      When you said BVS laid a framework for fun things to come I spilled my coffee al over my keyboard and ruined it, im writing this from my laptop :(
      The only joke this movie had was buried in techno music and didnt even made any sense, it was just made for the trailer.
      Also we still love you, but I also hated the movie.

    But James Bond kills people. But The Phantom brands people. Yeah, they do, it's their thing. Those are characteristics of THOSE characters. Not of Batman. Those arguments are like saying "But Superman has superpowers. Batman should have superpowers too!" No, because that's not Batman. "Wonder woman has a lasso of truth! Why doesn't Superman have a lasso of truth?" Because he's Superman and that's Wonder Woman's thing. It's really not that difficult to keep track of these things.

    I always thought that batman not killing people was a huge part of his character and not comparable to a height difference between Hugh Jackman and Wolverine. a height difference is artistic licence, but killing people is part of your character, because it is what you do that defines you, no? Batman not killing people is what is supposed to separate him from just another random pyschopath.

    God damn. I am so tired of the argument "this is the movie we've been waiting for 50 years for". Yes, we've been waiting a long time for a good Batman vs Superman on the big screen. And we're still waiting for it. The amount of time we've been waiting has all of NO relevance to the quality of the movie.
    If you're saying "We've been waiting 50 years for this movie, so we'll take what we can get." then fine, but don't use this as a reason for why this movie is good!
    Besides, we have such AWESOME animated series and movies.

    John called Batman's no-kill rule a "small part of the character."

    • @xtmt1234
      @xtmt1234 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I'm sorry for replying to a month old comment but that has got to be the BEST analogy I've ever heard explaining why batman killing is such a big deal! It's exactly as ridiculous as punisher having a no kill rule!

    • @lupewalkerx
      @lupewalkerx 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a small part because he's always killed. Killing doesnt define Batman. The Punisher is a one-trick pony that brutally kills. No Kill Rule is a part of Nolan's Batman and is an inconsistent theme

    • @UltronThirtyTwo
      @UltronThirtyTwo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apart from non-canon elseworld titles like The Dark Knight Returns or Batman:Year One, every mainstream incarnation of Batman in the comics has had a no kill rule. Only time batman killed in the main comics is the starting of the series in 1930s but that doesn't count since the character was still being developed (Superman started out as a villain for christ's sake lol)
      So yes, Batman not killing IS a big part of his character.
      That's like saying Iron man being into tech is only a small part.

  • @ragingfiip

    Absolutely ridiculous that John and Marc didn't win Round 3. For every single argument Dan and Harley had against Gareth Evans, they had a completely legitimate rebuttal. And they all brought up solid points against Matthew Vaughn that I don't think Dan and Harley were able to completely refute.

  • @BornInsane0
    @BornInsane0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Round 1: Failure won. The other side literally said Batman delivered COMPLETELY ignoring Superman's development in the movie. A good batman is not enough to justify the movie Batman Vs Superman.

    • @Nah_joey
      @Nah_joey 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly. When all but one of the lead characters is severely under developed you have a failure. None of the characters felt like they had any real motivation for doing what they did.

    • @quadrall1421
      @quadrall1421 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +joseph robinson Batman had a really good motivation for doing this. He saw Batman as a threat after the End of Man of Steel. And Superman didnt wanted to fight, he wanted to convince that Luthor is a threat. But after he got weakend by kryptonite he was fighting for his life.

    • @BornInsane0
      @BornInsane0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quadrall Quadrall Yes, Batman's motivation was good. Superman's was weak as hell, they had the build up of Clark VS the Batman, Superman against Batman's ideology of killing criminals, ONLY to throw it all away when they made Lex force Superman to fight Batman so Superman's motivations played no part into fighting batman anyways. I'd rather Superman and Batman fight over their ideologies rather than forced from a Lex Luthor. Because when a fight is forced this way, the fight means LESS.
      Luthor's motivations were weak as well. Wtf, he knew Clark and Bruce's identity. He can attack their close friends, politically, economically but no. He chose the cheesy oh pit these two together because PLOT NEEDS IT. Lazy writing. What was the point of making Doomsday if he can't even control it? He would have died instantly after creating it if it weren't for superman. Lex is supposed to make smart convoluted plans which would have made the movie so good but no, they had to make him a dumbass joker like villain who does things for no reason.

    The way Luke Skywalker is described as "When the world was- when the Galaxy was in its most trouble, he took off for 20 years." at 49:47...it reminds me of the opening of Avatar.
    "When the world needed him most, he vanished."
    Also worth mentioning that Mark Hamill played the role of an evil-ruler-of-an-empire father who left his son with a severe injury in Avatar.

      He's a very clear speaker, but definitive Batman? That's Kevin Conroy. "This is Frank Miller's Batman"? Nope. Miller's Batman didn't kill. His tank used rubber bullets. He broke the Joker's neck to paralyze him, but not kill him out of desperation. He didn't even want to kill Superman, just teach him a lesson and use it as a rouse to fake his own death. Miller's Batman is incredibly motivated, knows exactly what he's doing and doesn't care if you hate him...but he's NOT mentally unstable.

They all agreed that Batman was mostly good, but I heard almost nothing to defend Superman in that argument. It's Batman vs Superman. If only Batman was good, that's only half a movie.

      I'm just gonna be honest. The movie wasnt that good. We have become spoiled with Marvel movies being action packed but at the same time fun and funny. The movie took itself wayyyy too serious. No comedy. No jokes. Just 2 and a half hours of means faces and bad attitudes. The story all over the place. And the movie was flat out made for the comic fan. So why get mad at casuals for not liking something that wasnt intended them in the place? Not everyone who went to see the movie read the comics. But dont tell a fanboy that. This comment alone might have someone literally go outside and punch out the first person they see lmao

    It was weird to me how on the ultimate trinity question, they didn't really talk about actually -solving- a problem, which was in a question. Team left's trio had a force of unstoppable evil and a mindless rage machine, both more likely to make problems than solve them. I was sad nobody looked at the question and addressed that obvious weakness.

Not to mention the pay off to all this pretentiousness is a dumb giant monster fight. No really crazy sacrifice, no reflective moment, just garbage. If you're going to make the other almost 2 hours of the movie somber and full of messages/try to convey the feeling of superman in the real world then don't make the finale so damn typical and uncharacteristic to the rest of the movie. It's like it didn't want me to have fun, and when it didn't want to make me think either.

    That "fun or failure" question was pretty much rigged against the "Failure" side from the word go, because it allowed the "Fun" side to essentially acknowledge 100% of the criticism of the film, then sidestep it. Even a bad movie can have "fun" moments in it, and it's a mighty feat for a movie to be a 100% total failure top to bottom.
    And to top it off, you allowed one side to sidestep the movie's faults, but then faulted Dan for acknowledging that there were any fun moments in the film. It was a stacked deck.

    What Dan should've mentioned is that the Avengers and Harry Potter were over 2 hours long, but they were well paced. BvS is a bit of a mess that goes for 2 and a half hours.
    Also, John is correct, The Raid 2 is one of the greatest actions movies to ever exist. It's a true masterpiece so if you get Gareth to direct Justice League, you are getting a masterfully directed film. He's probably not popular enough for a DC movie. Perhaps we will see him direct a Marvel flick soon.

    I have my own theory about an infamous scene in this film, its meaning and the film's failure in communication.
    If there's a 1% chance.... A Batman that kills would have still killed Supes. With that said the infamous Martha scene makes sense if the communication were better. When he says why did you say that name it has nothing to do with their mothers. He's referring to the dream within a dream sequence(s).
    How do you know about my dream. Is this another one of your powers?
    Theoretically in an alternate time he kills Superman. Just like in the film Supes comes back. In between that time Darkseid shows up. Lois has done something stupid to get herself killed & Clark wasn't there to save her. Combine all of this with the underlying theme of the world kind of giving him a hard time you get an evil Superman that works with Darkseid to take overt Earth. Lois telling him that's his mom clears up the confusion/paranoia. It also reminds him about what Flash said, "Lois is the key". Batman rushing to save Ma Kent isn't about mothers. It's about avoid a horrible future.

    All contestants made this a great episode but damn Andy's decisions were horrible! I think what bothers me the most is how rigged the first question is: Dan implied it so in his argument and what happened last year with the Jurassic World fight: OF COURSE BvS CAN BE CONSIDERED FUN, it doesn't mean that it didn't fail as a movie if analyzed fairly and considering most of the elements that make a film timeless...I'd be astonished if the movie wasn't fun, but I expected it to be GREAT, which it wasn't. It's no Batman&Robin but it doesn't mean it "succeeded"...even financially it's not looking very good and almost half of its audience are now doubtful of the next ones if Snyder keeps being at the helm.
    And even if such things can be considered an "opinion", Dad did bring out the most basic and objective (as possible) elements such as editing, story progression, how each character got very different treatment (Batman being the best by far, Superman being overshadowed, Wonder Woman being mostly fanservice). They didn't even get to talk about Luthor cause then it would've been too easy for the 2nd team.

    "The way they wrapped up the fight was--"
    "Affleck was THE definitive Batman!"
    "Artistically, this movie was shoddy."
    "But we got to see the trinity!"
    🙄😒
    I wish y'all would just admit that this movie was almost fatally flawed. Yes, Batfleck is great, and yes, you get to see a lot of your comic book wishes come to life, but it all happened in a really sloppy movie that was trying to be five movies at the same time. This movie had ADHD and didn't know what story it wanted to tell or what it wanted to be other than a DC comic movie. Playing Marvel catch up in one movie for real.

      Positive out weights the Negative atleast in my opinion. After seeing the movie a few times, the pacing is actually not as damaging as most would say, but because they're trying to tell so many stories in one movie you have editing that seems choppy and story telling that looks messy. I understood everything even as they jumped from scene to scene and it was jarring at first but the second viewing was waaay better

    • @daniej125
      @daniej125 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Richard Hanks I get why you feel that way and I respect it, but I think 10 viewings wouldn't change my mind. The scale of this movie and the talent attached deserved more than what it got. Its positives just serve to highlight its negatives and display the fact that they had such good stuff to work with and they just blew it all on questionable decisions and poor storytelling. It's almost sad, but much like the movie, it fails to inspire any real emotion in me besides disappointment at its failure to live up to its potential.

    +ScreenJunkies I love movie fights; I love how fun, lighthearted, and nerdy they are. But there are problems with the philosophy and logic of the show that almost make it unbearable to watch:
    (1)- Movie Fights is for the sake of the argument, it is not (or at least should not be) reflecting the actual personal views of the fighter. The fighter is debating on the show just for the purpose of having a debate, so the way I have always perceived the show is that it is an unspoken understanding that each fighter might not actually personally believe in what they are defending, they are simply finding ways to make the debate bot intelligent and fun.
    (2)- This goes along with #1, since we have the understanding that each person is not necessarily speaking their own personal beliefs, arguments should NOT carry over from round to round. Example: in round 1 if someone debates that the movie was a failure, once that round ends and the next one begins no one is allowed to use the opinions and arguments presented in that round as an argument later in the show. So when round 2 starts and they have to pick what their favorite part of the movie was, no fighter can make the argument: "well you said you didn't like the movie last round so how can you say that this part was the best part!". It is both a logical fallacy and makes for a weak and easy argument.
    (3)- When the round is over and the decision must be made by Andy (or whoever the judge may be) is not allowed to add an opinions to the debate. The judge can not say anything that adds or takes away from an argument, especially if it is a personal opinion. The judge has to clearly make their decision on who had the better argument presented, not about what movie they like better, not about who was funnier, not about who the judge personally agrees with, but who had the most tight, compact, and logically sound argument.
    Of course I understand the the point of this show is for fun and entertainment. But if the Screen Junkies team could implement these rules a little better, it would make for an overall much better show.

    Can I just say one of the things I enjoyed the most about the film, (and I think many will agree) Was the *SCORE* dear lord I loved it, seriously if your planning on watching it again, listen to the score, it is beautiful and gave individual characters their own scores, Wonder Womans theme when she's fighting is amazing, and so is Lex's and of course Superman's theme came back from Man of Steel that always makes me emotional...
    I love a lot of the marvel films but one thing they all lack is powerful scores, they are good at soundtracks, e.g. Iron man and Guardians of the Galaxy... But score they lack in, they don't give individual characters individual scores, whereas DC excel in that.

The score when Superman does is beautiful.... simply beautiful.
      I've made some very short film pieces with parts of the score, I find Zimmer's scores so poetic so to be able to try & tell a story with it is quite inspiring to say the least.👍

    Critics hate BvS because they don't like dark, brooding comicbook movies. That's why they also didn't like The Dark Knight trilogy by Nolan...oh wait..

    1:25:16 Val Kilmer was also Bob Kane's stated favorite actor for the role prior to his death. Said that Kilmer was the closest representation of how he imagined the character up to that date.

    Round 4 wasn't argued properly. the question was to pick a 3 to save the world they shouldve argued that not pic a 3 vs another 3. even in the 3v3 system it was flawed first luke beats jason and even if the hulk wins they said Dr M won so then Dr M beats hulk. that round was a bit of a mess

      +The Hell You Looking At? Every fight was based on DC, which is fine it's DC's month with it's new movie release, and people have always criticised Screen Junkies for being Marvel Orientated even though that's completely due to lack of DC movie content to discuss, through of this though, people will STILL continue to hate on Screen Junkies because of the fact that they, for the most part, agree that Batman V Superman, was not a great movie... Enjoyable sure, but not great.

    I can perfectly remember 2 moments when people threw the towel to an unbeatable answer to the question.
    1st when roger said that the best villain in the 90's was Hannibal Lecter
    2nd when they were asking the best poster tag line and someone's answer was the alien tag line: in space no one can hear you scream

    Andy I respect you as a Judge but seriously, this fight was one of your worst. You clearly weren't picking based off arguments. Comic Hulk is not Movie Hulk, you went for Jason because he can "out-live," Luke which has nothing to do with them fighting, and you in round 1 you choice "fun or failure," in a movie that has more than 70% audience score on most sites. Round 4 there was a legit call before another side even argued, then you gave them 45 seconds and didn't even let them talk at the time WHILE helping the opposite side with their argument. These were either bad calls or bad questions. Seriously, I'd recommend changing how you "base it on the arguments," and what questions you use.

    It would have been awesome if lex created bizarro instead of doomsday ,that way he could make him kill a bunch of people and cause a lot of destruction so that everyone thinks superman is evil.A better motivation for batman to want to kill superman and while we are at it they save doomsday for a proper death of superman film instead of waste him in this one.

    The arguments where they constantly compare people complaining about Batman doing something that seems out of character versus how other comic book characters or other characters in general act is weak. Of course no one complains about James Bond killing people, he has a license to kill that's the whole point. We are 4 years removed from the Dark Knight trilogy where it was constantly hammered home that Batman has one rule (no killing) so to suddenly see him mowing people down is jarring. When they compare Batman branding to the phantom branding that is also a weak argument and felt very out of place for Batman. However, I do understand that there are different interpretations of characters over the years and I have no problem with the Batman in BvS; the arguments they have chosen to use in defence hold no water.

    Neither of these teams were smart enough to bring up that Batman killing people ruins the ENTIRE UNIVERSE for one reason.
    If batman has no trouble with killing people, there is NO REASON for Joker to be alive in this universe. This Batman would put a bullet in his skull in a split-second. There will be no tension for Batman in this universe since his primary catch-22 of not killing his foes has been nullified from the get-go.

      I don't know how long Todd's been dead, and honestly, Snyder could wiggle out of that by saying "oh, batman went murderous later", but here's the thing. If batman gets a shot at the Joker, or any criminal in the future movies and he DOESN'T kill them, it makes no sense.

    • @starlitalpha7
      @starlitalpha7 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      KTK
      We know he hasn't killed the Joker because Joker is in Suicide Squad. However, you are right about one thing: if batman just offs the joker, the whole criticism falls apart. I'm willing to go all in though that there's no way possible that WB will off the joker.
      The joker is batman's main nemesis, and if the arkham series is any indication, WB's cash cow.

    So you turned a "Which trinity could save the world?"-question into a "Who would win in a fight? x3"-question... You didn't even just let it happen but actively turned it into that. It's nothing personal (how could it be), but you gotta step down as a Judge, Andy. You're really bad at this. It's incredibly annoying.

    Batman V Superman was The Phantom Menace
    Everyone who saw the start of the new Star Wars Prequel trillogy for the first time, when they came out of those theaters, they expressed nothing but good things. It was fun, the fights were cool, young Obi-Wan was great, stuff like that.
    Sound familiar? Kinda like how people coming out of Batman V Superman saying that it was a good movie because it was fun, the fights are cool and the Batman is great, stuff like that.
    Calling Batman V Superman a good movie is basically comparable to calling The Phantom Menace, and maybe even really any movie in the Prequel trilogy a good movie.
