Made at a time when childrens TV was sometimes way better than that made for adults...Children of the Stones was very unsettling plus the ending always unnerved me as they actually didn't end the cycle...
I saw "Children of the Stones" in the '80s, when it was part of Nickelodeon's "Third Eye" anthology series. It was very frightening to nine-year-old me. Good times... 😄 Other shows included in the anthology were "The Haunting of Cassie Palmer," "Under the Mountain," "Into the Labyrinth," and "The Witches and the Grinnygog." 👍
I literally watched 'Children of the Stones' again very recently - although low budget it captures eerie mystery perfectly, heartily recommended - I found all the episodes edited together on YT.

@@stuviewtv I remember Star Maidens from fist viewing in 1976 aged 7, it was shown on Saturday before Dr Who on Anglia TV and I mainly remember it for having Gareth Thomas Roj Blake from Blakes Seven in it as Shem and also for the theme music. I was shocked it never got released on vhs in the UK, and was only released on vhs in Germany. Star Maidens has been since released on dvd worldwide, and I have the dvd and also I learnt some of the locations and sets were used in other sci-fi series the sets were from Space 1999 and the locations cropped up in Blakes Seven. Star Maidens was shown in over 60 countries including the US but in the US it was not shown in 13 episodes but as a 2 part feature film with most of Gareth Thomas Shems bits cut out of the film.
I watched all of these when they were originally aired at the time with the exception of Star Maidens which I watched in the last 2 to 3 years. I will have to go searching for Time Express on TH-cam as I remember watching it on BBC One on a Thursday night if I memory serves. Always wanted to rewatch it but never have. I was fortunate to live in a region that showed Star Maidens - which had cracking theme music. And Star Fleet I still watch about once a year. There is a Bluray version that includes the original Japanese version as well as the UK dubbed edit. The 70s seemed to excel at spooky kids dramas - Carries War, The Changes, Lizzie Dripping, Nobodys. House and the Georgian House.
Oh yea Carries war, that was good, sure I read the book, and the Georgan house was good too, and children of the stones, I rewatched it recently on youtube.

Another great video well done 😊 I was in the same class at school as one of the Tripods actors. I loved the invisible man, ooo I will look for the invisible man DVD thanks for the tip ! As for scary shows, one called " The Changes" has stuck in my mind ever since. I can't remember if you have already done a video on this ( I think you have). but I found it on DVD ! Keep up the fantastic videos 😊
i remember watching man from atlantis and starfleet when i was a kid and i had completely forgotten about the invisible man, thanks for jogging my memory
I think I saw at least an episode or two five of these shows. Tripods aired on pbs at time when not only was I reading the novels, but a comic adaption was running in Boy's Life magazine, so I tried to stay up late on Fridays to watch it.
I remember Planet of the Apes and Man from Atlantis, very popular at the time. Roddy McDowall, as Galen, was quite a big star around then. I vaguely remember The Invisible Man and also Gemini Man, Tripods and Children of the Stones. Most of the others are lost on me. I wish I'd got to see Star Maidens, it looks interesting. My mum probably wanted to watch something on another channel though, so that was that! Battlestar Galactica was another sci-fi series I remember from that era, 1978 I think.
I almost included Battlestar Galactica in this one but wasn't sure whether it was forgotten enough. Maybe I'll include it in a follow up video. Thanks as always Carole!
Roddy went on to play Peter Vincent in fright night in which his character was a homage to Peter Cushing and Vincent price according to director Tom Holland not to be confused with the spider-man actor with the same name.
I’ve got the Automan dvd’s. Definitely remember The Man From Atlantis, The Invisible Man and The Tripods. Quatermass used to frighten my Mum, (the first time round) so I wasn’t allowed to watch it in the 70’s. The others are a complete mystery. You know the phrase ‘if you can’t remember the 60’s, you weren’t there’? I’m seriously considering apply that to myself in the 70’s! 😱🤣
Hello Stu, thank you for another amazing video, what an education. Some of these shows I have never heard of, but was cool to see & learn about them. There are some programmes that I do recall, but haven't thought of in donkey's years, like ' Automan' & ' Time Express'. I really wish that ' Time Express' would have been a success, it was a great concept & since I was a boy I have always liked anything with actor Vincent Price in it. " Children Of The Stones" I watched on TH-cam about 10 years back, even as an adult it was disturbing. I am sure ' Children Of The Stones ' was broadcast on CBC Canada, I never saw it back i the day, but I remember reading controversial reviews about it, when I was a teen. I loved 'Tripods'. In 1985 the Vancouver British Columbia " Knowledge Network" had " Tripods' on late afternoons, after school programming I guess. I had my first VHS recorder / player then, so while I was at work, the VHS machine recorded 'Tripods'. Also on "The Knowledge Network", after ' Tripods', I taped the first season of 'Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends' when ex- Beatle Ringo was the narrator, & some UK show that I can't recall the name of, about a teenage boy & girl helping some old codger to revive a steam train on some down on it's luck heritage railway. Anyone remember what that series was called, jeez, I can' t think of it's name almost 40 + years later. Anyway, sorry to ramble on. Thanks Stu for your fabulous & nostalgic videos. From your #1 fan in British Columbia, Canada.
Hi Greg! Many thanks once more for your kind comments. I was just thinking about the TV show with the steam train that you are trying to think of. It sounds like it could be The Flockton Flyer?
I remember having nightmares about Planet of the Apes when I was little. I did like Tripods, though. My brother had introduced me to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds and I thought it was an extension of that 🤣
That was a quick 15 mins, I remember most of them apart from Automan, Star Fleet and Star Maidens.. I am jealous of your TV as mine only had 4 buttons... lol
I remember watching Planet of the Apes on a Saturday just before the mobile shop would come round. Then my mother would send me out to buy two pounds of potatoes etc and I could buy a 2p bar of Dairy Milk chocolate. Some of the other shows I watched and would only see one or two episodes before getting bored. Never saw Children of the Stones though.
I've asked quite a few people I've known through the years if they ever watched The Invisible Man with David McCallum, but no-one had ever even heard of it. I thought I imagined it until I got the internet 10 years ago and looked it up. LOL
I bought the Star Fleet box set several years ago just to watch the epic final fight between Lamia and the Imperial Master. Used to love watching this show as a child.. even if Commander Makara’s Captain Orion was totally incompetent 🤣 “By your divine guidance!”
Man from Atlantis was very 😎 cool. I was born late in 65 so I was old enough to have watched all of these shows. However I don't remember most. Probably due to lack of availability in my area.
Hi Stu, great stuff, but I say most people remember these if you was born in the 60/70s . I Evan got on dvd Planet of the Apes Children of the stones Quatermass 4 and Tripods. Remember we only had 2/3 channels. But thank you for showing this.
I remember being very concerned as a kid that in his experiments the invisible man used a rabbit to test his machine but it was never referred to again. Canonically there was an invisible rabbit hopping around somewhere. Should have been a spin-off series
I remember most of these. Star fleet looked nothing like a Gerry Anderson production the pupoets were inferior to his. Tripods for me was always a poormsns War of the worlds so I took little interst in it after watching the first couple of episodes. The invisible man was a favourite of mine. I will have to look at Time express never saw this before. All in all another quality video thank you.
Awww all of these are still very much near and dear to my heart and I have most of them on dvd , their exceptions being I don’t think I’ve ever actually watched a full episode of the man from Atlantis I guess because Not offered it to be repeated… but super excited to hear about the time express I’ve never heard of that before so I will definitely be hunting those down that sounds great fun 😊
For years I tried to remember the title of 'Time Express' and would try and jog the memory of my friends in pre-internet days. "A bit like Fantasy Island, but with a train, " I would ask them. I was surprised to learn it only ran for four episodes.

I actually found the soundtrack to Star Maidens on CD a few years back - what a weird series! But I loved the music! Why we got two very different Invisible Man TV series in the 70s, I will never know, but the 50s British TV series was better than both of them combined. The special effects were good, and they never revealed who played the Invisible One until two decades later. Love it. I actually loved Automan. It was an interesting high-tech cop series, and it didn't forget to have a good sense of humor. Still, Desi Arnaz Jr?
Your theme tune at the beginning of your videos is the Southern TV channel theme tune. Channel 10 was Southern, from Maidstone on VHF. Channel 11 was Southern, from Southampton on VHS. Well done on selecting channel 10 on your TV that surrounds the videos. Although VHF was only in black and white in the UK and your video is in colour.

Time express remember quite clearly -it like fantasy island another price vehicle. The underatated tv series of POTA was really on the most part much better than given credit for. The flawed but still excellent Quatermass (conclusion) was and id a seismic tv series fpr me as although far too young to have seen original versions of earlier series i had seen the film versions of quautermass and liked and both entertained and liked Kneales often bleak view of mankinds history and future.
Many thanks Greg. I haven't featured The Changes in a video yet but I will definitely add it to my list.
@@stuviewtv woohoo :)
Invisible Man is also on blu ray, but avoid the single disk set which was never recalled!
AUTOMAN Caught on with US! we loved it!
I miss and seen all these classics .... Even ' Blake's 7 ' , and
' the tomorrow people '
Time express was good. Structurally it kind of reminded me of fantasy Island.
i remember watching man from atlantis and starfleet when i was a kid and i had completely forgotten about the invisible man, thanks for jogging my memory
I think I saw at least an episode or two five of these shows. Tripods aired on pbs at time when not only was I reading the novels, but a comic adaption was running in Boy's Life magazine, so I tried to stay up late on Fridays to watch it.
Great memories Stu, I used to watch automan & man from atlantis thank you 😊😊😊
Glad you enjoyed the memories! Many thanks.
I used to like automan didn't know it was that short lived
Just shows how minds play trick
I would have put money on 'Cursor' being called Bit as he was either on or off
I remember Planet of the Apes and Man from Atlantis, very popular at the time.
Spotted John de Lancie in Time Express!!
LOL
Thank You.
You're most welcome.
I've watched them all apart from The Time Express which I'd never heard of.
I loved Quatermass, I even have the novel aswell.
I Evan got on dvd
Planet of the Apes
Children of the stones
Quatermass 4 and Tripods.
Remember we only had 2/3 channels.
But thank you for showing this.
I remember watching the Invisible Man
I remember being very concerned as a kid that in his experiments the invisible man used a rabbit to test his machine but it was never referred to again.
Many thanks.
Gotta find these!!!!
Not so much forgotten as repressed memories.
Excuse me whilst I curl up in a corner and go to my happy place.
At least you left out "Kinvig".
The first clip is SO Space 1999 in form it's uncanny. And then you said it!!!!!!!
For years I tried to remember the title of 'Time Express' and would try and jog the memory of my friends in pre-internet days. "A bit like Fantasy Island, but with a train, " I would ask them. I was surprised to learn it only ran for four episodes.
@@jameshardwick2726 I remember really enjoying “Time Express” but I couldn’t remember the name of the programme 📺 The only thing I remember were the passengers had to board the train 🚊 on Track 13... Like you I was amazed that only 4 episodes were made...!!
Some gems in there. Duly subscribed for more ;)
Brilliant. Thanks!
Never heard of Time Express or Automan, Star Maidens i can't remember either but all the rest i do remember although i can't say i watched them all.
Hello Stu🙋♀️ Thank you for another fascinating video 📹 I must admit I am not a fan of science fiction. Most of the programmes mentioned passed me by. I had never heard of “Star Maidens.” I quite enjoyed “The Invisible Man” and I loved The Children of the Stone.” For a while Patrick Duffy, while appearing in Dallas, was known as the actor from “The Man from Atlantis.
I have a vague memory of “Time Express.” Did the passengers had to board the train 🚊 at Track 13...? Or am I thinking of another series? Some enjoyable obscure finds in this video 📹
Hello Alison. It was track 13 yes! Well remembered!
@@stuviewtv Oh Gosh...then I do remember watching📺 “Time Express.” Over the years I just remember characters boarding a train at Track 13. I really enjoyed watching the series, and I was amazed there were only 4 episodes made. THANKS for the memories...😃
How have I never heard of Star Maidens lmfao
Children of the Stones, Time Slip and The Changes are three children’s shows that impacted me. I was terrified of walking under power lines. Those who watched the Changes will know what I mean.
Do you remember the planet of the apes song that was done with the tv series in mind at the same time it was on tv it was by Shabam and was played a lot by ed Stewart on junior choice great memories also how about the tv series of Logan’s run that was really good planet of the apes song on you tube
I remember the planet of the apes and the invisible man and man from atlantis the man from Atlantis was recently shown on Tv and I didnt realise there was only 13 episodes and 4 films until it came on the tv
I remember Star Fleet but admit I'd forgotten it until this video brought it back. I think I forgot The Man from Atlantis on purpose. I really enjoyed the series of Planet of the Apes though.
Really liked Automan and was so disappointed when it was cancelled. Used to watch Man from Atlantis and Planet of the Apes. Never did like Quatermass but my brother enjoyed it.
Blimey I was glued to the man from atlantis !! all I did was swim with my eyes open boy did I suffer 😂 bloody chlorine top video stu ,,,,,,Phil
Thanks Phil!
Great review of some classic and not so classic SF of seventies
I alway's thought Brosnan played Auto man... must be Mandela effect, or he played similar character ✌️
I loved Tripods, I wonder if the BBC version of War of the Worlds got it's idea for the aliens from this series.
I'm pretty sure they did, I never saw Tripods back in the day but have seen clips since, and the aliens look very similar to the martians In the BBC adaptation of war of the worlds.
I can recommend a tv show called “The Fantastic Journey” featuring Roddy McDowall. Shown in the year 1977. It had a good premise.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Wasn't there a spoken warning/advisory, telling Children not to try and Swim like the Man from Atlantis????
I remember hearing someone drowned trying to do it and hit his head on the pool floor? No idea if it was true or someone made it up to stop us trying?
I remember them all except the last one.
Some real bangers on here, Children of the Stones was absolutely brilliant as was Quatermass , great vid, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Oh i see that manimal was in The Quatermass Conclusion lol. The only ones i did not watch are time express (was it ever shown in the UK), Star maidens and Star Fleet.
A shout out for the Fantastic Journey.Rarely mentioned now.
@@ghtqwrrt871 I am shouting really loud...😍 I certainly remember “Fantastic Journey.” Thank for the memory...
Shown around Xmas of 1978 on BBC2 IIRC. I don't even think the full series was shown then just for that Xmas week or two.
