- ESPN Speedweek's highlights of the Martinsville Busch Series, Late Model, and Modified races in October 1985. Also shown is a tribute to Richie Evans who died in practice. Like the announcers alluded to, NASCAR did retire Evans' number 61 in modified competition.

Wow - This video appears in my feed the week before the mods FINALLY return to Martinsville! I'm not sure what the issue was for all these years, but I'm sure glad they are back. It's a perfect union of cars & track! Twas never the same without you Richie!

Was his last race at martinsville?
No it was practice when he hit the wall before the race but the race had to go on. Mis them days watching Evans race my hometown driver the best of the best probably could have shown petty a tip or two was better than petty in his own right
I'm the same age as him when he died, his legend as the man in the modified series like Dale Earnhardt ,The King Richard Petty,and Jimmie Johnson are to The Winston Cup Series.
