What are y'all's thoughts about Illustrator for the iPad? Curious what your experience was like going from desktop to app.

Just found your video! I used illustrator for iPad when it was just released but as you said it’s pretty watered down. Right now, I think affinity designer is the best vector graphics tool on iPad right now.

Is there a way to cut out shapes from an existing shape or filled object? Im working on a decal and used the pen too to outline and fill the image, but there are a few placed i'd like to make transparent to give it a little detail. It will be a single color vinyl decal.

Nice review Brad. I haven’t had much time to play around with this program yet. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting. Also, is there an offset path function? I use that function a lot on the desktop version.

Thank you! I haven’t found the offset path function myself, so I looked it up. Adobe said it isn’t included yet. I’d submit a feature request! Good luck!

Great video! Took an AI class this summer and really love being mobile. I’m going to use this as an intro video for those new to AI mobile. I need to play around with clipping masks. I ASSUME (& hope) a shape with no fill will still overlap with the clipping mask. I was surprised you didn’t go into the Blob Brush tool. Oh yeah and you can rotate now!

Might depend on your budget. AI is more than 10 times more expensive, and is a subscription.

  • @w0mblemania

    Good review, thanks.
With a CC account, this thing costs an incredible AUD $360 _per year_.
Procreate is AUD $14.99, which is a one-off fee and includes free updates.
Affinity Designer is AUD $31, again, for a one-off fee. i.e. less than one tenth the price of Illustrator.
    No thanks, Adobe.
