The mother failed to teach her child how to take care of her nails and did nothing to help her for 4 years, and now she's making comments about how disgusting it is ? Seriously ? At least she's bringing her to the appointment but damn
The "child" has access to Google, and has seen normal feet. This is clearly not infact a child, but a young woman with zero self respect and exceptionally poor hygiene.
@@soareal463 You're blabbering nonsense. Personal hygiene is not a gendered matter. It's something the parents do both, so they both have to teach it. They are both example for the child. If one of them is incompetent the other shouldn't be like "oh that's not my problem". You would be a terrible parent with that mindset. I was talking about the mom because she's in the video so it's relevant for sure. But for all we know the dad might not be here anymore, so I didn't mention him
Thanks Toe Bro for trying to save her from her mom. I can imagine how her mom may make it a habit of putting her down. Taking car of our mental health is so important.
My mental health radically improved when I cut off contact with my parents. Things that had been so difficult to do because of all the associated adrenaline and stress became really easy to do with the loss of the source of that negative stress. I didn't listen to the video, so I'm just going off the comments saying her mother kept saying disgusting.
Mom (or whoever was with this young lady) should have kept most of her comments to herself. Preaching doesn't help. This young lady faced her big fears and went to The Toe Bro, so hush. She doesn't need a lecture from you. The doctor was addressing those things quite well on his own. Congratulations to the young woman for making the right decision, and to the doctor.
I agree. I really do, but people can die from this type of embarrassment. I am glad the doctor told her whenever anything is wrong with any part of her body she needs to be more proactive.
I agree, but those kinds of comments are really useful to people who get into these kinds of cases. Harsh as they may sound, they can seriously talk some better sense into these kinds of people's heads. As another person said, this kind of embarrassment can cost a life. A harsh but truthful comment that comes from genuine worry, like those that often come from our parents can save their kids' life. Also, you have to take into account how frustrating it can be for your kid to have such a lack of selfcare after all the effort you put into caring for them, and this frustration grows more the older they get, as they should start caring more for themselves as they grow up, especially with basic selfcare like trimming their nails. It's harsh but extremely fair.
@@KyzenEX They are not useful to anyone. They're the sorts of comments that cause situations like this to arise. It's bullying, nothing more, nothing less.
@karen that is a female behavior that every man hates. >woman complains about man not mowing the lawn >woman complains some more about the lawn >man mows the lawn >woman still complains even after the lawn has been mowed *always* stop complaining once the person is working on it. Any further complaints are just you looking for an argument
Yeah well some people need to hear the truth of the error of their ways. It's called tough love even if they already know they still need to hear it from the right person in this case its the doctor telling her how much of a mistake she made
People serving "tough love" usually aren't interested in the love part of it. The doctor calmly and kindly explained what the girl should do going forward, while you know, helping her. That's as far from "tough love" as you can get.
@jezackr3500 Don't expect people to love you if you can't love yourself. The daughter has no self respect. She can't demand others do for her what she won't do for herself.
My mother is just like this. I can't even explain to you guys how nice it was to become an adult, move out, and go to my own doctor appointments. Even now, whenever I draw a boundary or tell her "no" she calls me a mean person.
Ask her why. Why are you mean just for standing up for yourself and having your own life? I have a mom like that too or should I say had. She was dismissed from my life years ago.
I get why the above person is saying that, because I would also want to challenge the person saying that to me. But my therapist has been encouraging me to use a "broken record" method with boundary crossers like that. They want you to engage in a debate with them because that gives the opportunity to manipulate the conversation in the way they want it to go. So instead of giving them more material. You are a broken record. You: I won't do blank. Her: You're a mean person! You: I'm sorry you think that. I still won't do blank. Her: Why not? You need to do blank. You: No, I will not do blank. And just remembering you don't owe justifications or explanations. It's been a huge help for me! It's just, yeah you can do as the above commenter suggested if you think it will help, just allow yourself to "give up" on trying to educate her if you need to.
People who can't handle boundaries set by other people are called narcissists. They are the most difficult people to have a relationship with, so most will go no contact. It really is the best way.
Totally unnecessary of her mother say the word disgusting a million times. I was waiting for the doctor or someone in the office to ask her to leave the room.
It sounds like the mother was frustrated that the daughter wasn’t taking care of herself. You can’t blame her for wanting her daughter to do what’s right for herself and her health. A lot of mothers probably would have dragged her there kicking and screaming before 5 years had passed. I know mine would have and I was grateful for every day that my mother was alive. Doing the right thing isn’t always fun.
@@Spilledperfume1 you’re both right, there is a happy medium. For example my grandfather was in his 60s living with my great grandma (his mom) again. He was depressed after a divorce and lost his home and job, every day it seemed like a war for her yelling with frustration at him. She was in the right and he needed to be better, however the added yelling felt less like a “you can do it, you need to” and more like a “get tf up” even though she’d never be that aggressive. It’s all about the understanding what’s below the surface. It’s hard, and sometimes there is no right answer. In my grandfathers case, he ended up passing away younger and still depressed. It was from heart failure and I’m sure induced by what he was taking to be happy. “Dying is easy, living is harder” -Hamilton It’s about working together and I have faith they’ll find that ground
As someone with severe medical PTSD her mom needs to back down a bit or she’s going to push her child away from her rather than help. She has definitely developed some anxiety from this and with pushing you can hear it gets worse. I just don’t want her to get to the point where I am and she’s terrified to even walk near any medical facility
Same... My mum used to do this and it 100% pushed me away... Now she got psych help and is my full-time carer who often actually fights to doctors on my behalf to get things I need because I'm too terrified to do so... No more pushing, passive aggressiveness or shaming me to try and manipulate me into what she THINKS I need. Rather than walking beside me or even literally protecting me from my own cptsd issues after we talked about what I needed when nonverbal etc, like she does now... Mind you it took me going no contact and then getting severely disabled(my chronic illness got so bad I couldn't afford to live elsewhere & needed full-time care) for that change. But she said me going no contact made her get the push to get help, instead of always the easy route & saying I was the problem. Hard to be the problem when you no longer exist & the problems are still there lol. But without her getting that help, I didn't have emotional energy to fight my PTSD on my own anymore, along with fighting her & have her push me deeper into not doing right due to triggering the PTSD too, & try & fight my medical PTSD etc too. & it made her realise even more when I admitted if I hadn't gotten bedridden from my chronic illness, she wouldn't ever have had that last chance (she'd had 2+ decades of chances by then) So most ppl won't get so lucky and the kid will stay NC, like I was gonna.
You're an adult. Stop blaming your problems on your mommy. If you can't function as an adult, then you need to be locked up so functioning adults can make proper decisions for you.
@VictoriaInamorati you realize that full on psychotic disorders can be caused by improper parenting, right? When you have a child, you're creating an entire person from the ground up. It's you that shows them right from wrong, how to take care of themselves, how to care for others and actually be functional. Being shamed your whole life for coming forward with medical issues can and will give you anxiety about those environments because that's the only way your mind has ever operated in those situations. Can all issues be blamed on parents? No. But this one most certainly can.
@@VictoriaReadsRedditand saying that someone should be locked up and stripped of their own decision-making autonomy is fucking disgusting. These issues require help and care to fix, not treating them as if they're completely incapable and controlling their life.

Podophobia is a condition that causes people extreme anxiety when exposed to feet. The anxiety may be so severe they will go to any length to avoid touching feet, and sometimes seeing feet. It's amazing how, just talking about something a patient feels is disgusting, like it's a normal every day thing, that it is, gives them the impression, that their bodies really are normal and you can see the difference in their attitudes in mere minutes. I love it! So many people getting so much mental health care with foot care
I can understand her leaving a health problem until it gets unbearable. I'm so used to not being taken seriously that I almost *want* problems to get big so someone other than me *notices.*
It gets more fun when you're overweight... they don't even look for the problem... everything is because you're fat. Broken rib? Lose weight. Got hit by a car? Guess you should've been skinnier. Eye infection? It's because your BMI is too high. Bad knee from when you were injured in high school and it is in your records? Still because you're fat. At least that one is plausible.
I don't even tell anyone my problems because I either get ignored or they tell me that it's not that bad. So I just suffer from my problems in silence.

I've been watching Toe Bro since his first year on TH-cam. I have never seen him be anything but kind and caring. He's handled cases from babies to 100 year-old patients with compassion and knowledge. There was one girl in her teens who came in and was deathly afraid of needles. Her friend who came with her was the same. They both screamed so loud that you'd better turn the sound down if you watch the video! They started before he even touched the patient. Jonathon handled them both very well. He does try to lighten things up with jokes, but I've never seen him be discourteous, or rude.
rofl holy crap - I was about 80% through the video before I realized it wasn't the patient who kept commenting on the toes in a deprecating fashion - I'm surprised Toe Bro didn't take her aside and give her a talking to. That's not alright... also now that I've noticed that I'm also hearing lots of the comments about leaving it long and whatnot... yeah okay apparently this is her mom? yeesh - no wonders she didn't seek help earlier. Poor girl 😥 - but very strong to keep with it, heal those toesies so you can apply a lovely roundhouse kick without hurting your feet 😁
I have the SAME EXACT problem. My big toenail, I have to keep it buffed down to keep it thin. Every three yrs or so, the nail falls off as another is growing beneath it! This is been for about 20 yrs. Playing sports you have damaged toes. And it’s short like this one too. I’ve been debating on having permanently removed. I don’t want to deal with that for several decades. When I can’t bend over any longer then I’ll have it done 😂
What a beautiful thing to do for someone. I am too squeamish for these kind of things (it's hard just to watch), but you are not only gifting her healthier nails but relieving some serious pain too! Hope she sees a podiatrist and gets to the root of that!
She has really pretty feet and skin, and not that she has you taking care of her, she will have nice nails, too. You are such a sweetheart, Jonathan, always so caring and reassuring with your patients.

This is why no matter how busy I get, I make sure I have an appointment every month or so to have my nails done (unless I'm at sea, then I try to make do with standard trimming for three months at a time). Its a great time to relax and not only is it beneficial for your physical health (nail health) but I also notice my Mental Health improves and I just feel better.
That looks a lot like my daughter’s big toe nails, she finally let me at it and it’s doing so much better now….her nail grew properly underneath the top nail that lifted. I would have loved to have taken her to you!!
Sweety congratulations for finding the courage to start this journey ❤. I thought you might enjoy this as you joked about checking the comment's for guys who fancied funky toes. I'm a Widow of many years who chose to remain single. Hubby was awesome and I decided not to push my luck. I have a wonderful Lab so felt safe and he keeps the loneliness away. Anyhow coming out of the grocery store a few months ago I started chatting with a rather attractive looking construction worker. What weakened me was the sweetest Irish accent. Anyway he asked for my number I thought what the heck a phone call can't hurt. By the time I got home 45 mins. later he had called 6 times and 7 more in the half hour I had been home.I finally grabbed the phone and angrily said I was sorry I had made a mistake and not to call again. He said can I please just ask you a question,I said go ahead. He had frantically geen calling me to ask if I painted my toenails. It was so random and creepy it literally gave me goose pimples 😮😂 Looking forward to seeing your followup video. You were lot's of fun. Thanks for sharing.😊
Poor girl, her mom is harassing her over and over about not cutting the nail. She said it was too hard for her to cut and it wasn't growing, how was she supposed to? Parents don't be like this mother; 1 teach your kids how to care for their feet, 2 check in with them how they are about once a month, 3 don't bitch them out for something they can't control.
What seems so simple to some isn't so simple to others. My mother taught me how to care for myself even as a young child in all ways. Not everyone has someone to teach them.
I’m so… idk if envious is the right word… like proud and envious of this young woman. When I turned my fibula into 4 bones one of my biggest issues was letting people manhandle my leg/foot (the break was really quite low to the ankle so they were wrangling my foot around a bit too). After surgery and I got my cast off I was terrified of looking at my feet/ getting into a position to take care of my toenails. My leg felt so fragile I just didn’t wanna fold myself up to trim them.
The mom literally needs to shut up. I understand caring about your child's well being, but that includes their emotional health. Calling your child's body disgusting is just insensitive.
@@Sabbathbloodysabbath666 if your kid gives you a mud pie and you say it's disgusting, they'll feel bad, so yeah it's gross, but caring goes beyond just physical health
The issue with calling it disgusting is: the young woman damn well knows that, and shame or other bad feelings like anxiety have kept her from seeking help earlier. Mental health issues can be very hard to deal with, and adding insult to injury will only make it worse for a person and will make a reappearence of this or similar neglect issues more likely (wall of shame paralysing her for example). I'm currently dealing with Burnout due to autism, adhd and depression, I know what I'm talking about. Feeding myself properly today was my biggest accomplishment today. If you've never been in a similar situation you likely don't understand how it feels and that discipline is not helpful, but encouragement and support as well as understanding if possible.
@@Kessik8I'm very happy to hear you managed to eat ❤ I'm autistic as well and the struggle to eat sometimes is wild. Today I went outside and bought some butter :D
My boss's thumb nail looked like this for years. It would grow up and outward and then would get so bad that it would start peeling off. The remaining layers that didn't peel off would get stuck then start piling on top of the other layers and would be annoying for him, because they would hang on clothing. It was also embarrassing for him, because it was horrible looking, so he would attempt to pull it off. After years of ripping the pieces of the nail off, he eventually got some pliers and pulled the whole nail out from underneath, so nothing remained. I just knew that he'd never have a nail again, but after a few months, he had a completely brand new nail that never grew wrong again. I was shocked.
I used to have very pretty healthy toenails. After my heart attack and them a hematoma in my breast, I can't bend enough to reach them. I don't have anyone to trim them. Such a relief to see hers getting proper care.
I had a weird accident as a kid that screwed up a toe nail for a long time. It went from looking like this and i hated it. I soaked it in freezing water for as long as I could and cut it completely off. Then, i filed it down to the soft nail bed, stopping before i bled. It grew back normal after a couple years of diligent maintenance. So glad i did it, but i hated it at the time.
Did her mother say “that’s DISGUSTING”? How dare she! What did she do to help trim these for her daughter? That makes me so angry. Telling her how gross something looks isn’t helpful.
the mother was being incredibly depracating and harsh towards her the entire time. it was honestly hard to watch! i wouldnt be surprised if her mother being harsh and cruel to her about her feet was why she has such a phobia of her own feet. its surprisingly easy to induce extremely harmful self conscious behaviors in your children, and honestly its so cruel of her to be treating her daughter the way she is
Giiiiirl same! I cannot stand feet, even my own. I usually try to shower and then have the tv on or TH-cam or something to distract myself while I trim my toenails. And then a thorough washing of my hands after. Wish you all the best! ❤
As someone who had a really bad nail infection, don’t be shy about seeking help from professionals. The earlier you seek help the BETTER. They will help you. Some people have problems with their nails due to other health issues. You’re not the only one going through it. Don’t let it get bad before seeking help, otherwise the healing will take a long time too. It’s a long process and requires a lot of patience.
She and Toe Bro did mention that it hurt her in those corners where the nail was digging into her skin. But the nail was detached from the skin everywhere except down by the cuticle. So trimming all the detached nail would be relatively painless. People-including myself- often just adjust little by little as a problem starts small and gradually turns into a much bigger problem. Lots of people are scared to see a doctor for any reason, especially if they’re not sure anything can be done to fix it. Like this lady.😕
These are the kind of videos I miss! Toe Bro trimming and filing nails. I guess now I know why he stopped putting out these types of videos . The nail salon is getting to do those procedures now 😢
So many people don't realize you can end up losing a toe or even a foot if you don't take care of nails. Everybody has phobia and things that gross them out. Feet are a very common one. If you can't take care of your feet yourself, for whatever reason, don't be afraid or ashamed to have someone else do it. A doctor, a family member, a friend, whoever. It is worth a few minutes of being uncomfortable to make sure you keep your feet.
I always thought my toes where not the best looking... NOW i can see i am blessed!😂 Binge watching Toe Bro can sure give your self-esteem a boost. I'm strutting around in thong sandals, sunglasses on, and big ole smile! 😎hahaha!
I just have to say, it's entirely possible she didn't just "leave it" like that for so long. In August I noticed pain at the base of the nail on both big toes, in October black stuff developed under the nail at the base and it started leaking blood and pus. I went to the dr and was totally dismissed and told to put zinc cream on it. Toenails have continued to separate from my skin but my drs won't schedule me for a followup. It's not always on the patient for letting things get out of control Editing to add that I regularly trim my toenails and wear appropriate shoes and it still happened
I was having gallbladder issues for at least 4 years before I finally landed in the ER. Long story short, by putting off going to the doctor I made a medical emergency out of something that could have been over and done with the first time I had a gallbladder attack. Lesson learned.
From what I found on Google this seems to be called retronychia. It's caused by repeated micro traumas to the nail like from poorly (probably too tight) fitting footwear. And it seems to be a new nail layer growing under the original layer... And it might do this many times depending on the multiple microtrauma's that happen to it. I don't know exactly how this works. But this is what I've gathered from a quick Google search. And now I'm suddenly terrified and feeling like I need to cut my nails short again lol 😆 I have the sides of my two big toes constantly curved down and then when my nail grows, it creates indents just like she had in the top left corner of her toe. And I tell you, it can become soon painful. I swear, if I could just soften my nails enough to get them straightened out, and then keep them in that position long enough to grow out, they might be able to stop doing this to me lol
I wonder if a big fluffy fleece blanket would've helped her relax... and a gag ball for her mum. When I'm anxious I get really cold hands and feet, therefore I shake uncontrollable and trying to stay still makes it of course worse 😂 So a thick and fluffy blanket solves 90% of my problems lol
I'm a 60 year old disabled veteran and because of my neck and back injuries I can no longer take care of my toenails. Therefore, I've been seeing the podiatrist and her staff for my feet and nails every 3 months! I did put it off for many years because I didn't want to take appointments from other veterans that needed worse than I did! I must say that the entire podiatry staff are fantastic!
My dad would grow some EXTREMELY THICK toenails; only on his big toe. He used to go grab his side cutters just to get them clipped down. On more than one occasion, I would get hit by one of his flying chunks as I was leaving the living room 🤬! Ok... that's gonna be my only gross memory to share with y'all for today! 😂

Ah, so thats why my nail started growing weird. I was depressed for nearly a year and didn't cut my toe nails. My big toe was so bad i had to cut the corner and pull the nail out like a splinter. It was painful but worth it.
So many in the comments failing to realize it's the daughter being grossed out; the mother doesn't even intervene much. At least she's bringing her to the appointment but damn
The "child" has access to Google, and has seen normal feet. This is clearly not infact a child, but a young woman with zero self respect and exceptionally poor hygiene.

@@Aurorya the father failed to teach his child, luck for the child that her mother pay to fix it
@@soareal463 You're blabbering nonsense.
Congratulations to the young woman for making the right decision, and to the doctor.
not like she said anything wrong, she was right. i wonder if her snatch is as dirty as her toes.
I agree. I really do, but people can die from this type of embarrassment. I am glad the doctor told her whenever anything is wrong with any part of her body she needs to be more proactive.
Amen, sista!

Yeah, that's disgusting😂
I’m pretty sure it was the girl getting the nail cut that’s saying that 😂😂😂
It was the daughter saying that about her own foot, she sounds like an old lady too so maybe that's why it's confusing
I wish that mother would stop fussing at her. I can promise you that’s a big reason she’s been paralyzed about improving the situation.
“Dying is easy, living is harder” -Hamilton

She needs to STFU. Plain and simple. My mother made my health stress worse. One of the many reasons she’s blocked.
& it made her realise even more when I admitted if I hadn't gotten bedridden from my chronic illness, she wouldn't ever have had that last chance (she'd had 2+ decades of chances by then)
So most ppl won't get so lucky and the kid will stay NC, like I was gonna.

Her friend who came with her was the same. They both screamed so loud that you'd better turn the sound down if you watch the video! They started before he even touched the patient. The issue with calling it disgusting is: the young woman damn well knows that, and shame or other bad feelings like anxiety have kept her from seeking help earlier.

Some people have problems with their nails due to other health issues. You’re not the only one going through it. Don’t let it get bad before seeking help, otherwise the healing will take a long time too. It’s a long process and requires a lot of patience.

I’m in pain just watching. How does that not hurt? 😮
No skin is attached to the nail it was stabbing the corners on her toe to stay on
She and Toe Bro did mention that it hurt her in those corners where the nail was digging into her skin.

It is worth a few minutes of being uncomfortable to make sure you keep your feet.

i thought my sore toe from walking in work boots was bad... I deffinately feel different after binging the toe bro as well.
It's not always on the patient for letting things get out of control
Editing to add that I regularly trim my toenails and wear appropriate shoes and it still happened
You might want to try a different doctor if there is blood, pus, and your nail is falling off.
Poor child 😢 glad you are helping her toe bro 😢

When the Dremel comes out you know it's serious
That poor young lady! Glad she's getting it taken care of now!
I was having gallbladder issues for at least 4 years before I finally landed in the ER. Long story short, by putting off going to the doctor I made a medical emergency out of something that could have been over and done with the first time I had a gallbladder attack. Lesson learned.
Great job! She did well! Just curious...why do nails grow in segments? Is it trauma?
From what I found on Google this seems to be called retronychia. It's caused by repeated micro traumas to the nail like from poorly (probably too tight) fitting footwear.
And it seems to be a new nail layer growing under the original layer... And it might do this many times depending on the multiple microtrauma's that happen to it.
I don't know exactly how this works. But this is what I've gathered from a quick Google search.
And now I'm suddenly terrified and feeling like I need to cut my nails short again lol 😆
I have the sides of my two big toes constantly curved down and then when my nail grows, it creates indents just like she had in the top left corner of her toe.
And I tell you, it can become soon painful.
I swear, if I could just soften my nails enough to get them straightened out, and then keep them in that position long enough to grow out, they might be able to stop doing this to me lol
🙄🙄
Toe Bro THANK YOU for your firmness when educating this girl. “Excuses” can lead to a true healthcare nightmare😒
I wonder if a big fluffy fleece blanket would've helped her relax... and a gag ball for her mum.
When I'm anxious I get really cold hands and feet, therefore I shake uncontrollable and trying to stay still makes it of course worse 😂
So a thick and fluffy blanket solves 90% of my problems lol
Jonathan could we have long video of you doing your part of video and Natalie doing her part please?
They’re laughing together. Everyone relax 😂😂
😂
I dont get it? Its like the nail grows the wrong way?? Please explain
I love him, “Gotta get back in there”.
The second toe looks the same!
He did a great job because I couldn't understand what I was looking at until he was almost done👌
I know that she is stressed
But we have seen SOOO much worse on your channel!!!!
I agree... drama queen! 😂
Has the young lady been checked for neuropathy? I worry that she's had what had to have been a quite painful situation going on for that long. That said, she and her mother were a joy to listen to. They sound like very fun people.
I have neuropathy due to radiation and I don’t feel anything in my toes , I have to be really careful because I have made myself bleed by accidentally nipping the skin
Ah, so thats why my nail started growing weird. I was depressed for nearly a year and didn't cut my toe nails. My big toe was so bad i had to cut the corner and pull the nail out like a splinter. It was painful but worth it.
The human foot will always be an enigma
So many in the comments failing to realize it's the daughter being grossed out; the mother doesn't even intervene much. The daughter even says at around 6:00 that she let her nails get like that because she's too grossed out to touch her own feet.
So, no, I don't think this is a case of bad parenting.
She only nags once about her not cutting it for 3 years.
