I wish I could have been alive and around Dublin when Luke Kelly was strumming his guitar in the various pubs in town. I would give a lot to be able to hear his powerful voice belting this one out. The Dubliners have my favorite version of this tune (which was originally a poem written by Patrick Kavanagh, set to music by Kavanagh and Luke Kelly), but there are so many great renditions of it, including another one of my favorites by The High Kings. Just doing my own peaceful morning version of it here, but if you want your heart ripped out of your chest, listen to Luke do it.

oppressors can take everything but your soul this is where playing the spoons comes from the only thing they will allow you to keep in a lot of camps and workhouses a bowl and a spoon🤮 but gave them no choice but to emigrate and to spread cultures around the world and most of them are doing very well today

Hi Reina (or now Elle, ) That is a fantastic version of a wonderful song/poem. My father recently passed and his true love was "sad songs" one of which was Raglan Road along with may other Irish and Celtic ballads. I try to sing along as my father did with my "three" chords but cannot ever reach the beautiful way you have delivered this. Many thanks

Gotta admit, I was apprehensive clicking on this one. Love Reina and she's done so many of my favorite songs so beautifully before. But this is Luke Kelly's song and to hear anyone else but him do it is always going to fall a little short. That said it was still a nice cover of a wonderful song.

So many wonderful things in this video. First and foremost coffee and the beautiful smile of the talented Reina. Always a joy. There aren't nearly enough Sundays in the week. Wonderful rendition and great song choice as well. Thanks to YT I have spent many hours lost in videos of the Dubliners and also the Clancy's with Tommy Makem. While every configuration (with every lead singer) of the Dubs is a pleasure to the ears and the soul, none compare to Luke Kelly. We of course miss you Toni. i am not Irish either ( I am Scotish and Jamaican as messed up as that is. ) but i too feel my soul is in Ireland . was there in June for the first time and can wait til i can go back i loved Ireland.

That folk tradition is still very much alive and relevant here in Ireland. Lankum are my favorite of the current crop, they sound manage to sound both traditional and completely modern at the same time. Lisa O'Neill is great too.

Thanks Reina: Raglan Rd is situated in the leafy Dublin 4 surburb. In a recent poll the song was named as Ireland's favourite folk song. Both Luke Kelly and the poet Patrick Kavanagh were in the Baily Pub one night and Kavanagh approached Luke and said "I have a song for you". The rest is history. It's a story of unrequited love. Kavanagh fell for the beautiful student Hilda O'Malley about whom the poem is written. I would love to hear you try The Voyage by Johnny Duhan. Another great Irish ballad.
