I like my RRS grip with L-bracket and QD port. Also like the Match rubber cap and I don't use UV filters, I would rather make sure I protect the lens at all times when not using it and get better quality images. I use QD connectors on my shoulder straps or wrist straps..

@MichaelYoungKim a canon or nikon is very affordable and you can get accessories and still have money to go places to actually take photos.

Yes, I agree with you about protecting the lens rather than scratching the Leica lens. I use lens filter from b + w and I didn’t see any difference in quality of pictures. It’s always on my camera.

B+W is awesome and protecting the lens is the most important. Bought the ND6 from B+W as well. Can't live without the IDS grip. Just got my Q3 wrapped to protect it from Alphagvrd in CA

Thanks for sharing! I am still not sure about Alphagvrd at the moment. One day I will try them if I want to hide all my battle scars on the camera hehe.

Best of luck with the new camera, I have my name down on waiting list but i could not wait so purchased Q2. I loooked at the same leather case but went for the grip instead.

Good choice! If I think about it... TBH I couldnt have gotten the Q2 and save some money and have very similar experience since I dont really use the flip up screen.

thanks for your comprehensive video i thought the IDS Grip baseplate looks really good.
Agree with you, why buy such a beautiful camera with such solid materials just to cover it up with a leather case?

I very much enjoyed your considered decision making in what you purchased and what you now use. The Joe neck strap seems nice, but it looks like its got metal rivets and I wondered how long it would be before the camera gets scratched? I really much liked the baseplate, though I have opted for the Leica original because of wireless charging and therefore not wearing-out the camera's USB port or the battery retention mechanism. I've attached a Peak Design tripod plate to the bottom of the grip. This overhangs my wireless charging plate and it is indeed a shame that Leica didn't have an Arca-Swiss capability on their baseplate / grip.
I assume that the rope strap provides less surface area to your neck compared with a strap and therefore is uncomfortable in comparison?
As I chop and change between handheld, tripods and gimbals, the Peak Design stuff works well for me and their short hand strap is utterly excellent. The 'but' is that at the end of the straps themselves, the piece which the plastic clips connect to, has exposed metal on the back sides. i.e. a source of potential scratching, so I have covered these with glued cut-to-shape leather patches.
My two favourite accessories are the Leica Leather Wrap (yes it's ludicrously expensive), but it saves the camera from getting scratched when taking it out or putting back in to a zipped camera bag and the other is the Viltrox DC-550 Pro monitor, which when facing towards the camera's subject (me doing a talking-head), is simply brilliant for video work.

Thank you for sharing your setup. I do worry about the usb c port wearing out but so far I think I am ok. If the Leica original base had the arca swiss, it would have been a no-brainer. Does this mean you always detach the PD tripod plate every time you want to charge the camera?
I found out that the rope strap stretches, and when it does it gets thinner digging into my neck which causes discomfort.
Reading your setup you seem like you shoot a lot of videos with your Q3. How do you go about sound? Do you record separately since the Q3 doesn't have a mic jack?

    • @hamradioop5777
      @hamradioop5777 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@MichaelYoungKim The PD plate is permanently attached to the Leica wireless charger handgrip so it overhangs the Native Union charging base, but the camera still charges correctly. For sound I currently use a Zoom F2 BT 32 bit float recorder and sync the sound in post, with the sound recorded by the camera and then usually, delete the camera's audio when I'm done. 😀

You forgot the Rolex, Jaguar xj6, Italian shoes, and gold plated iPhone. You know other pointless stuff that people pay too much for that barely do what they are supposed to do for the price.

"not everybody can afford all the Leica accessories"?? If one puts down around 6000,- for a Q3, then one should normally be able to add another 500,- for the hand grip, thumb rest and Cooph paracord strap. That makes the Q3 pretty complete with high quality accessories. Now, if one can't afford these, then I wonder why one would sweat blood and tears to spend 6000,- on a Q3, unless one is so desperate to walk around with a Leica because it's a Leica. This is the problem with the Q3 being paraded as a luxury lifestyle item by a bunch of influencers.
But hey, each to their own. Rant over.
