The media and politicians make it sound like the only people who own rifles or handguns are criminals and mass shooters, when in reality, almost all (over 99%) of gun owners follow all the laws and never get in trouble. In fact, according to the FBI, more people die because of "hands, fists, and feet" than rifles every year, and about 70% of gun deaths are suicides, so if they want to help reduce gun deaths, the biggest category would be mental health for suicidal people. It's also worth noting that the places where there are the MOST gun deaths now are the places with the MOST STRICT gun laws already: places like Chicago and Detroit and Washington DC and places like that. It's just like bullies in school. Does the bully go and try and beat up the big guy on the wrestling team? Hell no. Does he go and try and beat up a little guy? Absolutely. Criminals do the same thing - they look for easy targets that aren't going to fight back and if they know there aren't any guns in the neighborhood then they don't have any fear to rob them. We actually have some information to back this up. In Switzerland, all men right out of high school do a few months of boot camp and weapons training, and everyone is given a gun to keep at home in case there is ever a war and they need everyone to defend the country, everyone has a gun at home. @@USFirst1776 you're kidding right? In a country of over a hundred million people there were 9 deaths in 2018 from firearms. In 2017 there was a firearm homicide. Why? Because there are so few guns and even ammo is regulated. When you break down those miniscule numbers you'd also see a massive percentage are related to organized crime because an average citizen isn't going to be able to find a gun. The system works. Like this must recent event which if you read past the headlines wasn't a firearm but a "homemade gun". Now we don't have details but from what you can see it looks like two pipes taped together with some sort of electronic charge. So no rifling, no reloading, more like a mini pipe bomb that launched two projectiles. Still tragic but there's a reason the shooter was seen so close, if he was further away without rifling he wouldn't have been able to aim effectively. It's also why a deranged lunatic managed to kill a person in Japan while a deranged lunatic in Highland Park could successfully kill seven people and injure dozens. There was no way to fire more projectiles and he had to be close enough to be seen. Not sure about you but I'd prefer my deranged lunatics not to be able to reload or aim. As you can see from Japan that makes them incredibly easy to stop and arrest. But yeah if you ignore the staggering low numbers of firearms related deaths and homicides in general and pretend two pipes taped to a piece of wood shows ease of access to firearms, really every single detail past the headline, it totally proves your point.
It makes no sense when people try to tell someone not to learn. Ignore anyone that tells you not to look in to other perspectives so you can make educated choices in life. My grandparents and parents fled from soviet communism in the 70's. Many wanted to escape, but couldnt. Many that wanted to escape were killed trying to leave. My grandparents and parents always said they were blessed and lucky enough to escape to real freedom. And now they look at whats happening in western nations and are terrified and saddened. They say they see the exact same scenarios happening in the western nations that happened long ago in countries pre-communism/pre-soviet takeover. They told us if the west collapses and falls under a communist style rule that we should pack up and leave immediately because it will be like living in hell if you stay.

Our country was founded on fighting the Revolutionary War against the tyrannical monarch of Great Britain. Everyday people stopped one of the largest armies to ever exist. To America, the gun, is the freedom that made everything possible here. Australia also has a lot smaller population. So, here people that are not criminals at all, most have them. People that don't break the law have guns here. So, how do you compare that to a low level criminal? Most of the gun deaths in this country is gang related. In areas where guns are not allowed. Most of the deaths come from places where guns are not allowed, with a lot of gang activity. I don't know about Australia, but America, is about freedom, intended on less government, and more power to the people. And, I seen how Australia treated people during the last couple of years. Great reaction and this is such an important topic. The media and politicians make it sound like the only people who own rifles or handguns are criminals and mass shooters, when in reality, almost all (over 99%) of gun owners follow all the laws and never get in trouble. In fact, according to the FBI, more people die because of "hands, fists, and feet" than rifles every year, and about 70% of gun deaths are suicides, so if they want to help reduce gun deaths, the biggest category would be mental health for suicidal people.
It's also worth noting that the places where there are the MOST gun deaths now are the places with the MOST STRICT gun laws already: places like Chicago and Detroit and Washington DC and places like that. It's just like bullies in school. Does the bully go and try and beat up the big guy on the wrestling team? Hell no. Does he go and try and beat up a little guy? Absolutely. Criminals do the same thing - they look for easy targets that aren't going to fight back and if they know there aren't any guns in the neighborhood then they don't have any fear to rob them.
We actually have some information to back this up. In Switzerland, all men right out of high school do a few months of boot camp and weapons training, and everyone is given a gun to keep at home in case there is ever a war and they need everyone to defend the country, everyone has a gun at home. Well - they have 80% less burglaries because criminals know everyone has a gun, so few people try and break into people's homes.

JP is hilarious. I live in a state with constitutional carry , we can carry anything, no concealed carry permit needed. We have almost no violent crime , no street gangs , no muggings , no home invasions.

@@USFirst1776 you're kidding right? In a country of over a hundred million people there were 9 deaths in 2018 from firearms. In 2017 there was a firearm homicide. Why? Because there are so few guns and even ammo is regulated. When you break down those miniscule numbers you'd also see a massive percentage are related to organized crime because an average citizen isn't going to be able to find a gun. The system works.
Like this must recent event which if you read past the headlines wasn't a firearm but a "homemade gun". Now we don't have details but from what you can see it looks like two pipes taped together with some sort of electronic charge. So no rifling, no reloading, more like a mini pipe bomb that launched two projectiles. Still tragic but there's a reason the shooter was seen so close, if he was further away without rifling he wouldn't have been able to aim effectively. It's also why a deranged lunatic managed to kill a person in Japan while a deranged lunatic in Highland Park could successfully kill seven people and injure dozens. There was no way to fire more projectiles and he had to be close enough to be seen. Not sure about you but I'd prefer my deranged lunatics not to be able to reload or aim. As you can see from Japan that makes them incredibly easy to stop and arrest.
But yeah if you ignore the staggering low numbers of firearms related deaths and homicides in general and pretend two pipes taped to a piece of wood shows ease of access to firearms, really every single detail past the headline, it totally proves your point.

It makes no sense when people try to tell someone not to learn. Ignore anyone that tells you not to look in to other perspectives so you can make educated choices in life. It's a whole lot better than to just go along with what you're told to believe (and believing you came to the conclusion yourself, but most times it's just you believing what you were told to believe)

My grandparents and parents fled from soviet communism in the 70's. Many wanted to escape, but couldnt. Many that wanted to escape were killed trying to leave. My grandparents and parents always said they were blessed and lucky enough to escape to real freedom. And now they look at whats happening in western nations and are terrified and saddened. They say they see the exact same scenarios happening in the western nations that happened long ago in countries pre-communism/pre-soviet takeover. They told us if the west collapses and falls under a communist style rule that we should pack up and leave immediately because it will be like living in hell if you stay.
I don’t like politics so I don’t have a side but as someone who does own and love guns I feel like Banning guns in America today would just leave guns in the hands of those who don’t care about the law while those who do follow the rules get punished and left unable to defend themselves lol.
Australian here you are full of it . The amount of trouble guns are here the average low level criminal doesn't go near them .

@@mathewkelly9968 The difference is, the country is not the same as Australia, so you really cannot compare the two. Our country was founded on fighting the Revolutionary War against the tyrannical monarch of Great Britain. Everyday people stopped one of the largest armies to ever exist. To America, the gun, is the freedom that made everything possible here. Australia also has a lot smaller population.
So, here people that are not criminals at all, most have them. People that don't break the law have guns here. So, how do you compare that to a low level criminal? Most of the gun deaths in this country is gang related. In areas where guns are not allowed. Most of the deaths come from places where guns are not allowed, with a lot of gang activity.
I don't know about Australia, but America, is about freedom, intended on less government, and more power to the people. And, I seen how Australia treated people during the last couple of years. Good luck that happening here. I don't even own a gun, never plan on buying one either. And, I don't know anyone who doesn't have a gun, or at least live in a household that has a gun.
Guns are ingrained into our soul as an American. The Bill of Rights are important here, and guns are a big part of it. That is what are country is founded on. We would no longer be America. And, we would be a fallen country. And, there is too many Americans that don't want that to happen.
The amount of trouble that some of the people in America would get into for having guns, when they shouldn't, is just the same. But since our country is more than 10 times your population. We are dealing with more than 10 of your countries here. And, the majority all think the same, about guns. They might say something different in the media. But in reality, almost everyone has one. And the only thing that would make most of the people criminals or low level criminals, would be living like Australia.
