I just got my figure yesterday from BBTS and boy this figure stomps. This has to be the gnarliest Godzilla figure I’ve ever owned. I especially love how his skin looks like it’s covered in nuclear dust and in complete disrepair. Takashii Yamazaki did a fantastic job of bringing a Godzilla to life that looks like a genetic dead-end that’s out for revenge and this figure captures that likeness perfectly.
Also if people want to complain about this figure, then I’d like them to take a minute to think back to when all we had for readily available Godzilla figures were those toys made by the Imperial Company and they looked like borderline knockoffs complete with googly eyes and lipstick. Count your lucky stars that we get toys like this Minus One figure that matches the source material as well as it does.
Too pricey for what it is. Those figures have so many points of articulation, yet very little articulation.
I can guarantee you'd be surprised at how good the articulation is on this one in hand.
The sculpt is fantastic, and from a distance the paint job looks ok, but the up close it still looks awfully splotchy. Yeah, the colors and where they are applied are accurate to the movie, but looks less like scar tissue and more like Godzilla's been fighting a new goldish-beige team in Splatoon.
I think I'll hold off on this one for now and wait for photos of the actual Super7 figure to pop up. Maybe certain other competitors like Hiya are working on one as well?
I don't really hold it against SHMA, tbh. The paint job required for this design is a hell of a lot more complicated than previous figures. Hopefully they can refine their painting process and give this design another go someday.
Saw the movie again and the more I watch, the more I think this figure turned out fine.

I am amazed how much it’s head resembles the 89 NECAZilla. I like the torso articulation along with the moving toes. The body probably took some borrowing from the mechanics of the GvsK Kong SHMA.
Where did you get the figure
You know, other than the head's sharpness and paint job, this figure really is nice. Nothing about the sculpt looks out of proportion from the film to me. The dry brushing looks pretty good, but I just wish the base coating had a little more going on like birth version and 89 had. I have one arm that likes to pop off, but that's it. I like it. I'm excited to see what Super7 comes up with.
Wasn’t just your theater! He is very dark in the movies especially in the oceans scenes which are a majority of his screen time! Very Very excited to see an atomic variant and maybe an odo island version 👀👀
Just saw it again and more than ever I think this figure is 90% fine.
I would kill for an odo island version too🔥🔥🔥🔥 and obviously the eventual atomic breath variant is a must have for me
I'm really hoping for a decompressed version.
I just got him myself, and as I'm not from US, I can't say much about the price difference with the Japanese release, but I guess it's the same with other countries too. Personally I felt it's a bit too expensive when compared to other SHMA like Ultima, Earth and even Shin. The price is just above the average for the line. Shin is more expensive but it's also the largest. I do like the sculpt though, probably where the costs went to.
The dorsal fin behind the neck came off in the tray when I took out mine. I was initially shocked because I thought it broke. But like you pointed out, it allows for the head to look up but I thought that is poorly executed. All 3 of the first row of the dorsal fin can pop out in that way and one of the smaller one is loosely connected for mine. His left elbow also pop out when I tried to bend it, so yours is not the only exception. The right side is fine though.
Overall, the sculpt is great but it's not perfect as it did have some quirks here and there. I think I would glued those dorsal fins because I don't want to lose them.
It's seems that Godzilla 2023 is very hopeful for the ShMa line to slowly redeem themselves. 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥

Considering the line will have like 4 figures in my tops of the year and one legit best of the year contender, I think they've done better than credited for.
I will say great review. When I do get mine I might customize him, but if not than it's no biggie. Still being fooled by yellowish overhead lighting was a surprised to know.

From what I see I love the looks of him, I really think it looks awesome and amazing to me. I like how the colors, texture and some of the sculpt look and remind me of the skin and parts of a snapping turtle. I have handled many snapping turtles in my life and it really gives me a feel that may have been some of the inspiration for this Godzilla. I really hope to get my hands on one soon. Very Cool. 👍👍👍👍
As naive as this may sound… I’m gonna wait and see how the Super7 stacks up against this guy before making any decisions for myself…
Yeah, Super7 has an iffy track record but i find myself willing to give them a fair shot with this one…

I’m going to disagree with you. I think the head ( especially the eyes) is way too small. And the feet look awkward. Overall I’m very disappointed in the figure. I’ve been a professional sculptor for over 45 years and they did a crappy job as far as I’m concerned. I’m disappointed overall. And had one on preorder based on prototypes. So thanks for the review cause now I’ll cancel and see if Hiya comes out with one more accurate.
That's fine, we all have different tastes and aesthics. As an artist and designer as well as a collector and reviewer, I like it so yeah different strokes.
I kinda disagree about the sculpt on the eyes being too small comparing the footage from the trailer with the figure it’s actually on point. That being said I feel like the biggest problem with it is the paint. It look sloppy on some areas especially (spoiler alert)

Do you think the super7 Godzilla minus one will be good? Because I think I might get that one to save money, because if I wait for hiya toys then I probably won’t get a Godzilla minus one until 2025 because we still have to wait for it to go on pre-order and then we have to wait for it to ship

You need to shop at places like HLJ, amiami, Hobby Genki, Hobby Search, and Amazon Japan. Though for the most part the figure is sold out all over Japan. No need for ebay when it'll be released here in January.

The price does not justify the few paint and sculpt issues this figure has and most importantly NO ACCESSORIES. A figure with this kinda pricetag it is UNACCEPTABLE to not have an atomic breath part or at least a different head with a better face scar or even a damn plane for koichi
Atomic breath doesn't make sense for a non atomic charged look, but I would have liked the Shindin for sure. But even that you're talking pennies. Price is also relative to where you bought it from. Importing it, knowing what I get and like from SHMA, yeah price is fine for me.
