LSV has been working on the fundamentals of opening good cards, it is really paying off.
Why didn't LSV always open good cards? Is he stupid?
Ah interesting, I have never tried that strategy
Ah yes, the most important skill in cube, pleasing RNGesus and then accepting his bequeathments.
Seemed like it didn't pay off. Did you watch the same video?
We have some of the more ridiculous ends to our matches (failed Eurekas, cloning Pyrogoyfs, multiple Crabominations, Turn 1 Bonehoard Dracosaurs, and big Emperor of Bones finishes). I'm sure you'll get be back sometime this month haha.
I agree Ephemerate isn't strong, but my domain cards didn't come together and I was short on playables. I figured Ephemerate was fine enough with ~7 ETB guys and knowing your team had Bitter Triumph and Fiery Covenant I thought it was slightly better than normal; admittedly it is quite bad with my Containment Priest. Alternative was Tribal Flames and playing Scrubland/Bayou.
That Windswept Heath hate draft was incredibly sharp.
The titles are always so fun. It's impressive to make unique but still distinctly you titles everyday
I've been watching these cube vids since the begining and now finally have to comment: I don't know if anyone has pointed this earlier, but I do like these "pro" cube drafts because the pace of play is really enjoyable. Other content creators who post basically uploads from streams are more boring because the pace of play is sometimes really slow. Even when the board isn't too complex. Love these vids, keep it up :)
Also: I'd like to see more BK. I really enjoy his clear reasoning behind decision making regarding picks+plays.
hate to see it at 36:00 but glad to know your reactions are the same as mine 😂
Congrats on not cursing - good training there
Complaint equity is at an all time high
R1G3 and all of Round 2 was just...whoof
drinking up lots of power now that road to worlds is over
Hey LSV have you ever looked at adding incarnation technique? 5 mana mill 5 then reanimate with the ability to copy it if you give your opponent a copy. So generally a mill 10 and double reanimate end up being very hard to miss wrapped up in a single card.
That red deck was sick
The quality of r/w creatures nowadays sure is something huh
Have to love BIG RED even when the shoe is on the other foot.
TIL Ajani and the Balloon Man
New viewer to your channel, what a fun way to learn higher level MTG thought processes
Haha I love your user name
I’m so excited for that video reviewing the Duskmourn additions with BK, any chance you could bring up why you prefer Path to Unwanted Remake? I really feel that an opponent getting a 2/2 is weaker than them getting +1 land, and the biggest difference between the two is “destroy” instead of “exile”.
Game 2 opponent saw the commenter complaining about the lack of fast red aggro cards in the last video.
It's crazy how powerful new sets have become and how many cube playables we have been getting recently (even excluding MH2). At this point, the Vintage cube is almost a rotating format.
Love when new cards fine a home in cube. Balloon Man looks sweet
I'm sorry; did you say Cube Review with BK? That's going to be like waiting for Christmas!
Hey LSV, curious if it has been asked: Would you ever consider doing a one-off draft of the Vintage Cube decklist from say 5, 10 years ago? I think the new cube is still amazing but I have some (perhaps misplaced) nostalgia for the old cube too. Could make for some fun variety content!
Love the content as always, some of those games were brutal to watch god damn, the opponent's top decks really had the yugioh heart of the cards going on
That Noise Marine turn was disgusting
Woohoo! The superior team cube format: 3v3!
Alright, I just finished the draft so now it's time for a completely unqualified analysis!
The only difference I think I would have made in that would have been Shadowy Backstreet over Lorien Revealed: fixes black for windswept heath, gives a surveil land and imo has a higher ceiling than Lorien Revealed. You said it best when you said "this is going to be a keep your mana up deck" and imo the best way to capitalize on that is to give yourself a surveil and a "turn off" when you have a significant advantage. However, Lorien revealed does make better use of the mana, so in my (unqualified) opinion, I think it's a close pick, but I think that's the only pick I disagree with.
Time to watch the videos, sick deck as always
Edit: Just watched the matches and I'm like 99% certain it actually wouldn't have made a tangible difference
Oh man, I ate lunch forgetting to watch lsv again. No wonder everything tasted so bland.
My man didn't even consider yawgmoth's will or seething song with breach
These games had some wild turn 3s shenanigans! Big Red cascade is a thing 😂
Man Sam was really popping off
What did Billie open in pack 2?
Ephemerate was so brutal
Yea, this deck was nice, definitely some variance losses in there
Magic also makes me drink deeply...
i wanna see someone Screaming nemesis fire covenant wombo for the win
I expect only the finest artisanal opinions myself
Hey LSV. Could you make a video about the most powerful possible deck to draft? (Maybe with only one ir two pieces of power) I'd be interested to see what colors it would be made out of and I think it would make an interesting video.
Classic control is boomer magic. modern magic is overpowered 3 drop. Creatures! Attack!
Passing the Shinobi?? (Lol Nevermind never punished)
Match 2 game 2 is so ridiculous
Do it Doug!
nice
hey lsv, not to be mean, but do you remember that ephemerate? ;)
thanks for the daily uploads, they really make my day!
Day 1 of waiting for LSV to draft Balloon Man
Signed
It's pretty obvious at this point that creatures/threats are just too powerful these days to make drafting control worth it. Unless you have every single piece of cheap interaction, you're going to get beatdown pretty quickly.
Agreed. I think one would have to purposefully not include all of the strongest threats in the cube at this point, if the desire was to have a wider variety of viable archetypes. WotC isn't going to print much removal or counterspells that are better than what's already included in the cube, but we get new threats that are +1 to removal all the time. You can't (reliably) draft control, tempo, or the otherwise "durdle and win eventually" archetypes (like land stuff). I don't necessarily think that threat-based magic is unfun, but it definitely starts to coalesce the non-combo decks that viable in an average draft.
I just don't know what this deck was actually trying to do to win games.
I don't think lack of win cons is a problem in this deck. It has a bunch of fliers/unblockable creatures and a fallen shinobi, which is plenty in a control deck. The issue is more that it is a bit slow if it doesn't draw the mox, because it doesn't have a ton of cheap interaction, especially creature interaction once they hit the board. Deck is solid, it just needed a bit more removal.
Emperor of Bones, Jace, Shinobi, Spelljacker, Fanatic, Oliphaunt
@@Sidnvand also to draw the removal - so many chances to draw Toxic Deluge.
@@dementievatz Yeah, not seeing deluge in any game certainly hurt, although that would also be fixed by just having a bit more redundancy. I'm a lot lower on the control archetype that doesn't have plenty of ways to deal with creatures these days. Every other creature in cube is now a massive snowballing threat. At least this deck could be proactive itself with flash threats, so holding up countermagic was less painful than normal.
I still think a cube curated for less power outliers just ending the game without any meaningful interaction would be better. Vintage cube is fun but really just leads to so many non games on top of the regular magic variance.
It’s just such a bummer seeing an hour of preparation and planning just get negated by some obscene fast mana draw idk
.
This title isn’t gonna age well😭
The art on fairy mastermind is so bad.... that is all.
Is LSV drunk drafting? Video title seems to indicate that...
Give me one million beers with my vintage cube
