5th Gen Prelude
This is Part 1 of Manual Transmission Removal on a 1997 to 2001 Honda Prelude. Today's task is to remove the transmission so we can replace the Clutch disk and Pressure plate. It seems hard to do, but with just a little bit of elbow grease and simple tools, this job can be done! After this video, check out the follow up on this, Part 2 of the Transmission Removal... Mad props to you taking bolts and parts off while holding a camera! Great video for the Prelude community, much appreciated!
Thank you for shooting this detailed video. I was confused when I came across the drivers side axle, I have never seen a setup like that before and wanted to watch a video of the removal first before I screw up anything. Thanks again!
thank you seriously saved me alot of time and money ‼️💯
Man your vids helped me to replace my sons clutch. I had never attempted to do one before. It was a pain in the ass to get it back in. It has been 6 months since the install, and stilk going strong. Thanks for the vids.
Best step be step video j could find

Thanks so much for your video
Please give the links where you bought all the party. Thanks a gain.
Base, easy peasy. Prelude SH, with the axle is SEIZED into the atts. Not so easy.
Spent 4 hours removing two front bolts holding the atts to the engine block. Because I had to notch the driver side axle inner cup with a flexible Dremel attachment so that I could squeeze in a socket. For the upper front atts bolt.
Only way to remove the axle from the atts is to destroy the atts by cutting the output shaft.
Hey good video by the way i was wondering what all parts are needed for a full manual swap for these model prelude?
I did couple of auto to manual swaps in the past..
These are the parts you need:
Manual transmission (F or H series)
Manual Axles (automatic will work too)
Manual transmission rear T-Bracket
Manual rear mounts (auto will work too)
Manual transmission Upper bracket (passenger side)
Instead of hunting for stock plumbing for Clutch, use stainless steel Instead
Master and slave cylinders
Manual transmission shifter and cables
Manual transmission brake pedal
Manual transmission Clutch pedal
Clutch/ flywheel / pressure plate / pressure plate bolts for Manual/ Manual flwheel bolts
Optional: Manual cluster, Manual ecu or obd1stepdown ecu
Manual transmission Upper mount (passenger side)
Release fork / throw out bearing / Manual vehicle speed sensor
That's pretty much it..
@@PinoyStyleDIY thanks sooooo much👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
if im doing just my whole clutch assembly, all 3 parts, do i need to remove the axles and all that ?
It's easier to dismount the transmission out with both axles off..
My passenger side axle does not have even close to enough room to drop like yours does. I’ve done everything you have, ball joint, tye rod, brake line, abs, popped the axle fully out from the tranny side. But there is no way it’s dropping for me to get rid of it. And there is zero play left to pull the hub further. Any idea?
If you've done all of the steps I did here for the passenger side axle, then the only difference I can think of is, the axle I removed is probably severely damaged than yours, meaning I can bend the shaft (cv) side more in an angle.. if the shaft you are removing has no play, try removing the lower shock fork; you have a bolt in the strut base and another bolt that connects to the LCA. That should give you enough clearance to further push down the entire hub..
Is this the same procedure for the type sh?
For the most part yes.. here's a link on the differences between sh and base model..

How long to the install take total?
Usually 4 to 5 hours, but with videos and editing, took me 3 sessions of 3 hours..
Do I have to drain the transmission?
If replacing axle, you don't have to.. but if you're doing a transmission drop and Clutch job, best way to avoid mess is to drain the transmission fluid..
Do you work on other people's cars? I need a new clutch in the prelude
I do in some extent.. are you local from 23320 zip?
I live in Newport News
That's one hour away from me

@@PinoyStyleDIY ok I just did
Is it necessary to remove both axles?
For this application, yes..
@@PinoyStyleDIY I’m just doing the rear main seals and I only have the passenger side axle out as of right now .
@@mpoghost37 it'll be easier if you drain trans, then remove both axle, drop the trans, then service the r-main-seal.. while your at it, inspect clutch assembly and throw out bearing too, then consider replacing or inspecting both axle shaft seals too..
I mean parts
