
My dude, Boq doesn’t love Glinda. He’s a bitter Nice Guy with unrequited infatuation. I’m glad they left it out because the scene tries to legitimize his obsession with his crush on Glinda. Also Nessa doesn’t love Boq. She is in love with the idea of him. Boq is callow and can’t be honest with her because of his ableist guilt and fear of confrontation disguised as “I don’t want to hurt her.”
@ Really? I thought it makes sense to having it in part 2 because some feted scenes from the fist movie are reuses for 2ed movie film makers do that all the time.
I don’t really feel anything for nessarose, nor do I think there’s much tragic about her other than her fate. She seems to get on well in her chair, her sister and father adore her, she gets her mother’s shoes, no-one except a few punk kids are mean but elphaba always has her back by getting bullies and not giving her help when she doesn’t need it. The first boy that’s nice to her, she immediately thinks ‘right, you’re mine forever!’. She treats elphaba like an embarrassment and it makes nessa’s life so awful, boohoo. she doesn’t come to her sister’s defence when she is bullied. Nessarose will become bitter and the east witch who makes the munchkins lives worse because a boy she likes doesn’t like her back? And she curses him forever! Am I supposed to like this girl? I get that her spoiled attitude contributes to her change and downfall. She becomes the real witch everyone sees in elphaba. But I don’t see it as a tragic villain story. I don’t empathises more with her after seeing the deleted scene, it adds very little. We already know without it being said aloud that Boq is a good guy but just lying to save her feelings, we know it will only do more harm. That’s why they likely cut the scene, the subtext is there already, or they will put something similar in part 2. Her death doesn’t make me sad for what might have been.
In the book Elphaba and Boq were like best friends. And he didn't have a relationship with Nessa Rose in the book. He was just in love with Glinda the whole book
Because of how the movie was edited, this scene wouldn't make any sense, though, since Elphaba and Boq never share any moments together, and never get to know each other. So why would the two sit down for a heart-to-heart? It makes more sense that it was edited out.
There was a montage as well that was cut. In it, it shows Elphaba, Glinda, Fiyero, Nessa and Boq as a group of friends. Hanging out, so Elphaba would notice Boq's feelings for Glinda there.
Enough breadcrumbs were dropped without the scene to convey the message. While I would've loved more scenes, the movie showed Boq's feelings well enough to make sense in Part Two.
Another thing to add is that Nessarose was her father’s favorite child and her constantly coddled her. So in the next movie when she learns to truth, she won’t have the emotional maturity to deal with it. 💚🩷
I feel like they should have kept it in there in part one. But the director of the film said it broke his to cut a lot the scenes out which would have just as well received he felt...but had to cut that scene and scene where Glinda and Elphaba where talking to each other while they were on their way to the Emerald City, which would have given how deep in their friendship they really were as well.
Wicked: For Good will be Shakespearean / Operatic...buckle your seat belts. A new depth to Ariana Grande's acting and Cynthia Erivo will absolutely kill...so to speak it.
Originally, Glinda's higher notes are meant to act as a mask when she is being less than truthful. This is according to Kristin Chenoweth who originally played Glinda in the OG production. Thus, why we see her singing in these higher, operatic notes during any unexpected or obligatory critical or analytical dialogue she performs such as in "What Is This Feeling?"when she says "These things are sent to try us" which is a dishonest way to respond to the claim that she is a martyr. She uses these high notes to bypass character assassination as well as to distract people from the words themselves using her vocal prowess.
Somewhat related, I was surprised to see a fleeing moment where the 2 "couples" were hanging out in support of Elphaba, as if they were now a little clique. That to me undermined the whole subtext of Boq's obsession with a woman who doesn't know of his existence. (Spoiler:) When Boq finally is granted his freedom in the 2nd act, the most tragic part of his character is that he still thinks he has a chance with Glinda, who likely still wouldn't remember his name. I think this gets softened if we are to believe that along the way, he was elevated into friendship status with Glinda, which would have given him at least enough access to take a chance.
Not just this scene, but I heard there was one between Glinda and Nessarose that would have been good to see as well. I really hope they do a director's cut and include them.
I honestly dont hate Nessa, but I do think she’s spoiled and has a horrible influence (her dad) on the way she treats Elphaba when she doesn’t stick up for her.
Rude, that scene would have helped even Elphaba being the older sister does want to protect her but she could also told her before she left to see the wizard aside from Nessa seeing Boq's admiration for Glinda she also knows Nessa wants to be independent yet a fair warning to Boq was the nicest thing Elphaba didn't want to she hurt and have false hope. True Nessa is an adult and can make her own choices but having sisterly love for protection isn't bad either. When I was younger I was coddled (disabled) yet I was raised to learn realization and responsibly my younger sister always looked out for me and if I ever get hurt emotionally, physically or mentality she will become Mama bear I am them way. Yes we both can make our decisions but we always talk it over before anything could happen.
Without this scene part 2 makes no sense because it shows the only interaction between Alphaba and Bock so when he sees her in part 2 how can she say, "Bock it's me Alphaba" when they never show any connection between the two characters?
Um, maybe I don’t remember the show as well as I thought I did, but Boq and Elphaba don’t exactly have any meaningful interactions in act 1 of the stage show either. Boq is mostly hanging after Glinda and not paying that much attention to Elphaba.
I feel like Nessa gets a lot of hate that she doesn’t deserve. On one hand, yeah she could be there for her sister the way Elphaba has always been there for her, but Nessa is just as tragic a character as a lot of the characters in this show. Let’s review, (spoilers for act 2) Nessa was born handicapped and thus had to be in a wheelchair and was also coddled and spoiled by her father for her whole life, not being granted the tiniest bit of agency by said father or anyone around her, always being pitied for being in a wheelchair. She only had her sister for love and support but craves independence of her own and yet everyone looks at her as an invalid. Glinda only sets Boq up with Nessa to get him of her back and Boq only goes for it because he wants to look good to Glinda and one day win her love- which will never happen because she’s in love with Fiyero. And Nessa, believing she’s finally found someone who loves and cares for her for who she is and not because they pity her starts clinging to Boq with both hands and doing everything she can to make sure he can never leave her. In act 2 once she becomes governor of Munchkinland she strips all the Munchkins of their rights and make it illegal to ever leave to ensure Boq has to stay by her side. And once Elphaba enchants her shoes and grants her the ability to finally walk and stand, Boq believes she’ll be happy on her own because she won’t need him as much anymore and- in a startlingly poor choice of timing- decides to leave so he can profess his love to Glinda before she marries Fiyero which breaks Nessa’s heart and as realizes that he only ever asked her out because of Glinda and that their ‘love’ was all a lie. I could go into detail about Boq as well and how he handles this situation but that’s an essay for another time. My point is Nessa is someone who craves genuine love and independence and once she believes she has it, she clings to it with both hands and does everything to keep it, even if it hurts people around her. It’s an interesting look at what happens with a Golden Child once they’re on their own and try to navigate real relationships. And in the end she’s left alone after trying to use magic to make sure Boq doesn’t leave her, making his heart shrink and Elphaba saving him by turning him into the Tin Man, making him horrified and running off and leaving Nessa completely alone, “alone and loveless with just the girl in the mirror”. In the stage show, when they’re at the train station, Boq and Nessa come to say goodbye and wish Elphaba good luck but when Boq storms of after saying ‘I can’t do this’ in regards to his relationship with Nessa, Glinda gently tells Nessa that maybe he’s not the one- one of the moments of Glinda realizing that her actions had not so good consequences and trying to make it better. But Nessa just says “no, he’s the one. I’m the one who’s not right”. And that to me is just say a sad line and gives real insight into Nessa’s mindset and how she views her and Boq’s relationship. And in the end she’s used as pawn to bring Elphaba out of hiding so they can set a trap for her- which might I add is Glinda’s idea even if she never meant for Nessa to die and only meant to start a rumor or make Elphaba believe she was in trouble. That is truly a tragic end for her story even if she wasn’t a good person. I’m not saying Nessa is a perfect person by any means but it infuriates me how so many people just hate on her.
Nessarose is spoiled and narcissistic. Her father loves and spoils her while ignoring Elphaba. She thinks shes entitled to everyrhing and is worse than Glinda when it comes to her self-absorbed attitude.
She’s the one who turned an invitation to a dance into “we deserve each other“ greatest love story of all. That’s her fault, especially when she sees how BOQ really feels about Galinda and apparently still wants to be with him anyway. BOQ is at fault for using her at the dance and apparently marrying her in the future, nobody forces him to do that. When ELPHABA tries to tell him to tell the truth he somehow deflects to her relationship with FIYERO, as if that has anything to do with it. There’s no reason for him not to tell Nessa the truth. So the girl who was “not that girl“ actually is that girl after all! LMAO. The favoured sister is actually the biggest loser in all this.
This was a cute but incorrect way to explain this! Nessa Rose was an entitled brat, who hated being disabled, she never defended or supported her sister, she always had this idea that she deserved pity! She was most definitely the wicked sister!
Even if Elphaba tried to tell Nessa the truth, I'd say Nessa would just see it as Elphaba hating on Glinda and not believe her
