@@fredginger6170 Jerry O’Connell was the star, but he brought in his younger brother Charlie for the fourth season to play a dopey, innocent super genius version of Quinn Malory and it was the most cringe inducing thing to watch.
I was on the practical special effects crew on NightMan back in ‘97.(it’s first season). We did the pyrotechnic, mechanical, and rigging/flying effects on the show Seeing clips from that show brought back some memories, namely the long hours we spent just trying to get an episode finished. We were constantly under the gun creating the gags for each episode despite the limited budget, lack of prep time and (at times) conflicts of various sort due to the hiring of certain directors who just didn’t get the show. The sad part about NightMan was the fact the producers decided to move the filming location of the show from the greater San Diego/Chula Vista area to Canada for the tax incentives for its second season. This led to a noticeable decline in overall quality in the show and led to its cancellation. Who know what would have happened if they had kept the show in California- ratings for the show were actually on the rise by the end of the first season (mainly due to better script), and it could be surmised that the show could have gone beyond just two seasons if they stayed. Oddly enough, I still have my crew polo shirt to this day lol
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. A western on the surface but the ongoing story was definitely SF. It and the X-Files debuted the same year on the same night. They got similar ratings, but X-Files was cheaper for Fox (being their own production) and got better demographic ratings in the 18-29 age range. So Fox axed Brisco after one year.
it is sad that they didn't continue The Adcentures of Brisco County, Jr. It was great fun to watch, and the two lead actors certainly looked like they had great fun with it.
M.A.N.T.I.S. was one of the best superhero shows I saw in the 1990s. Just like CBS cancelling the 1990-91 Flash television series saying the producers went over budget with their ideas involving stories and characters, I was equally disappointed M.A.N.T.I.S. was cancelled. I wanted to see what other supervillains Miles Hawkins/The MANTIS would have faced if the show went into a second season.

I saw SeaQuest D.S.V., and a little bit of Millenium and Seven Days. I wanted to remember the title of Seven Days - now I do. I haven't even heard of most of these shows. I'd like to watch some of these other shows as they do look kinda good but in a goofy and unpolished 1990's way. There was a crappy 1995 TekWar first person shooter game built on the Build Engine.
I was scanning the comments searching for someone to mention Nowhere Man. Thanks. The concept was a love letter to The Prisoner. It made the whole world into The Village. Brilliant show.
I rather enjoyed "Alien Nation", here, back in the day. I found the stories interesting and the characters and writing were both excellent. The way George freaked out and went into a irrational state of rage over his daughter painting an Overseer's tattoo on her arm makes sense once you realize that Tenctonese men are the ones who carry and birth children. In general I'd gladly revisit that series. While I don't remember "M.A.N.T.I.S." terribly well at all, I do remember not having any issue with the lead character being black and liking what little I watched of it just fine. I vaguely remember the rest of these series, and many of them look pretty interesting to me. The 90s was an odd time for TV and in general for pop culture, to put it nicely.
@@Menkepht Like most everything made before the beginning of the 00s, for sure. But I really dug the ideas presented in that series in particular, and the acting was exceptional most of the time as well. In fact, I recall that Armin "Quark" Shimerman made an appearance in that series as a corrupt Tenctonese corporate sort.
This show messed me up so bad as a kid. The one episode where that one Palpatine looking overseer who chopped off hands gives me nightmares to this day.
Time Trax came on right after Kung Fu the Legend Continues on channel 39 (WB)(now CW network) back in 1993 and by God I loved both shows. Those were great moments in tv history.
Alien Nation! I loved it so much, I even learned the theme song in the alien language. Earth 2 was great, too. It was one of VERY few television shows set on another planet (Although, rumors have it they filmed on Earth to save production costs.)
As a teenager in the 90's I watched 7 Days, Dark Skies, Millennium, The X-Files, The Outer Limits (1995-2002), Stargate SG-1 and a few more Sci-fi Shows and some I discovered on DVD in the early 2000's such as Mantis and Earth 2.
Something about Frank's quite intensity in the face of the soul corrupting horrors within humanity made Millennium an absolute must watch for me as a young teen.
What about *tales from the dark side* ... I wanna say it came on at like 7 & 7:30pm every night. Quantum Leap was my sh!t too....it came on USA I think everyday at 7pm too. And what about The Secret World of Alex Mack... They probably didn't mention it on here because it was so offensively racist, sexist, malnourishist, survivalist, naturalist, LIST+LIST....but it was RAD. Millennium was my favorite but it got REALLY dark at times..... remember The Peacock Family X-Files episode? They kept their Mom/GF on a Skateboard rolled under the couch or something....those poor folks are truly marginalized!!! I mean, they're just like the House of Windsor, they kept it in the family for years.
Actually in Alien Nation the females and males shared the work of caring for the egg. In the first half the female would carry the egg and then they had a beautiful transference ceremony where the males then sheltered the egg. That's the part where the egg gets really big and I must say, I did love the spoof that they did with the common stereotypes being switched. My young brain though that it was funny! I REALLY loved that show! I didn't know that there were movies, so now I have to go find them!
I hear that. UPN did that with lots of shows and then used the excuse that the shows did not have enough ratings. NO DUH! ITS BECAUSE NO ONE EVER KNOW WHEN IT WAS ON AND YOU NEEEEVER ADVERTISED THE CHANGES!!!!. It really ticked me off.
In 1999/2000, Chris Carter (from X-Files) released a show called Harsh Realm, didn't even last the first season, but it had a great cast, interesting concept (based on an X-files episode and high production values. If it instead belongs to a possible 00's video, you should also look up The Lost Room from 2006, another great show that didn't make it through its first season
that's what i'm talking about, Space Above and Beyond....that show had a damn cliffhanger. Babylon 5 folks at home skipped most episodes (might have to do binge watch that show; already got Seaquest, missed most of that show)

The two miniseries were great, groundbreaking science fiction with a powerful statement. The series sucked. Basically they hit the "reset" button to send everything back to the way it was at the start of the second miniseries. The series finale was the worst I've seen in my life, no wonder it took me twenty years after its production to finally see it. I guess that my local ABC affiliate recognized it for the garbage that it was and decided the series deserved a better send-off than that. 'V" the revival didn't come close to the example set by the miniseries. The first episode of the original 'V' did a superb job of telling the stories of the Visitor's arrival, and a completely plausible retelling of the events leading up to the founding of the Resistance by the end of the first TWO HOURS. The reboot, on the other hand, proceeded at a snail's pace. Not enough progress in the plot between episodes to keep the viewers remotely interested, not to mention plot holes you could drive a bus through. The Visitors didn't even come close to being in authority until the season(and series finale), which should have been entitled "How to completely destroy your show in one episode." Not as bad as the series finale of "V" but pretty damn close.
The reboot of V was good. Mona Bacarin is s treasure. She wss great in Gotham. I didnt see much of the original so had no comparison issues. Reboots are hard to pull off,

It's was a great show but sadly it was a fox show, and generally if a show doesn't have huge viewership numbers they will axe it. Networks don't really allow shows to slowly build up their audience any more. For example the tv series MASH, it had horrible ratings for the first 2 to 3 seasons, almsot got cancelled but cbs decided to give it a chance., mash eventually found it's audience and wound up running for 11 years and is one of the most successful shows in American history. It's series finale is the most watched series finale of all time, it was the most watched television broadcast in American history until the 2010 superbowl. Networks need to lean to let shows try to find audience and once they find a time slot that works don't change it.
Something sacred about Quantum Leap. I don't think it should be touched. However, if Scott Bacula (forgive my spelling) has anything to do with, I'll have my popcorn ready.
M.A.N.T.I.S was truly an underrated and way ahead of its time show. Yet it helped to give hope to children of color in particular to see a strong and legitimate human made super hero in representation. I loved that show !
Excellent video! I'd probably include Viper and the SciFi show Quicksilver (may not have been the name but it was mentioned constantly throughout the show).
Nowhere Man was an excellent show & very underrated too. Farscape was so good it getting cancelled caused me to quit watching sci-fi channel completely until Battlestar Galactica premiered, which was over a year later
I remember most of these, some of them were brilliant. I remember Tekwar because I watched all of it as it was originally broadcast... and I secretly liked Earth2... mostly because of some of the actors in it. My favorite of course was MillenniuM, despite musical producers that caused severe differences in each of its three seasons. One show left off of this list of course was “the visitor“ (1997), produced by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. But it was only made as a one shot with no intent to continue it. Even so it was immensely popular at the time it was on but today, it is very difficult to find episodes, it’s not shown on any networks, and I don’t think it was ever given a proper DVD release either. Somebody has that show online here but it was recorded straight off of the TV while it was being broadcast, so it’s a 24 year old recording...

Mission: Genesis was the Sci-Fi Channel's very first original live action TV series in 1997. It had a fascinating premise, good cast, and nifty production values given it did not have a lavish budget being the channel's first effort. Needs to be revived.
I was a fan of Earth: Final Conflict, Sliders (the early seasons), Dark Angel, Firefly, and The Sentinel. None of which seemed to really receive the recognition that they deserved.
Aeon Flux was made to a movie. For randos it was quite good, for the series fans, probably lacked (a bit different) but overall well made, good visuals and action.

Jerry O'Connell

I was on the practical special effects crew on NightMan back in ‘97.(it’s first season). We did the pyrotechnic, mechanical, and rigging/flying effects on the show
Seeing clips from that show brought back some memories, namely the long hours we spent just trying to get an episode finished.
As a teenage comic fan in the 90's, I loved Night Man. Thank you for the memories, as short lived as it was, it was cool while it lasted.
So Fox axed Brisco after one year.
brisco county was great
That was a far out show.
it is sad that they didn't continue The Adcentures of Brisco County, Jr. It was great fun to watch, and the two lead actors certainly looked like they had great fun with it.
I personally thought that Briscoe County Jr. was a ripoff of "The Wild, Wild West"
@@karlsmith2570 Brisco County Jr. came many years before wild, wild wild west.

Time Trax will forever be a show that changed me into becoming a sci-fi geek. That show was brilliant.
Yeah, Time Trax was one of the PTEN shows, another PTEN show was...Babylon 5!
The running gag for Time Trax was his weapon was supposed to be a car remote even though he didn't have a car. Nobody believed him because there were three buttons.
Took me forever, but I did manage to get the two seasons on DVD (the only DVDs I've bought since Blu Ray came out!) It was a great premise and I think Dale Midkiff was always underrated for his acting - look at his performance in Pet Semetary.

Alien Nation would have many people up in arms today.
@@Menkepht Like most everything made before the beginning of the 00s, for sure.
I wonder if the writers were inspired by Seahorses.
I remember 7 days and I recall that UPN kept changing the day that it came on to the point that from week to week I never knew when it would be on.
As at the time, my city had no upn affiliate, I would watch do on 1 channel then switch to another and watch Voyager and 7 days back to back
Looking back, it shows they gave up on the show. That cast shuffle did not help either.
The title seems strangely fitting then
So it got the "firefly treatment"
In 1999/2000, Chris Carter (from X-Files) released a show called Harsh Realm, didn't even last the first season, but it had a great cast, interesting concept (based on an X-files episode and high production values. "V" is another one that I enjoyed. I just don't think most of the regular channels appreciate SciFi programs.

Well, they could had packed SLIDERS in but this also borders more FANTASY and not so much Science Fiction since the show was not about the FUTURE but about Parallel Worlds of the NOW.

They could have mentioned Thunder in Paradise, Sliders and Team Knight Rider too.
Team Knight Rider definitely should have lasted longer than it did.

Manimal was a rip-off of Charlie's Angels and Nightman was a rip-off of Dallas.

I was able to buy the whole series on DVD on Amazon Glad to see I'm not the only one who loved that show
I would mention Eerie, Indiana but that show was such a mixed bag. It had elements of sci-fi and supernatural. Still a great show though. Even The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr - a Western series, had elements of steampunk and even a time traveler.
Roy Scheider, not Snider. There's no N in his name.
I feel the nostalgia, good job 👍
Carl Lumbly was a childhood hero of mine. M.A.N.T.I.S is a legendary show.
I'm so glad Seven Days was on this list. What a great show!
Bah, didn't mention "The Sentinel". It was about a cop who had gained the power of superhuman senses of sight, smell, taste, and hearing.
The Sentinel was great watched the heck out of it, had a great cast too.
I fondly remember many of these. Thanks!
Nightman should have had the rest of the Malibu Comics characters drop by to set up their own spin offs.
This is what I wanted as a kid. Kept waiting every week for what ever channel was showing it that week to see if Prime would show up. Manimal got an episode, but never Prime.
@@YakBat Prime and Hardcase acting like buddy cop or father son super team.
@@bhushanharripersad5716 Gotta admit, YakBatPrime is my email, so I spent all day confused as hell as to why you wanted to see ME and Hardcase. Totally just now got what you actually meant, and gotta fully agree.
Woulda love to see Ultraforce and Mantra make their live action debut on Nightman.
Marvel Comics owns the Malibu comic franchise including Men In Black that deserves an experimental revival.
Probably the only show on this list that I truly wish had gone the distance is Dark Skies. It was supposed to go 4 seasons, one for each decade (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s) ending with a showdown at the turn of the century. Four seasons would have been great.
Whilst it was late 90s/early 00s, Lexx was a brilliant show and seems to have been forgotten by many!
That show was great, but I would say it's sort of a cult show now. Not really lost or forgotten, like some on the list.
Lexx had a great look, and I watched it, hoping it would develop into something better...and it didn't. German Sci-fi...is weird.
Star Kops? I don't remember much but it had a great theme song by Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues.
I remember they repainted a liquor store a few blocks from my house with alien graffiti for Alien Nation.
I remember that liquor store, too! OMG!
I grew up with so many of these shows, this video was a nostalgic walk down memory lane
Everyone complaining, i think this is a completely AI generated video, so... I mean some of these are great but some are less than the effort to start watching.
Yeah I thought so too.
Alien Nation needs a reboot, loved that show
I feel like there been a few movies that copied the formula . . . even Will Smith did an Alien Nation but with Elves and Orcs and stuff
Surprised that the series "Sliders" was not mentioned. It was amazing!!
Yeah, the premise had great potential. In the same vein as Quantum Leap
But is it really "lost" or "forgotten", it got what 5 seasons? and was very popular at the time. I think the same can be said for Seaquest, was pretty big at the time.
Last season of Sliders ended on a thud.
For a while. It went downhill in the last season or two.
