      Looks like fun, especially in small surf, the regular gutsy not getting many waves. But can it compare to taking a super late drop and pulling in on an overhead wave? Something I’ve never seen a foil board doing.

    • @misterbennetts
      @misterbennetts  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@mitseraffej5812 it’s funny you say that, because I talk about this all the time. I surfed professionally for 10+ years and foiling gives me even more of a rush than dropping in a overhead wave and getting barreled (which used to be my favourite thing to do). Don’t get me wrong, I definitely miss getting stand up barrels, but to get that feeling from one good stand up barrel, you can get that on foil almost everyday. Foils were never designed for riding barrels, they were designed to harness untapped energy, unrideable on any other craft. It just so happens that they work amazing on surfable waves and actually amplify the surfing feeling by an infinite number - that’s why I stopped surfing nearly 5 years ago. You should try it one day, it will change your life! 🤙🏼

    • @mitseraffej5812
      @mitseraffej5812 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@misterbennetts I would so love to try foiling, unfortunately I am now old and decrepit. The boards I started on were the first of the short board designs. Single fin with the wide point up front, they were absolute pigs.
      How things have changed. Arthritis and multiple joint replacements knocked me out of the water ten years back in my mid 50s. I still grieve the loss and have a fantasy of being towed into some gigantic mutant wave as a way of euthanising myself. Maybe I should do it on a foil🤪

      Prob took me 1 month to figure that out but I literally went every day, sometimes twice a day. I also was on some very shit low aspect early gear which was super inefficient. Mr. Bennetts, you had mentioned in your other takuma video that this foil is good for top turns. I definitely see it in this video. In regards to the takuma pumping ability, I was using the massive Mike pedigo fly line productions tail wing and it was quite an improvement with the takuma pumping.

    • @misterbennetts

      Unfortunately that tail wing only works on the older takuma foils. They just don’t pump because they have a low aspect ratio. Around 7 I believe. But the 800 does surf good 👍🏼

    I have never really wanted to surf... I have actually tried it but found it boring. Time spend ducking though waves, paddling out repeatedly, even if you fail to catch a wave left me wondering how it was worth the time. Watching Foil boarding is the first time in my life I have wanted to go in the ocean... the idea that you can go out and come back almost fully dry from the knees up after catching 10 waves in a short period of time has massive appeal. Yes, I understand you can fall, get wet ect... but you can show up to the beach, run in, launch off and with in 1 min you are on your first wave, then crest over the top, pump to the next wave and repeat until tired and head back in... THAT is more like skating or biking... where the event is not some where way out in the future, and you don't even know if the wave you want to catch is coming so you just sit, waiting... because working your way back out from a crap wave sucks on a surf board.
