I really enjoyed the back story for Giyu Tomioka (Water) and Himejima (Earth), the confrontation Shinazugawa brothers, and the return of Tengen (Sound). I also appreciate the detail about the Ubuyashiki family. As far as growth... Genya confronted his brother, Kanao confronted Shinobu (Butterfly), Muichirio (Mist) learned kindness and patients from Tanjiro and he's clearly still growing as the Hashiras spar one another, Tanjrio and Inosuke found the inner strength to move the boulder, Zenitsu opened his eyes in battle for the first time. The corpse progressed as a whole for inviting Tamayo and Yushirou Also now we see what the Demon Slayer Corps looks like at scale, tanjiro has a new sword, there's a potential cure for Nezuko, and Muzan has been partially captured. One of the better training arcs I've seen overall. It feels uneventful because of the release schedule, not because of the overall story
I wasn't expecting any fights past training this season. I may have read the manga, but still it's setting up one of the wildest anime semi final and final seasons since FMAB
That’s fair! My co-host said the same thing and I totally agree that it’s setting up something pretty insane, but just for me, I wasn’t a huge fan of them just releasing a short 8 episode season that’s only training with a cliffhanger. That’s just me though, my co host was cool with the whole thing but for me, I think it’s hard to pass off something as “good because of what’s next” because stand alone, it was just okay for me. I’ll probably completely flip when that next season is out though! Haha Thanks for the comment! Would you recommend reading the manga?
@thegotspod If you do your going to spoil yourself for the show, not that its a bad thing at all. The manga is awesome. So far they have been almost 100% faithful to the manga and if the show does exactly what the manga does I think it's like I said before, it'll be on that FMAB level of what's considered a "complete well developed anime" that has everything you need to be one of the greats in the history books. On top of having literally the most beautiful animation that I've ever seen in my life that isn't completely hand drawn like spriggan, akira and old stuff like that. It may not be as deep as Evangelion or attack on titan, but as an overall anime that isn't a naruto/one piece length of story it's solid.
Of course it was successful. Season 4 had two primary goals, character development and setting the stage for the final act. It did both. There are a lot of players on the field. You have the 5 non-Hashira demon slayers that are strong (Zenitsu, Tanjiro, Inosuke, Kanao, and Genya) and you have 7 Hashira in the fight (Insect, Love, Snake, Wind, Stone, Water, and Mist). In addition you have Tamayo and Yushiro as well as the Ubuyashikis. That's a lot of characters that need at least some development before the final act. Not every season has to end in a climatic and conclusive battle. A season should simply set out to accomplish something - and do that as best as it can.
I’ll definitely agree with you on a show not needing to end a season on a big flash fight (even though this series is known for that) and i’ll agree with you that there needs to be character development, but I’ll also say that I don’t think this season successfully did that. Already right there, all this characters you listed received a few minutes of screen time and tanjiro would sometimes go through three people in one episode to learn something new about them and it seemed in a rush to get to the next character making all the the character-focused stuff rushed. I think if you’re going to have 8 episodes come out (and it’s all we’re going to get for the year) the pacing has to be on point and the focus has to be on keeping the audience interested in other ways, especially if the season won’t be action-focused. I appreciated the background on Himejima, he received a lot of screen time and we cared about his story but no one else got that treatment I think. My issue is that this season felt incomplete because it’s all setup with no payoff. A good story has a main plot point and some subplots that get resolved throughout as well and there really wasn’t any resolution within this season to any parts of the story. I get that this is all for setup, but it still felt a little bland overall as I’ve never really been a fan of training portions of anime anyway, so it might be on me. Just my opinion but hey man, if you were engaged the whole way through and you enjoyed it, good on you! Definitely happy that you got something more out of it!
I mean I respect what the author did she damn near took a filler and made an actual part of the actual story. I mean cuz honestly you want to know what made the animes of past better than the current ones as much as people want to trip on fillers they have fillers. You had something to hold you down into the Arthur get to the final season even with the anime. That's what kept a lot of those animes in the culture Zeitgeist because of the filler because of the movie that they had and a lot of these new animes don't have any of that to hold people over. So for Demon Slayer to actually take something that we would consider a filler and make it integral to the story was actually genius
Fair point, as far as fillers go, definitely among the best and while I’ll keep saying I think this have been tacked on to the next season, I definitely get that, from an executive standpoint, you can’t go two years without releasing something. I just think comparatively, it was much slower without a big push of the story (with the exception of the final episode) and just overall it was the same ride. But definitely respect for the work put into it and staying true to the source material for sure
Oh yeah no doubt, they are truly worked to the bone for these shows and the working conditions are horrible so a slow season for them is definitely earned. But with that aside, it doesn’t make the season more enjoyable. I think it could’ve been tacked onto the next season and they could’ve taken a few years to do the next one as well
Fine with it being a training arc just don't make it 8 episodes. Feel like if it was 4 or 5 episodes or even a movie itself it would of accomplished the same goal while also giving them more budgets for the next movies.
@@ifinsup6194 something more than just training? Or withhold releasing these 8 episodes and release them weekly with the next arc. Almost a slap in the face to the fans to release a super short season that’s overall pretty slow. I mean maybe I’m just not a fan of training portions of anime but a whole season to just training with nothing else is a bit boring to me. But no shade if you enjoyed it and was excited by it
it wasnt anything crazy but still better than the previous season with mini me running around😂 that arc didnt hit like tengens tbh or the first one even was better
Im really trying to find out what was boring about it? Like seriously its blowing my mind of how many people hated it when its legit a "TRAINING" arc. Im not going to spoil anything in the manga but theres a reason that they showed all those characters and backstories this season. Its one of the last times something good will happen in the series so ill leave it at that.
The issue, from a personal standpoint, is A) I’ve never been a fan of training sequences in anime, yes I know they’re important, but they get repetitive. But for every other season of demon slayer, there was training and then a resolution to that training with a conflict so it was okay. This was just all training and cliffhanger and now we’ll have to wait another year before we see any resolution to what was set up. Every good episodic show has a few an overall story or A story (Muzan conflict) and smaller B and C stories that are introduced within to be resolved before the main one. All the other seasons did that and the training arc, to me, didn’t present any smaller stories to be resolved. Just literal training and that’s it. I think it would’ve been much better if this wasn’t its own season and maybe it was released at the same time as the next season because by itself, it’s a little boring. If you’re going to have season with very little action, the pacing, character development and story has to be on point and I don’t feel that this season did that. B) i don’t feel like the back stories were all that strong with the exception of Himejima. There even some episodes where Tanjiro trained with one person, completed the training and moved on to another character in that same episode or had interactions with multiple characters leaving us little room to learn a lot about each character. And I mentioned in the episode that I don’t think using the argument “that this season is good because of what’s next” isn’t strong because I haven’t read the manga so I don’t know what’s next and what if something ungodly happens that stops the next season from coming out? Then that argument does hold up anymore. It’s cool if you enjoyed it, I know a lot of people did and that’s awesome! But just in my opinion, this season isn’t on the same level as the others.

I will say that if they spent a year of build up then the next season better be basically non stop. Otherwise it will piss a lot of people off.
Absolutely! It has to be full tilt or it’ll feel like a slap on the face for sure
The only stopping point from here onward is gonna be after Muzan is defeated. Nonstop action up until then
@@voltdesignstudios I think you might have a few slow flashbacks episodes but other than that it should be like that
@@bonedraman yeah, there's about 7 of those lol
I called it filler. I called it cash grab and ufotable made me eat my words. I learned not to rush to judgment with them.
