  • I was supposed to do an herb garden tour today but I wasn’t able to get it done before leaving for a few days for a family function. I did prepare for the trip by filming a few videos ahead of time so I am going to be sharing those over the next few days. As soon as I get back home I will be getting that herb garden tour done! 🥰
    This video was part of a request for a monthly food forest tour so you can see the progression throughout the summer as things grow and harvests begin. So this is my zone 6 permaculture food forest tour of my 3rd year food forest in June!
    I apologize for the rain messing with the audio for a part of it!

    I’m in zone 6b and just started investigating this way of gardening. Thank you for the video!

    The thing I most like about your food forest is the random planting. It feels so artificial when plants are planted in a row. The scattered feeling is more typical of real nature co-existing. I can tell that each plant was planted with your loving spirit.

    I absolutely love this so much! I just hit the 2 year mark in December on my new little homestead which is zone 6 and I have a decent food forget going, but am still working on moving things around for the optimal companion planting. It's a work in progress, but I have so much pride and love for it. I can also feel that coming from your video. Such great vibes! You are such a joy to watch

    Loved this episode. Your cut flowers are very beautiful and must be heaven to your pollinators. 🐓❤️🐥

      Thank you! The thrumming and humming of the pollinators in spring-fall is definitely loud and ever-present. It’s one of my favorite sounds!

    You and your garden are beautiful, you are growing everything I want to grow. You should grow black and yellow raspberries too, they are equally awesome. Serviceberries (sometimes called saskatoons) are awesome too.

    • @faehollowhomestead19
      @faehollowhomestead19  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will remember that about the raspberries! I have about twelve service berries in order right now that I am going to be planting between my lavender beds and the goat and chicken run, I am very excited about them!

    I had no clue you could grow kiwis in my zone! They are getting added to the list :)

    • @faehollowhomestead19
      @faehollowhomestead19  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my goodness! They are almost better than the tropical ones, the hardy ones are grape sized and have no fuzzy rind so you can just pop them into your mouth and they taste exactly like the big ones!

    I think your soil too alkaline for blueberries. Leaves is yellowish. I’m adding every spring sulfur

    Love your food forest, I have Shisandra too, it’s rare and hard to find. I thought Uva Ursi is same as lingonberry, but you have them as separate, I need to research it more

    • @faehollowhomestead19
      @faehollowhomestead19  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Uva Ursi is also known as Bearberry, they can be used as a substitute for lingonberry but they are separate. They look very similar though as well and they grow in somewhat similar conditions.

    you know about raspberry, 1st year cane is green and will fruit later in the season, 2nd year cane can fruit twice in early summer and late summer. after 2nd year you have to cut them all the way back. the water in your mic makes my ears hurt. reminds me of water getting in my ear when i had tubes. walking onion is pretty cool. asparigus.

    I love the food forest tours and can't wait for the medicinal tour! I didn't think you could grow almonds above zone 7. Do you have a hardier variety or is the zone recommendation a little more flexible?

    • @faehollowhomestead19
      @faehollowhomestead19  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have read that the varieties that I have will do well in zone 6, there are a couple varieties that go down to zone 5 but lose the almondy-goodness except for one variety that is brand new and for the life of me I can’t remember the name! I’ll find it and tell you as soon as I do!

    Meghan, I always enjoy your ability to connect oldschool conservatism with what's going on today while still staying out of MAGA. What are your thoughts on 'deep state' and Tulsia Gabbard being put on a watch list? Do you think it confirms what people are saying about 'lawfare' against Trump?

    What variety of pomegranates are you growing? Didn't think they'd survive in ground in zone 6

    • @faehollowhomestead19
      @faehollowhomestead19  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am growing Russian Hardy pomegranates but I am looking to try some new varieties this Spring and see if they over winter just as well. I mounded wood chips around their base the first year but since their second year with me I have given them no special treatment.

    • @faehollowhomestead19

      I use duck pond water to water my food forest periodically but that is the only fertilizer I use. It’s good strong stuff though.
