The Knicks were made to pay for that “Phantom” foul on Hubert Davis by Scottie Pippen 2 seasons later where both teams met again at the 1996 ECSF. The Knicks were at the wrong of a “Phantom” call themselves in Game 4 at MSG where the Knicks trailed by 3 at the dying moments, John Starks appeared to have a legitimate 3-pointer which would have tied the game and sent it to OT ruled out for a “Phantom” travelling violation call on Anthony Mason. The Bulls with MJ back and Dennis Rodman added to the team got away with a 94-91 win and a 3-1 lead and eventually finished the Knicks off in just 5 games.

The Bulls should've been able to take advantage of Derek Harper missing for the Knicks. I agree that if Hue Hollins doesn’t make that crucial call at the end to decide the game, the Bulls are in a much better position to win that series and likely make it to another NBA Finals, but Derek Harper was one of the keys to the Knicks getting to the championship round. The NBA couldn’t have the Bulls win the Finals much less make it WITHOUT JORDAN - because then that would make Jordan not look as good - if they won without him
Here’s my comment on this game. The Knicks got lucky due to the fact that Hue Hollins called that phantom on Scottie Pippen. When you got 2 teams playing their hearts out to win a critical playoff game and one official takes it upon himself to decide the outcome of the game, I called that favoritism. Yes New York won the game and won the series to beat Chicago and made it to the finals, but they lost to the Houston Rockets. As they say, “Cheaters never win”! Chicago was always a better team than New York. That’s why that have 6 NBA championships and the Knicks don’t have any since the 1970’s.
Even if THAT infamous foul is never whistled (I assume CHI wins game 6 up 3-2)…… are we sure the Bulls would have beaten Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals?
Man that Indy series would’ve been difficult because the Pacers were playing so well in the playoffs. Even though the Bulls swept the season series similar to how NY did Indy, that would’ve been a battle. I use to say yes because back than I used to base things on how the regular season turned up but knowing that the RS only gives a you a brief glimpse, but it’s it not the determining factor in a 7 game series.
That "phantom call" is such as myth. Pippin clearly hit Davis on the follow thru. Anyone who's ever played ball knows that even if u hit on the follow thru its still a foul. NOT TO MENTION the bulls were already in the penalty. Dumb play by pippin but Davis still had to hit two clutch free throws which he did. Truth is, if kukoc doesn't bail the bulls out in game 3 (while pippin whined on the bench) the knicks would've won in 5 games. And the only reason why game 5 was as close as it was if u remember Derek harper got suspended for a stupid fight with jojo white. Not to mention the bulls still could've won game 7 which they lost by double digits.... KNICKS WON RIGHTFULLY.
