Thx for the usefull and clear instruction. Is it not a great shock for the plant when the plastic mist bag is removed at once? Should not happen in a special way?

Aloha, I watched your clip several times and tried to do a graft of avocado myself - used a really healthy scion and after 2 weeks, there's some sign of new "buds" coming out but the scion itself looks very skinny (looks like a lot of the moisture inside the scion is gone), is it normal? Is there anything special you need to do at the graft area besides taping it? Do you need to make that area moist? Many thanks!!!
Ok. So should i plant 2 mamey seeds until they are 1 meter tall and then graft one into the other just like in this video. Pardon my ignorance but all this is new to me and i want to have a mamey tree in my backyard. I have heard that if you dont graft it will take up tp 14 years for it to give fruits. Is that true ????.
Hi Adnan, Thank you for your question! We're so sorry for the late reply. Since parafilms are used to hold the bud or scion in position (as well as to seal the junction and cut), they can be pretty handy in the grafting process. You can also use a rubber strip or twine (content.ces.ncsu.edu/grafting-and-budding-nursery-crop-plants). You can also use melted grafting wax.(courses.cit.cornell.edu/hort494/mg/methods.alpha/ClefMeth.html) We hope that answers your question! Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with. - Fairchild

Hi Dr Richard, Thnx for the videos. how do we decide on the grafting methods namely veneer, air, cleft.... does it depend on the type of plants. Regards Ranjan
vaneer graft is better when your budwood and rootstock don't have the same size. On the other hand cleft grafting requires to have the same size on small trees. Cleft grafting method is also a good technique for older trees.

Hello, Yes - you can perform cleft grafting while the plant is in the ground. It is usually performed several to many feet up from ground level, in an established tree! -Fairchild Team
