Love your reviews. Unique Melody jacked up the price on the Mest MK3 and justified it by adding a stiff, overpriced cable. Mest MK2 is a much better value purchase. It can be bought for hundreds cheaper. Used MK2 can be found at under 700 USD. It’s just not worth the upgrade in my opinion, unless you’ve got money to burn and need to have the latest and greatest.
Resale of used audio equipment is generally 50% MSRP, +/- adjusted for condition, rarity etc. Unless you buy in person, then this guideline isn’t as relevant. Regarding the post to which this is a reply: ANYTHING is better than the MKII’s cable; that thing is a stiff kinky nightmare. In what version of reality it is worth more than $50 let alone the $500 that cable is sold for I do not know or understand. But the MK3’s looks like it’s almost heavy enough to pull them out of your ears. Certainly not a cable I’d want to use regardless of how nice or light weight it might be. But he’s doing a very good job selling the MK3 over the MKII. If the soundstage is really that much better,… I’d at least consider selling my MKII and getting it. The MKII’s stage was very solid for its price but not particularly 3D/holographic, my 64 Audio Nio slightly out does it in that regard. They’re very close but I am of the opinion that the Nio is the slightly better of the two, at least with MX module. The only reason I kept the MKII and the Nio is the Nio’s don’t stay in place very well. But, after watching this review, I am tempted to get the MKIII, or, I would be if it wasn’t so much more expensive. I’m more than happy with the IEMs I have but I still want one that is properly 3D/holographic.
Can you help point me to a site where it's $700? Had Mest MK1 back in the day but later sold it for OG Monarch but honestly after hearing Monarch MKIII vs Mest MKII, Mest sounds so much more musical and remined me why i liked MEST back then.MKII had better seperation, stage and relaxed treble (ear gain area) yet still just as technical. So looking for a good deal on Mest MKII and that improved bone conduction module from MKII and above just works wonders via expanding the soundstage holographically.
being objective, if looking for a good value mest mk3 in the second-hand market, the mest indigo is the one to go for. treble not as reigned in as the mest mk3, slightly more bass, fuller mids, and a normal good cable that matches the IEM's aesthetics as well. if we are not moving up to the UM flagships, the Mest Indigo has always been widely acknowledge as better than the Mest mk2. the mest mk3 is just a variation of the mest indigo but indigo is cheaper now. (the faceplate of the indigo also looks nice unlike the scratch marks on the mk3).
Tried both Mest M2 and Mk3 at CanJam Sing. No contest Mk3 was the clear winner for me personally in terms of SQ. So much so that I did a second audition of the Mk3 to see if my first impression was right. Yes it was. Clearly more dynamic, more engaging, better tuning. Ears were not fooling me on a long and tiring audition day. But here is the kicker: It was the Mk3 prototype with the ceramic shells. No driver flex too. The ceramic shells were weighty and cool to the touch. So cool... What is going on here with the change to what is essentially a rehash of the the UM Indigo shell? C'mon you may be called Unique Melody, but your shell ain't no Unique Shell laddie. LOL.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Interesting to hear the possible change in the shell design for the MkIII. That ceramic shell would've been cool and could possibly influence the sound a little bit compared to the resin shell.
mk2 >>> vocals more recessed, which gives an illusion of a wider soundstage, sharper treble, has a bit more "bite" and "sparkle" mk3 >>> vocals a bit more forward, overall sound more "closed in", smoother treble, still great imaging
The design looked like Jurassic park claw mark. Thanks for the review, always cracking up on your puns.
Excellent video and reviews. Comprehensive and great close ups.
Thanks for watching!

Where can MKII be bought for 700 USD? I really I'm interested.

Entertaining review as always. What is this summit-fi? Are audiophiles coming up with more new terms to confuse and confound us normal mortals.
The terms shall never end my friend~ Welcome to the audio world 👹

Do. You prefer this over fatfreq maestro?
My MEST OG still sounded awesome with the special soundstage, just the bass still kindda less for my taste.
vs mk2?

mk3 >>> vocals a bit more forward, overall sound more "closed in", smoother treble, still great imaging
