I know this process can be somewhat controversial. With that, what are your thoughts? What would you do different or what would you do on top of what I showed here?
Sounds like a proper break-in to me. Personally I think the key is the hot-cold cycles. Running it for 15-20 minutes and letting it cool down completely; repeating this a few times seems to work well. Thanks for the video.
Im going 440 on a 2003 model with new valves and seals my approach to run in is start bike warm up on ride nothing over 60 kmh 20 minutes then back let motor cool right down then repeat procedure slowly building Kay's and speed get a nice ring seal and oil change should be good to go
Love it . Good job on the top end . In my experience it’s the first hour running the most worrying time ,if something was wrong. But that’s sounds sweet
I would have swore the auto decompression failed and caused it to lose compression. Do a stage 2 Hot cam, and cut the top of the air box open. Then jet the carb.
As much as this has been a part of engine building/rebuilding for at least a Century, I 100% assure you that HONDA does not do any kind of "Break In" at the factory. In fact, the brand-new bikes are all put on dynos and run quickly through a series of tests to ensure all shifting, oil pressure, speed, power, temperature, and charging, are achieved within specifications. Then the oil is drained and it moves on to shipping/boxing. So if HONDA doesn't do it, why do we all think we need to?
I’m gonna assume, only my thought on this, if it needed to be redone when he had it, perhaps it may have gone longer before needing that of Honda did do a break in. But I have no idea, that’s just my assumption.
They make electric start kits for these. Not even gonna comment regarding the KTM. We all love to ride and would help each other on the trail. Ride on.

Auto decomp was functioning fine...
i have the same bike and won't start what part of Utah is that?
Hey mate, what oil did you happen to use for the break in process? Mineral then onto full syntho ?
I use 15-40 motor oil for all of my dirt bikes. I k ow oil selection can be a hot topic so i didn't even bring it up
I was tokd to run up ndown like you said get hot 2 x doing that then ride as. U would.

@@chiliboom6140 I was a Design Engineer for HONDA and lived in Japan. Not One HONDA M/C engine ever was treated differently than explained above.
@@benkanobe7500 Cool! Thanks for the info. 😁
Guess I have to do mine. Seized up after a race. I unseized it, but not starting, now. It was low on oil, is it possible its ok?
Probably needs a new cylinder along with the piston and stuff
@@decentgarage so it gets hot in there and the rings or the cylinder fail. But maybe the valves are ok.

Ride the red dragon like u stole it wide open every where is a honda LoL 😂
Have only ridden it about 20 miles since this video. Thinking about selling it to fund other projects...
You know what my favorite thing about my 2019 KTM is? The electric start 😉
You're going to get my videos flagged for hate speech with comments like that.
