I gave this one a shot. Instead of the grey or silver cord, I used purple, just to complete the rainbow. I couldn't find any 450 paracord anywhere so I used 425. This is one of those that is a bit of a pain. On these, you can't really stop and take a break or else the cords will come loose and it will fall apart. You have to keep going until you reach your desired length.

JD, how would you "back braid" or finish of the end to make it flat if you didnt want to leave the ends? Or even make a pointed end? Do you cover this in the new book?
continue the weave, then leave the outer strands out. it will end at a point
I bet that you could make a longer one, to use as a belt. It has the basic colors that would go with just about everything. It would make a great, "everyday", go-to belt.
Also, it would be a pretty sunhat band.

Steve Hills I believe you could add the buckles before doing the last weave and the square knot lock. Or, instead, on the loops of the square knot itself.

how much wood would it take to make a belt out of this design?
Well if you take the entire length of the key chain you should be able to multiply it until you get the length you want
Then just multiply the measurements of the strings
I'm sorry but how is this a round braid??
It's not. As far as I can see, at best you could call it a flat braid, but the strands aren't braided together, so its not even that. Now, it is attractive, don't get me wrong, but it is much closer in structure to the way that a hammock clew is created than a braid.
It because it uses the same idea as a standard four strand round braid, but extended along one axis.

It is called a woven mat or sword mat and shown in Ashley's Book of Knots as ABOK #2964 and #3819.
