- Happy New Year! To start the new year I wanted to make something I'd been staring at for years without considering how easy it would be to make and here we are. The butterfly magnet was born.
Enjoy! :)
Video Features
-Making the butterfly outline
-Transferring the baked butterfly
-Creating more decorations
-Using mica and gilding wax
Tools:
-White and black polymer clay
-Guiding wax (or you can use gold mica)
-Green mica
-2 large magnets
Baking Polymer Clay:
UK instructions for baking- it's all in Celsius not Fahrenheit, which is why I don't always quote times & temperatures. I recommend using Polymer Clay packet instructions. However a good tip is to bake no higher than 100 degrees Celsius. It's better to bake at a lower temperature for longer, than higher for shorter.
Larger clay items need longer- always check after 10 mins- sometimes things fall over in the oven & can be rescued at this point. Watch for burning! Especially white as it's quick to burn (don't know why...) and can turn yellow!
Once out of the oven wait for it to cool before thinking it's baked- if it feels soft to touch, you can poke a finger nail in it or a finger print, back in the oven it goes!
Electric ovens work better as the temperature is even, gas oven temperatures fluctuate do not keep a steady temp for baking polymer clay.

Hi Gail! Happy 2024! I am glad you are on the mend. I love the soft colors of the butterfly magnet. The strands really do look like metal! So cool. 🌟
Thank you Jenny, yeah I really enjoyed this one 😁
You have done an amazing job. It looks great. I love the gold on the black. Gives it a kind of vintage look.
Thank you! Yeah, I like the vintage look with gold on black too 😁
Super cool, even the coloring is simple yet beautiful, well done. Tfs hugs from across the pond.
Thanks Karen! Happy New Year! 😊
That was fabulous! Love love that butterfly! Hope you feel better soon! Happy new year 🎆!!!

Thank you Brenda ! Very nice of you to say :)
That's beautiful. Love it. Bigger is better. 😂 Hope you feel well soon. ❤
Thank you so much! You'd think I'd choose a cheaper craft medium to work with considering some of the sizes of things I make, but I can't help it! 🤣 I did a short series on mini things - that didn't last long haha -thanks for wishing me well, appreciated 😊
it´s beautiful, I always watch till the ende, don´t want to miss the blooooooooopers lol, happy new year
Aww thanks, Nini! So nice that you watch all the way though too. I don't think there will ever be a video without bloooooooopers- because half the time, I don't know what I'm talking about, or suddenly I'm creating a new language 🤣
good for you, not many people can do that, I know Tolkin could and did :)@@GailJonesPolymerClay
Happy New Year, not a good way to start it by being sick 🤔 glad you felt better to do the butterfly 😀 it is very beautiful. 💝
Happy New Year, Judi! No, I was losing my voice for a bit, but almost fully functional now 🤣
I thought it was wire, not only does it look like wire, it looks like hammered metal! The pale green background is spot on! Looks great😁
I was just thinking about using wire to create a pattern or picture and then to fill in with enamel to do a calaussin type effect. But, now, I can use extruder and make long snakes and outline as you did.
The best with your goals for your channel. I'll suggest NY friends watch, you don't have to clay to enjoy the process and to enjoy you! HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉🎉
Thank you, Allison! Yes, that's a great idea. You could also use resin to imitate the enamel 🤣 thanks also for recommending my channel. It all goes a very far in getting visibility, youtube can be a tough field to make it in, I'd love to do this full time, but it won't happen for a good while yet! Happy New Year. Thanks for your support! 😊
Looks great
Thank you Maureen! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous, I love the colours, what did you use to colour the background, was it mica or paint? 💚💛
Thank you, Siobhan! I used mica - it's linked in the description. Very high pigmented, it's called A-NRZO - a little goes a long way :)
