So this has been so much discussion with people around here in Astoria. I thought that is was “fle-vel”, but then there have been others(my husband included that said it’s “FlA-vel”…when we were at the museum some of the people who worked there were also saying the FlA-vel way. If you do a google pronunciation it say “FlA-vel”. But I agree with you and the historical society. I’m not a historian, we just love living here and sharing this beautiful place.
