I'm not even a NASCAR fan, but I can't stop listening to guys like Humpy sharing their stories. I sold apparel for an arm of Earnhardt's company Sports Images back in the late 90's. With that, I was able to get garage and pit passes for certain races. My dad was a big gear head, loved ole #3 and I was able to take him to a couple of races at Dover with the all access passes. I never had a close relationship with my dad, we never shared the same interests in life. But for those couple of Sundays, we were never closer in our relationship.
One cool moment was watching Dale walk through the garage area, surrounded by autograph seekers. He caught me and my pa watching his every step from the side, saw our 3 hats and must have seen the smile on my father's face...... and just gave a slight wink to my dad.
For a couple years, I started watching all of the NASCAR races and yes, I became a huge #3 fan. Last race I watched was the crash in 01. RIP to a great man.

I haven't watched a race in a while, and years ago I was a casual race fan. However, I love listening to this podcast each week. These guys and gal do a great job.
One thing I noticed, and liked, in this podcast was how Dale got enthralled with Humpy's stories. Dale has turned into a great interviewer, but at times he gets almost excited and talks to much while trying to elaborate on this question (I have this same trait at times) and he will cut in on when people are trying to answer. However, for 5-10 minutes at a time during this podcast he was dead silent and completely captivated by Humpy's stories.

I had a once in a lifetime experience with Humpy Wheeler when I was 8 years old. My Dad and I went to Lowes Motor Speedway to take a tour of the track. When we got there, the lady at the desk said no one was available to take us on a tour. Then comes an old man, who we thought was a janitor or something says “nonsense I’ll take em on a tour. Come on fellas, load up.” At the end of the tour, Dad asked him how long he’d been working at the track…he said “Many many years, I own this track”. We spent a full 2 hours on a personal tour of Charlotte with Humpy Wheeler himself! I don’t even think we were charged for it!! That was one of the coolest experiences of my life!

Humpy.....one of a kind. I attended both Charlotte cup races for some 20 years. Competing with 150,000 other people trying to get into the track and parked was no easy task. Always left for the track from wherever I was staying early, a quick stop at Bojangles, and getting to the track early. It was worth it! We were entertained for hours because of Humpy Wheeler. Lmao , that was a good blast of the past. Had me laughing so hard my wife was wondering what I was watching. Jr, I love hearing the stories of the past. I miss your father's personality, and what he brought to the sport. It is kind of funny , I wasn't a fan of your father when he was alive. I rooted for those blue ovals , my step father as a joke had some t shirts printed up, as a joke of course. That had a blue oval on the front of the shirt. It said "Fade" in the oval . Underneath the oval it said what Fade stood for. Fans against Dale Earnhardt. On the back of the shirt it had a red circle with line thru it . And the number 3 with the a Chevy emblem thru it. My parents debuted the shirt at Daytona during the 125 s before they were on tv. It was a black t. To hot for Daytona .they sent me one . Oh my God, I wore it at the Rock People were ready to fight me ,and didn't seem to understand the joke . I retired the shirt after that. Lol. Thought I would share a funny joke that backfired on me . Funny how I root on them chevys now . And always cheered for you. Still sport my Dale Jr racing Ts when I go to the track

With the loss of Dale Sr, I became an instant Jr fan, as many did. When Jr retired I never could really pick a single driver to follow, the race rules were changing and I began to lose interest in NASCAR. I am so grateful to find these Download podcasts and have thoroughly enjoyed learning the back stories of not only the Earnhardts but of EVERYONE in NASCAR. Humpy is fantastic! It is quite a history and very enjoyable to hear and learn. Thank you, Jr and your team. Cheers from Texas.

Thanks Dale and Humpy so much. I was glued to this episode. Such great amazing ideas, talented people went into bringing a good show to the people and Humpy was way ahead of his time and the best!!

Humpy is the ultimate promoter. No other before and none after has the success he had. A salesman through and through he could sell ice to an Eskimo and a nut to a squirrel. Truly sad todays NASCAR generation knows little of him.

Just remember, Bruton Smith fired Humpy and gave his son the job. CMS has never been the same.

Dale, Jr., your racing was a warm-up for this winning show. It's like you're living your childhood again listening to Humpy. He's a trip for sure. Kudos to you, Dale!

Yeah we were doing an intro to the race... we blew up two houses, and called in the military to invade the speedway...Nothing unusual here continue on.
