I was a big Simon and Garfunkel fan when this came out in 1970. Bought it on 45 and played it on repeat on my record player, driving my sister to drink, or so she claimed.🙄😂
This song was inspired by the gospel song "Mary Don't You Weep" which is so perfect for this lovely Korean gospel singer.

This is the first performance I ever heard from the magnificent So Hyang and remains one of my very favorite, though her vocal box of tools seems to know no end in range, power,, dexterity, dynamics, and emotive conveyance. To me she is the most complete female voice I have heard in my life. Yes, this was written by Paul Simon and Simon And Garfunkel made it a huge hit in 1970. Her rendition of 'I Have Nothing' from the DMC Festival, her in a dark blue dress, is astounding as are many of her other Korean and English songs. Thanks for the great reaction!

The leaning forward thing is not about anything technical, it’s more about her interaction with the audience, she’s leaning towards them as if to say ‘do you hear what I’m saying’. There are singers that are technically amazing but their audience may as well be watching a robot, totally devoid of any emotion or any connection with the audience & their are singers who maybe don’t have the very best voices in the world but find a way to connect with their audience, but here we have the amazing Sohyang who imo is the best female vocalist on the planet & has a way of drawing you into her performance from the second she opens her mouth & emotes the song on a way that I haven’t heard before & she makes it look so easy, she never seems to struggle for notes & I have yet to hear her sing off-pitch, so so gifted, & beautiful & humble.
How lucky are we to live in the same era as this wonderful woman so we get to hear sing.

I don't really even know what to say when I hear Sohyang sing. I've never heard her equal, ever. I have never even heard anyone _like_ Sohyang. I think when she was recovering from her cancer surgery at age 20 and decided with determination that she was going to dedicate her life to singing for the dispossessed and needy, that God took notice of that and was so pleased He added extra musical and singing ability to her. (That is my personal explanation because there is no one else who could have given her such ability.) Like where did this woman come from? We often joke that she is an alien from outer space somewhere. But her abilities are so far above anything we have ever heard, we enter into a mental vacuum and grope around with no reference points. It is as if we are blinded by her _absolute mastery_ of all the vocal skills a human is capable of--and way beyond that as well. Anyway, Sohyang is simply dumbfounding and that is all there is to it. 🤷♂💖💖💖

@@B-Drags-Den You are welcome. These before and after videos let a person see what sort of individual Sohyang is while backstage. I rather enjoy seeing how much of herself she puts into these performances and how wiped out she is from the effort. She is no phony but the real deal and a true Super Star, whether English speaking and European audiences know of her or not. I count it a blessed day when I discovered Sohyang singing this very song back in the fall of 2018. And then Arirang Alone and finally The Power of Love from 2014. She literally reduced me to tears and an emotion ridden 61 year old wreck of a man after those three songs, so much so that my side hurt. And it kept hurting for days and days whenever I returned to these songs. What a journey you are in for my friend! 🤩🤩🤩

Rick, I subscribed when you found Sohyang for the first video. I am glad to join you for the trip through her world. You are pronouncing her name correctly for an English-speaker. Purists insist that we slip in the "h" sound slightly on front of 'yong', but just avoid 'YANG' or the like. 🤔 This performance was my introduction to this elegant lady, so it launched me into following her career. Keep going. She will never disappoint you. My suggestion for next: Sohyang "I Have Nothing" [I Am a Singer Legend].

Thank you for your rection to SoHyang. The pronunciation of the name is in this video in the beginning when the emcee announces her name. It's pronounce Soh Hyang (Make the H sound + Yah like Yahoo + ng). Perhaps this might interests you. I believe that she tried to portray Jesus on the cross to be the bridge over the troubled lives. That's why she stayed on the 1st verse only and kept repeating on "I will lay me." She whispered the last "I will lay me" right before the last note to make it personal to the listener and shout out the Jesus' agony on the cross. You Raise Me Up is another song that she made it a little more clear that God raises us up and for the performance, God literally raised her up because she was sick and the doctor told her to cancel the performance. The original composer of the song reached out to her and complimented her version because she made it clearer and closer to what he envisioned the song to be. Perhaps you should react to You Raise Me Up although I recommend mixing things up with Immortal Songs 2 (grandeur arrangements), Begin Again (Accoustic), Open Concerts (close to original versions), I Am a Singer 2 (some arrangements with band or orchestra - some of the top musicians' favorites are in Korean: Fate and Where Are You?) and Masked Singer (Hug Me, Breathe - both in Korean but top musicians' favorites and Mona Lisa for me and the rockers!!!). Looking forward to many more reactions to SoHyang
