    Hey Michael, thanks for this video mate! Really nicely done.
    The Raiz fees has increased since this video was made. The Saphire Portfolio for example now is $3.5 / month AND 0.275% ... shocker. That is very expensive.

    Hi,
    Found this link from a reddit thread on FIRE. Great explanations in nice simple terms for anyone looking to invest.
    Are there any pitfalls or complications for those that complete their own tax returns when it comes to tax time for any of these apps?
    You also mentioned (in replying to another comment) having to pay CGT if you cash out. More info on that would be great unless you already have a clip about that specifically?

    • @michael_ko
      @michael_ko  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general there isn't really any pitfalls with tax when using these apps - you'll just need to follow the standard rules like declaring/paying CGTs on any profits when you sell, remember if you have held for more than 12 months you can get a discount here!

  • @Miguel-wt5yw

    Hey this is a bit of a random question. But do you hold your investments in an individual, joint or trust?

    • @michael_ko
      @michael_ko  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. Currently I hold mine as an individual because it's the best for my current situation. However I think this would change if I was self-employed or had children who I could distribute funds via a trust to. A tax professional will be able to provide the best guidance here.

    • @Miguel-wt5yw
      @Miguel-wt5yw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right this is the same as me, one last question. Are you able to move from an individual to a trust fairly easy? Ps. Loving the channel!

    • @michael_ko
      @michael_ko  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's fairly easy to do but I know you have to pay capital gains when transferring assets to a trust, so definitely a bit of a downside there.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. I am just getting started and this was really helpful. I just have a question about what happens if, for example, I invested money in Spaceship but they become bankrupt or stop operating. I am a total beginner but just want to know what happens to my invested money if they go under or are sold? I hope this makes sense, I have no idea about investing!

      I recall reading in their documentation that the company is covered by some kind of insurance and you should be ok. Please look into it yourself though. I can't remember exactly where I found that specific piece of information.

    For someone who invests in $1k per month, 0.2% brokerage is not too bad… all other platforms charge more than this (inc account fee) …… Vanguard personal might be higher as portfolio gets bigger, and you don’t get HIN.

    Thanks for doing this vid! I'm planning to go with Vanguard personal investor because I'd be able to DCA more easily instead of having to save up to cover brokerage fees. Just wondering if you could share in greater detail the next steps after micro-investing. I'm worried if there would be complications as I know that VPI isnt CHESS sponsored so Im not sure if i'd be able to transfer assets out of the account when I want to close it. I'm not sure if Raiz/Spaceship/Commsec is the same as well

    • @michael_ko
      @michael_ko  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Glad you enjoyed it. That's a great question - so with any issuer sponsored share brokers (non-CHESS), it's still possible to transfer your holdings across to other brokers as long as the name on the account matches exactly. So with CommSec pocket/VPI this would be possible. However with Raiz/Spaceship, you're not holding the securities directly so there wouldn't be a way to transfer them and if you wanted to switch you would have to sell your holdings (and realise any capital gains).
